Any *other* interesting RPGs

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Right I need a new RPG or something along those lines for my next game as my gaming is starting to become stale from FPSs and the sort. But for the RPG, i'm not looking for anything that stinks of witcher, dragon age, elder scrolls or fallout copy, I want something that has new elements in, something I can really sink my teeth into and think 'that was kinda good', so does anyone know of a particular RPG that would/could be like that. If it helps im using my PC.

Try out Mount and Blade Warband, with the Brytenwalda mod. It's set in the 7th century AD, on the British isles.

It's more of an action/strategy game than an RPG though.

Try DDO if you don't mind an MMO game, it's kind of fun.

Etherlords 2
Falcom's Ys series and Xanadu NEXT.

Maybe have a look at Alpha Protocol? While the gameplay is'nt exactly... flawless, the game itself has some excellent features and is quite fun.

If you don't mind old games, Dosbox and lots of text, you should try Ultima VII and Darklands.

Just go to Good ol Games. Try out Might and Magic VI - VIII or Ultima Underworld? Deus Ex Human Revolution is around the corner and what I've tried of it, it's eff'n good.

I liked the old school ness of the Drakensang games. IMO one of the few modern RPGS to get the old school CRPG feel right.

Hmm...

I've gone on this quest myself recently. My preconditions was that it had to be after 1997 and it couldn't be a heavy fantasy type. It seems that this kinda game (not a MMORPG) is rapidly joining the dodo club.

The only one that kinda fits the bill is Arcanum. Obligitary wiki link:

I do like the idea, though it is a little short on development. Not that it is buggy or anything, it just feels like it could contain more...of everything. I know that a few people here a fans of it. Worth checking out.

I just bought Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines and that's actually really good, despite it being broken on Steam and in need of serious patching (community ones to be precise, but no worries there's many).

There's also the KOTOR series, but I've only played the first one.

Old or new games?
As for old RPGs I'd suggest Planescape Torment and Arcanum.

The Steam version is patched to the latest official version(1.2).

Just install the Wesp patch (basic or plus version) choose your favourite resolution and play the game.

I've heard a lot of good about Bloodlines, Arcanum and Planescape Torment, having trouble on finding them in steam.

@alec: I'm up for old and new games, but I do generally have a disposition for newer games.

That's what I did, screwed up patching it though (i missed one and did the last one first) but it still works so I just said fuck it.

But definitely check it out
