No Mutants Allowed

So fucking true on that pandering. When I watched the fucking movie, I couldn't help but feel cheated by the terrible characters such as Rey and Fin, who apparently had a backstory on that trooper who rubbed his blood hand on his helmet which makes the movie even worse if you read it. Awful movie.

Finn's characterization makes no sense, the event that makes him desert is not his fellow troops gunning people down but one of his buddies dying on his arms, he then proceeds to remorselesly murder non combatants and fellow troopers once he becomes "a good guy" and most of his characterization is just being a bufoon.

I think a lot of people misread Finn's motivations. It's not morality for the massacre or his friend dying. It's HIM dying he's afraid of.
CT Phipps

Which, is unfortunate that the new Black main lead is the one motivated by cowardice until he finds the girl to motivate him.

If he is afraid of dying then why didn't he just shoot the civilians like his fellow troopers and why did he then got into a space fight by freeing the high profile prisoner? Why did he keep trying to get involved in conflict like when he tries to go to Rey's aid when he hasn't even meet her and why does he keep up the "I am with the alliance" Facade and escapes with Rey?

Finn's entire motivation is to escape, it's just he hooks up with idealistic Rebels who go TOWARD the fighting. Also, he's hot for Daughter Skywalker. He's not really a psychopath so he doesn't want to shoot villagers but even if he was, shooting means they shoot back.

Characterization is just terrible all around.
Let's also not forget the Phasma actress who insisted Phasma was a deep character that the audience "connected with because of her actions and her beliefs" but she doesn't even get an action scene before just getting thrown into a trash chute on a exploding planet.

Finn doesn't really have any chemistry with Rey (mostly because the actress is fucking terrible), he seems to be more in a gay thing with Poe. Poe even licked his lips while checking him out when they reunited. Speaking of which, where the fuck did he go and why did he just reappeared at the end?

Eh, Gwyndolen Christie has the obligation to talk her henchwoman character up even if she is just the Boba Fett. I do wish she'd been the "TRAITOR!" trooper with Finn. Give him an archenemy.

None of it makes fucking sense. Finn literally just lost his best buddy right before his eyes, his bumbling buffoon of a buddy reaching out and touching his helmet while he was killed in cold-blood by the very rebel he freed. To be fucking frank, I wouldn't be trying to help Poe. IN fact, I'd probably murder him on the spot.

Conscripts, for some reason, tend to have low morale. Albeit, I've done jokes about Finn being described as a disgruntled stormtrooper on a shooting spree.

Wait, that guy was his friend? Did they release like an extended cut or something? That's pretty important shit to cut out, then again maybe they cut it out because it wouldn't make sense for Finn to then free Poe and shoot at non combatants to help him escape.
Zerginfestor

They didn't add it in the movie, but it's in a backstory of Finn which is, YES, fucking canon. If you read it, it literally tosses the movie into the garbage can in the first fucking sequence. That's some Lucy quality shit right there.
That was his friend, and he befriended him because other stormtroopers made fun of him for being a buffoon and making mistakes.

Was this like in a comic or something? Are they hiding characterization behind tie ins? Man, Disney went full EA with Star Wars....

There's a book with three short stories talking about it. Finn's talks about how he was a perfect practice soldier but hates killing people and comes to hate his buddies for how much they love it. His friend was the only one who also felt that way.

Let me guess, the Cattle prod Storm Trooper is also explained in a tie in book...

He's one of Finn's "squad" that he grew up with. The only other survivor by the time of the battle.
CT Phipps

And yes, that's ridiculous. Why not just have Finn horrified by the massacre? Why not have Phasma want to kill him? Why make him a buffoon?

I probably like Kylo because he is so cringe worthy silly-evil. I still hope that he will getsome kind of meaningfull arch. I still would like to see HIM become the hero and Ren actually the 'evil' thing. But ... that won't happen, feminism and all that. Mary Sue becoming evil? The fuck no! That would be controversial.

Seems like everything remotely interesting is considered "controversial" now.
