What game do you criticize the most, but keep coming back to?

Anyone else got that game that they will absolutely hate online, and point out every flaw it's got and regard it as the worst in it's series, but you keep sitting down and playing over and over? For me, it's Skyrim. I know, Skyrim is the third worst Elder Scrolls game in the series (luckily Arena and Blades are holding it up in 3rd).

But I really do enjoy creating a new Dragonborn and playing through. So much of it is poorly written radiant/main quests, but a lot of the side quests are absolutely to die for. Harkon and Ancano are such fantastic boss fights, the whole of the Dragonborn DLC is a love letter to Morrowind fans, and it's got so much replay value that Todd's managed to get away with releasing it 8 times now, without his entire company's fanbase going to play something else.

It sucks, but it sucks almost in a good way. What game makes you guys feel that way?

Metal Gear solid V: The Phantom Pain is one of the best games I've ever played. I fucking hate that game. The amount of story content that is either missing or happens offscreen is just... Insane. On top of mostly happening in the background the plot is so poorly structured that it wraps up, offscreen, hours after the climax. New characters are barely utilized and old ones are blatantly missing their iconic personality. Almost every side op is a copy paste of one you've done already and some main ops are like that too. All that said it's still one of the most satisfying and best stealth games to play.

I'm struggling to find a game. Fallout: New Vegas I guess.

No, I don't get that mentality. I can understand going back to it once to get all the content then leaving it behind only if you have to. New Vegas is pretty close though. I hate those types of a games with a passion now, but I am tempted to play New Vegas for another LP. At one point I hated playing Sunless Sea and Don't Starve because it stressed me out but then I got too good for that to matter.

Fallout 4 surprisingly.
I kinda hate it, but I find about 25% of it fun, and that 25% is very fun.

I could spend hours crafting, it's a shame that it's bogged down by having to hunt everything down.
I feel like if there was a way where you could get residents to be scouts, finding that junk, being trained as soldiers to protect other settlements and can just genuinely do stuff for you, the game would be a lot better.

Fonline servers with the possible exception of Ashes Of Phoenix.
Keep being frustrated with the same flaws over the years, and yet still addicted to it.

As much as I would like to contribute to this thread... I can't think of any game like that at all.

For me, I wish it was Bard's Tale 4—but it's not.

It's too early to tell, but it might be Prodigy Tactics; I don't know yet.

It used to be Skyrim, though seeing how I haven't even touched the game in well over a year after unlocking all 75 of its achievements, I gravitated towards Oblivion.

'Tis a shame I can't appreciate my first foray into the Elder Scrolls series because of how badly-designed it is. I still think The Elder Scrolls IV is an okay game, but it's definitely not as great as I thought it was when I first played it.

440 hours in Binding Of Isaac. I love it, but I hate it. God do I hate it, but it's also pretty damn good.

Gotta pile on the Skyrim here. I just finished a replay of Oblivion (mhm! I'm actually planning a replay of Morrowind once Tamriel Rebuilt is finally done, which should be - lets see, they're about half way done, they have been working on it since early 2000, sooo... 2050 sometime!), and I am *just* finished with that first cave where you use the golden claw. I aim for a draugr, and while the arrow flies, the draugr does a surprise random sideways slide across the floor, so my arrow hits air and wall. It turns around, runs to examine the arrow, I aim again, shoot, and the draugr randomly slides sideways again, and I curse loudly.

Crusader Kings 2

That game is a wonderful mess. I've been playing it for several years now, on and off, going from sessions where I had a lowly lord's dynasty eventually producing an immortal emperor of the known world, to sessions where my dynasty would die off after a single generation because of some pagan fuckery and stupidity.
There's so much content in it. So much weirdly implemented stuff. So much brilliance hidden behind some arbitrary choices and low percentages of events happening. Randomness a plenty, chaos everywhere, lack of logic, sense. At the same time, it is grandiose, epic, complex, fulfilling and (as weird as that may sound for a video game like this) very humbling.
Seeing an empire you've been building for past 400 years (dozens of in game hours) crumble within a span of a single character's lifetime because of several bad moves and plenty of bad luck is...well, it places your mind in a perspective which even reading detailed history books doesn't always manage to do.

It should be mentioned that I play Ironman mode exclusively, that is, no save and loading. With that, I imagine that the game becomes a breeze and loses a lot of its wickedly fucked-up charm.

I've quit and uninstalled CK2 more times than any other game, but obviously, I always reinstall and come back to it again.

Yeah, Fallout 4 can be fun if you ignore anything Bethesda made for it. Install Sim Settlements and other assorted mods and it's quite fun.

The weapon modding was pretty fun. I liked being in control of how my laser rifle worked, and it gave a decent reason to stick to your favorite weapon instead of dropping it for 2 points higher damage.

Install Sim Settlements

Sim Settlements never seemed that fun to me. I prefer setting everyone where I want them doing exactly what I want them to do. Also, immersion mods are more important than making settlers do their own shit, 4's lacking immersion imo
