What if CD Projekt made a Fallout Game?

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Recently got a copy for Witcher 3 GOTY as a gift from my GF, the story is good, your choices do have impact, story phasing is excellent, top notch dialogue writing, the world space does make sense. Overall, it is miles ahead of Skyrim except mod support. And the engine is way better, I managed to squeezed more FPS in a heavily modded Witcher 3 (with E3FX, hi res texture.....etc installed) than a vanilla Skyrim or Newrim.... WTF!

So, as title, what if CD Projekt made a Fallout Game? In short, except without companion, no first person view, no guns, and less crafting, Witcher 3 has everything I enjoy in vanilla FNV. They have spiced enough favors into those side quest to make them feel different, at least in par with those companion quest in FNV.

The combat though, some old school table RPG veteran here may not like the more fluid maneuvers (AKA, how fast you are with your mouse), the technical rock-paper-and-scissors aspects, and lack of SPECIAL.

Compare with FNV, dialogue option is much limited and the world space is much less interactive. That's okay for vanilla game, but compare with FNV WITH MODS though..... well, less say I missed many quest mod, companion mods, and even adult mod in FNV/Skyrim (the especially the amorous adventure mod, my personal must have)..................

Overall, I think they can make a great Fallout game. Pity Bethesda would never make that happens.

1. CD Project RED is not favouring slam-dunk sequels
2. CD Project RED will likely secure the rights for themselves which Bethedsa cannot let happen

In a hypothetical scenario where Bethesda somehow loses the license and CDPR acquires it, I believe a lot of people would complain that the game they make wouldn't be "proper" Fallout. Bear in mind, I'm thinking about a Witcheresque open-world Fallout title.

I have little doubt that CDPR would be capable of writing a great game and designing a believable world, but when it comes to gameplay, their approach to open-world third-person ARPG is not something I can envision Fallout having and being...well, Fallout. Witcher is very combat focused, has no character creation, no basic stats, and has a skill tree which is mostly combat focused - none of which is compatible with Fallout.
They could make something akin to FNV, but that doesn't change the fact that it would be skills under the hood of what is essentially a third-person shooter...something like ME/Andromeda?

Would they make a better game than Bethesda? Most certainly.
Would it be a game that original Fallout fans have been waiting for? No.

Keep in mind that TW3 is, gameplay-wise, far closer to Skyrim than to original Fallout. Comparison between the two is valid because they share many similarities and one is clearly superior to other. That being said, CDPR's Fallout would be closer to FNV than anything else (at best), which certainly isn't a bad thing, but is still a far cry from originals.

But these are all assumptions.
We must no forget the fact that CDPR might not be able or even want to acquire Fallout IP. That wouldn't be cheap, and they are a team that has a philosophy of one big title at the time. If Cyberpunk turns out to be a successful title (and I hope and think it will be), they will probably do that for a while.

tl;dr
I hope CDPR does their thing and never gets involved with Fallout, because after all, that franchise is not worth saving and they could be spending their talent on something more constructive.

A new vegas esque game is the best we're ever going to get. There will *NEVER* be another isometric fallout game, ever.

Meanwhile, Dionis's team had the english translation for Fallout of Nevada 90% translated, Mutant Rising and Van Buren are still in development, and it is only the top of the iceberg.

They are more Fallout game than anything released by Beth. Unless you are a lawyer, the actual Fallout games currently released are isometric and made by the community.

Nailed it. Even 1.5's edgelord writing was better than what we got in Fallout 3/4

What CDPR does with Cyberpunk will tell you everything you need to know about a hypothetical Fallout game from them.

CDPR may be among the best storytellers and directors in game industry, but their game design sometimes can rival BETHESDA. They are masters of killing off what doesn't need fixing, axed in later games The Witcher 1's alchemy speaks for itself. Worthless sparse nothingness between quests on an open-world map too.

'Writing' is bad(of different spectrum but still on par), but the story modders tried to tell itself in 1.5 was actually decent, no need to be edgy yourself.

I don't see how stating the obvious is"edgy."

It's unofficial though which means they will be sloppy, and you will have to live with the fact it's not canon .

Amazing open world and great story yes, but they'd have to have a lot more player choice in gameplay. More stealth and talking down opponents, as with the latter it mainly boiled down to the axii skill.

So, about the world space, what if, a "semi open world" like witcher 3, which:
1. The world is "fragmented", like, instead of one big map in Mojave, it is broken-up into several medium sized maps (Vegas, Dam, Legion "country", ...etc) similar to Old world Blues

2. Items are mostly just decorations, so there will be much less junk to collect

3 Can't fast travel, at least it would be much more restricted.

4. The "roads" are semi-optimized for vehicles/riding (a.k.a, much less narrow tunnels or corridors)

Is that okay for you guys?

I feel as though CDPR have amazing in business decisions and consumer friendliness, but they fall flat on gameplay combat mechanics.

They have lovely animation quality though, and good dialogue.

Did they already removed Obsidian from the credits ?
I wonder.
Yesterday I had someone over at TTW Discord ask me for proof that FNV wasn't made by Bethesda, I am still not sure if it was a joke or a serious question.
