Adrenaline Vault Bethesda Podcast

Seriously, their design philosophy is fucking retarded.

"Listen to the problem, not the solution" is their rationale for ignoring everything the modding community achieves.

The amount of arrogance Emil spews is aggravating.

Hope a transcript of this podcast comes out. While I'm interested in hearing about their unique design philsophy (a mix between exec-u-speak and realpolitik) I can't stand their smug self righteous voices.

Emil:We have a game that allows us to stretch those different creative muscles

That's kind of strange, because i don't see any muscles being stretched.

Even if these guys had any creativity inside of them, it has drained away long ago because of ZeniMax squeezing their balls too tightly.

Pete:Nobody really knows the game like we know the game, or that sounds like a great and easy fix, except this what happens when we do that and we know cause we tried that, and it blew the game up

Sure you do, but for some reason ballancing mods for oblivion, like Francesco's and Oscuros, are among the most popular mods out there....

Emil:Designers should know how to write

I second that.

Pete:I'm not really a story whore

Pete:The one game that had the best story, that i was so into was Oblivion

Competence is really lacking in these guys.

I also love the part where Pete talks about his tolerance towards negative reviews with good arguments, that's just pure gold.....

Oblivion had a story? Oh wait, the fetch quests for that douche who killed the end boss I remember now.

Sounds like Pete just admitted that they can't do the things that the modders can... which explains a lot.

I am depressed. Seems like the future of gaming is churning out a subpar game, market it at full fucking price, then let the modders actually finish the job.

I always thought they ignored the modders because they were afraid of being 'shown-up'. They are terrible writers, programmers, and not creative at all.

And yes, they are terribly smug. Every post or comment I've put on their site has been taken down... except some of my forum messages. I know I'm an asshole, but there's nothing wrong with a little dissent.

Oblivion wasn't that great and the story was below sub-par. It was rather boring with no depth. These guys are way too full of themselves and they ruined the Fallout series with their poorly crafted entry, or as I've been calling it the Fallout Oblivion mod.

Wouldn't it be great if they went bankrupt and had to sell the Fallout IP to a company with actual talent?

Then party at my place!!

Yeah, srsly... If a company like Valve would get to do Fallout I'd probably regain my faith in humanity. Yeah, I know, so far they've been doing only FPSs, but the way they approach game development in general just never ceases to amaze me.

Apparently and unsurprisingly a pretty content-free interview which is more of small talk about games and the industry than a real interview. They apparently only asked two questions, the first of which was about whether or not mods were any inspiration (they claim no) and the second was about notes sections in the backs of instruction manuals. Apparently there was a poll on the BSGF and I'm proud to say that one of the two questions I snuck in, the AV thread with said questions is currently not working for me, was the second most popular.

OMIGOD. Valve??? Srsly...
Its Obsidian. The only one that could do justice to FO.

Perhaps, but Obsidian isn't doing that well right now.

Aliens: Crucible got put on hold for the time being with the likelihood its canceled anyway, and they really have to prove themselves with Alpha Protocol which really isn't my thing.

at least they didn't lie too much "we only listen to the problem" nails it, because they only listen to themselfs...

WOW!
 So Pete enjoys generic, unoriginal "SAVE TEH WURLD FRUM EVEEL DEEEEMANZ!1!1!" storylines.

It's funny how I can see TES V being developed using the same design philosophy that Oblivion had. It'll be bugged to all hell, it'll be shallow in gameplay compared to Morrowind, but the hardcore Bethsoft fans will defend it. Even if it turns out worse than Oblivion, they'll defend it fervently with common lines such as "It's not THAT bad!", or before it's released "Things will be different this time around!"

:whatever: Bethsoft used to be a decent company, what the fuck happened?

There's a good post on the history of Bethesda on the RPG Codex site but I can't remember the link.
In short the guys who made the company decent have pretty much all left or been fired by Zenimax, leaving the more money driven types to design the games instead.

They kicked out everyone that had talent or skills.
Thats what happened.
And now we have oblivion and fallout 3.
