F2 Proto Manager - adding frm file.

Use this: https://www.nma-fallout.com/resources/fallout-2-proto-manager.73/

Add the *.frm file to the correct *.lst file and it will show up in the tool. Or just use the BIS Mapper and assign the frm in there.

The critter.lst file in critter.dat is the only file I've found so far that has an obvious reference to the .frm files, but I haven't been able to figure out what the numbers stand for, and adding a new .frm file without those numbers doesn't appear to do anything on first try. A google and forum search have only produced this thread, so I'm not sure where to look for more specific info.

None of the tutorials in this list cover actually adding new .frm's to the critter.lst file:
https://falloutmods.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Fallout_2_tutorials_-_art
This tutorial mentions "updat[ing] the *.lst file", but gives no specifics as to what the extra numbers mean, nor which file or how to update, nor generally how:
https://falloutmods.fandom.com/wiki/How_To_Use_FOT_Critters_In_FO2

I've been through the mapper documentation and can't find anything detailing how to add new .frm's to a critter or an item, although I haven't yet tested librarian mode...and the Mapper Keys documentation stickied on this forum appears to be the only thing I've ever seen referencing how to set up and use this mode, but is very limited in it's descriptions. Is this mode what you're referring to?

Finally, I can't find anything explaining how to add .frm files to a non-critter proto, nor can I find any other .lst files that appear to reference .frm files except intrface.lst, and that one is definitely for the interface.

If you've got the time, would you please point me to any resources or documentation explaining how this process works? (even in Russian or German - google translate isn't perfect but it does help)

Check the .lst files in various subfolders under "art\" in master.dat.
For example, if you want to add a new FRM for weapon protos, you should put the file in art\inven\ and add the filename to inven.lst, then it should show up in Proto Manager.

Thank you!, that makes sense.
Too bad the DAT explorer doesn't have a search function, would have been a lot easier to find :/

Is there a list of .lst files and/or what they do out there on the interwebs somewhere?
Would be nice to have something mapped out...

so I take it nobody has made a list of .lst files?

I don't think such a list exists, since it's (mostly) pretty straight forward, and very rarely do u have misunderstood stuff, such as in your previous question about critter.lst.

IMO, you make a good point. Fallout modding is hard to get into, since most modern games' basic modding level requirements is totally amateur, having tools for every need. Fallout, on the other hand, requires a slightly higher level of abilities (and patience) to mod.

A lst.lst would be helpful for those just starting to mod, and can reduce frustration levels, meaning more modders in the long run. In fact, since I've seen your youtube channel err.. , I was hoping it will become the go-to channel for Fallout modding news and stuff:)

A list of .lst files sounds like a total waste. The .lst files are in the proto, script and arts folders. That should be enough to cover it for everyone. If it's not enough, I would question the competence to make a mod in the first place.

A list of .lst files sounds like a total waste.

There are 23 .lst files in the master.dat (scattered between sound, scripts, proto, and art folders) and 1 in critter.dat, each one seems to control a specific set of art, sound, and scripts for the engine. I'm not so sure it would be a waste to have a list noting what each one does, where it's located, and how it's formatted if there's something special about it. I wouldn't bother with a text file or anything, just a wiki entry somewhere.
Sort of like this:

I'll do what I can, but I gotta eat, and youtube gives me nothing :P

@Mr.Stalin,

In the critter list I see these 2 red lines that say BAD! What is this about?

This means that proto files have a corrupted file structure.
In this case, these two pro-files belong to the Fallout 1 format.

Ok, good, so its not MY files that are corrupt. Cause I thought my copy of F2 might have become corrupted.
