No Mutants Allowed

Why do you keep bringing up hentai like this is a sexual fantasy I'm having?
This is peak projection. I'm simply saying how the Japansese people view these scenarios, and you're going on about how tentacle monsters aren't going to gangbang Akechi or some shit. Like, yeah, I can tell the difference between Japan IRL and a fictitious Japan, but you're talkig aboutan imaginary western-coated Japan

Ryuji and the two gay dudes was even rewritten as Ryuji being a willing crossdresser. THAT is a case of not treating a character and sexuality surrounding them with respect, but Ann's close friends making tiny jabs that she never shuts down with any seriousness isn't.

Also, if Joker isn't gay, he isn't gay. Boys can be lithe and pretty without taking dick.
Yusuke still likes girls, he just has complete unawareness of it.
And Ryuji is hormonal, but busy taking care of his mum.

How do we determine a position of authority to be distasteful? What if one person is wealthy and the other isn't? What if it is the woman who is wealthy? Is it bad then? teacher/Student will likely be a bad idea in most cases but there are power imbalances in many relationships in life, romantic or otherwise. Doesn't mean they are defacto bad though.

The crossdressign thing was an alteration made on the english version of Royal. In the original it was still dragging him off to molest him and Joker jokingly shrugs about it. Also, Ann constantly gets into the typical sex jokes of anime throughout the game, even in strikers, which is common in anime but again, the games combines this with taking it dead serious at first.

You determine it by looking at the context and details of the situation. There are 0 instances of Kawakami using or abusing her position as Joker's homeroom teacher in exchange for romantic services. I wouldn't count her allowing you to sleep/read in class, as she gives you that before any kind of romantic entanglement is established. She has a history of giving leeway to students that need help.

In any Japanese high school a teacher dating a student would be an imediate firing and would be a scandal. Anime and fiction like the idea because of how taboo it is, and if Persona 5 had just had the option WITHOUT the first arc where they try to take it dead serious it would be a different thing entirely as far as consistency goes.

Ann is the assigned beauty of the Phantom Thieves. The boys in the group are clearly smitten by her looks, if nothing else. Morgana, Ryuji, Yusuke, and even Joker. They're all also good friends, and Ann doesn't hold any kind of legitimate distaste for her friends acknowledging her attractiveness. Instead, we have a guy online taking offense for her?

Like if for example Persona 4 had tried to make Rise's arc about the awful dark side of the idol industry and then did the rest of the game and sequels where the idol shit is played straight it woudl be dumb as fuck, but in that one they simply chose to ignore that whole aspect of the story and thus it's consistent.

You keep returning to the idea that the game doesn't take Kawakami/Joker serious because it's a romantic thing instead of a sexual expoitation thing like with Kamoshida/Ann/Shiho.
Is it because Sojiro gives you side-eyes and a smirk on valentine's day at the cafe when she shows up?
Or is it because after a point, her guilt to romance ratio switches ?

If I make a game about the horrors of war and then I include a MP mode with kill streaks it would be an example of this as well. It's all about how things fit thematically, and the Hashino games tend to shit the bed in that respect near constantly.

It's the fact that Atlus released a bunch of POV ovas with all the girl Slinks where the implication is that they fuck at the end about the game where the first arc is about how fucked up os for adults to sexualize minors lmao. Thematic Consistency.
Ayelander

The dark side of an idol industry?
Like how Ann finds out that nobody in the modeling industry is her friend, and that she will have to manipulate men to get what she wants? And is clearly uncomfortable with it, despite being comfortable with how good she looks?

The Trails games have student teacher romances as well, but those games don't make an entire arc about the awfulness of the situation before going on to just do it. It's the thing, consistency.
Ayelander
Ayelander
Moments of lowering the tension by making light of serious subjects =/= treating the subject with disrepsect. It can't be a constant misery party where everyone is living in a super serious hell, kinda like life. Y'know, the thing these games seek out to emulate.

Ann ends the Slink by stating admiration for the rival girl and intending to be the best model so...
And it's ok for those things to be in the game, but the first arc makes them all feel like a mess of inconsistent themes. Because it is. But it's a fun mess. One that tries to pretend it's sayong something deep.
Ayelander
Ayelander
Once again, Kamoshida's arc isn't about how evil a relationship between a teacher and a student is, its about how evil it is for a teacher to sexually abuse, beat and rape students.

You realise that there's a distinction between a romantic relationship where nothing remotely sexual happens, no matter how hard Joker wants to try, and Kamoshida raping Shiho to the point of attempted suicide?
Walpknut

Dude, we all know what happens at the end of Social links lmao. *fades to black*

The last arc in Royal is more consistent at handling it's themes, hopefully Persona 6 is more like it.
Ayelander
Ayelander
Yes, admiration for her. But not endorsement of her actions. She pretty clearly says she wants to do it legit.
The first arc is not inconsistent, its the tale of the Phantom Thieves coming into their own, and stopping a rapist that beats his students during class.
Friendly remarks and Ann being comfortable in her own skin isn't a spit in the face to that arc.
