14mm

First time out of the vault
Obviously, a 14mm round for an autoloading pistol is unprecedented, but any thoughts? Origins or properties? Stories to tell? Any fans of the SIG-Sauer 14mm Pistol among us? Any fans of the round itself? Should it be brought back, perhaps with some other weapons chambered for it? Anything?!?!

14mm= 0.5511811023628~ roughly .55 caliber.

I have seen a revolver that was made to take .577 cartridges (registered as a destructive device)

A .55 caliber revolver or pistol would not be impossible, the problem is that licensing required to own it would be more trouble than its worth to most people in the USA so sales would be very low thus nobody has made one yet.

I guess I really want to know two things: what is its backstory and do any players actually like it?

This is a very effective pistol against soft targets, especially with critical hits. Only the .223 is a better "normal" one handed weapon. I can't speak for F3 and FNV, I never played those games.

Is the thing about the 'destructive device' that bollocks from that senator who didn't know what the heck he was talking about, saying that a desert eagle was an anti tank weapon?

Can you really not own proper .50 BMG in the US?

I liked the 14mm. I was always sort of disappointed that I didn't get to use it longer before finding the .223 pistol.

I'll raise your .577 and see you with a .600 Nitro Express. I'm not sure but they seem like they'd break a wrist just trying to get it on target.

I do believe that they were intended for taking down things like elephants. I really don't see how something like this wouldn't be "sporting."

Sunny California is the only state that I'm aware of that won't let you have actual .50 BMG guns or ammunition. For no good reason, of course.

As far as the -game- goes, we wound up with the 12.7mm version, which is a .50 caliber type handgun. In that, we do have some real world analogs that are fairly well known, such as the .50AE Desert Eagle, or the .500 S&W.

I dunno, I like the 12.7mm we get in New Vegas (Lil' Devil is my gun of choice), but 14mm coming back wouldn't be bad, I don't think.

More so than the laser guns, I like the idea of what-if guns or alternate history guns in games like Fallout. The energy weapons are a nice touch. Just way too common.

Things like the 14mm pistol, or guns that were only ever made as prototypes in our world but are more commonplace in Fallout. Like the HK G11.

However, Bethesda's entries into the conceptual guns are just plain ridiculous.

I seriously want there to be a .79 anti-tank/materiel rifle in the next Fallout game, as long as we're talking about huge-ass bullets.

I would like to do away with 12.7mm entirely and completely forget it ever was in favor of 14mm. Get a new weapon for it, like a big game savanna rifle or something. It is European, right? I would still like more specifics there, The Vault has basically nothing. And what would the proper name of the 14mm pistol be anyway?

SIG-Sauer... What? "SIG-Sauer 14mm Pistol" is not a proper name like, say, "Colt 6520 10mm Pistol" or "Colt Rangemaster Hunting Rifle". It needs a cool, not-so-generic name.

It hasnt got one, it's just called the 14mm Sig. It's pointless trying to make up one as it hasn't got one, they might elaborate more in the Fallout Bible but I don't recall if they did.

In the case of the 10mm Colt it was taken from a comic called Hard Boiled and I am not 100% certain but the name was taken from the same comic.

I never understood people being "fans" of a particular ammo type, or hell, a gun. You are fans of insturments being built to murder people? I know we are talking about a videogame here and that's cool, but the OPs introduction got me a bit worried there. How can one ba a "fan" of a particular round?

Some people just are, I have a somewhat unhealthy fascination with Donner Kebabs... people are weird.

Well I know some, (like myself) like to shoot paper targets. Generally I am a revolver fan, but my .22 Buckmark is my fave gun.
