A silly, fast, easy request...

Makenshi

Ahoy, ye salty dogs!
Can anyone send me the proto file (or whatever it is) of the item 'Flare'? I'm editing stuff in cubik's editor and, for some weird strange reason, I can't lit flares anymore... the option to do it not even appears

And to avoid creating another topic, here goes 03 questions: are the item protos of Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 the same (the ones both games have, of course)? Placing these altered Fallout 2 protos I'm toying with into the Fallout 1 folder will work without problems? And lastly, is there any harm in just placing all 580 protos there, even thought some items don't even exist in Fallout 1 - aka, will the non-existing items cause crashes or just be ignored by the game?

About the question of the placing the protos in Fallout 1 I'm only sure about the following thing the proto files that not appears in the lst file (item.lst) won't be shown in the game they will not affect anything.
Sadly I don't know the answer for your other question if all items from Fallout 1 have a proto in Fallout 2.

The protos for Fallout 1 end with the Combat Shotgun...so anything after that is a Fallout 2 item. I don't see why you would have any problems with the Fallout 2 items in Fallout 1...use Cubik's item editor to check. I think the more unique story based items probably have a script attached to them somewhere in the game, but in Fallout 1 they would be just dead items. Cubik did mention how to edit the Fallout 1 items with his editor here somewhere on the modding threads - time to test that search button.

As for the flare proto - grab the un-dat software to open up the Fallout 2 master dat file.

Some advice - all modders need to have both the Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 dat files (master - critter) opened and easily accessible so you can explore the inner workings of both games. If you happen to mess up something in your mod you can easily replace the file..
