There is a problem in the spacing when Metzger gives you the reward for the Slave Runs.

#Fucking good job.Stryfe.

There is no space after the comma when the characters name is mentioned.

So infestigate that. I tried the dark path and happened across this. Oh, being scum is so fun.

The guards outside the Ghost Farm run up to you, but they don't tell you to "surrender or die" unless you initiate dialogue, so unless you click one by accident or they box you in, you can just leave.

I found some "marauders" near I think Broken Hills, who have "Error" as a combat taunt. Also, killing a slave-owning caravan owner shouldn't lower your karma.

Something weird happened with Marcus in BH. After getting all his jobs, offering to find the missing people for free, fixing the mine, and declining Jacob's request for help with the jailbreak:

If I tell Marcus about the dead people, I get the rifle -- but he also locks up Jacob and gives the appropriate floating text. I don't get the 2500 XP, though. I have no options to tell him about anything, and he'll join my party.

If I tell him about Jacob's plan, he locks them up, and I get the 2500 XP. I can then tell him about the bodies, and get the rifle -- but even if I don't, he'll join my party.

Does telling Harold about delivering the economic data have any lasting effect on your standing with him? He seemed genial enough when I left dialogue and spoke with him again.

Do I have to deal with the Brain to get the best ending for Gecko? I can get the holodisk from Gordon without the talisman, and going through all those tunnels is a pain in the ass.

The shopkeepers in SF keep their cash (including what you trade them) in their personal inventory. This is just too good a temptation to resist -- FIX IT PLEASE

Nope.

Doing it just through Gordon works just fine.

I will look into the other issues you mentioned.

I have started a new game, and most things appear to work just fine. I did notice this:

When you get the Salvatore quest to extort Renesco, you can no longer get any sort of discount when you ask for it. I tested, and the prices are exactly the same as when I talked to him before mentioning the tribute. Exiting and re-entering the barter screen has no effect. Of course this means that the bug where you could get his entire inventory for free is fixed.

But at what price, I ask you...

at what price...

  I shall look into it.

Perhaps it is an error on my part. I try and test every single thing I fix thoroughly in game and in my head, but sometimes something slips.

killap: I can confirm the bug with Marcus and the quests.

I talked to the mutie-haters to the point that they hated me. I accepted the quest to find the missing people (for free) and found them. I made Francis turn himself in, and then told Marcus about the missing bodies. He gave me the rifle and locked up the mutie-haters.

Thing is, when I had the chance to tell Marcus about the missing bodies, I also had the chance to tell him about how Jacob was planning a jailbreak...even though I had no idea about the jailbreak beforehand! Also, after I had told Marcus about the bodies, I entered the jail, killed the guards and opened the cells. This gave me the XP for freeing the prisoners and they were transported to the back room of Jacob's house...but Jacob and Eileen were still standing in the open prison cell!

(Even stranger, me killing the mutie-haters after this jailbreak turned Marcus hostile. I'm doing him a favour and he miniguns me in the face?!?)

Also, telling Marcus about the bodies (and his subsequent lock-up of the mutie lovers) crossed out the quest to blow up the mine's air purifier.

Could you please give me step by step instructions to duplicate this? (It helps me pinpoint it MUCH easier)

Killap: I must say, great work on the patch and thank you. :D

I have been playing through the game using your latest patch A (as I have Fallout 2 1.0) and it's refreshing to see some of these bugs sqwached. I haven't been actively looking for bugs nor checking to see if your fixes are working as they should, but I have been taking note on the ones that I do encounter.

Minor bugs/typos:
- I can confirm that the 10mm pistol does NOT say "cylinder".
- I found a punctuation error in Tubby's dialogue when you ask why everyone is selling drugs. "Redding is another prime example of a town fueled by drugs.Damn miners...".

Major bugs:
-When I tell Harold that I got the electro-magnetoshphere regulator it exits the dialogue screen. Thus, when I further go tell Gordon that I did his quest, he talks to me as if I did not give McCLure his disk (which I did). In turn, the Brain does the same thing as Gordon, except picking any of his dialogue choices crashes the game.

To Killap: I downloaded your patch and continued on with my game. One thing, the world map is super slow, and the encounter rate is way too high. My comp is a p3 455. Does this patch have the encounter booster and if so how can I get rid of it. I get as many as 10 encounters on ONE square, it took me forever to from VC to Redding. Please help.

How I b0rked Marcus in 7 easy steps (or What to do in Broken Hills when bored):

Step 1: Upon entering Broken Hills, I talked to Marcus. I was only wearing my Vault Suit when I talked to Marcus, if that matters, but otherwise I was dressed up as a deranged bridgekeeper. We talked alot about ancient history, and then I agreed to talk to Zaius about the mine purifier, and help Marcus find the missing people for free.

Step 2: As it was daylight, I entered the prison. The warden wasn't pleased with me being there, but I ignored his words, stole his key and stashed it on Cassidy before talking to the prisoners. I preached open-mindedness for some xp and eventually told them I did not hate mutants. This lead to them ending conversation by screaming "mutie-lover!" at me.

(Oddly enough, I can talk to the prisoners again and they don't seem to mind too much that I am a mutie-lover. I did this several times out of curiosity.)

Step 3: I talk to the caravan boss and become an EEE. I talk to Doc Holliday and get patched up. I try to talk to the chemists, but they won't talk to no mutie-lover, so I just steal their stuff and move on. I talk to the ghoul bartender and tip him $20, thus finding out about the weapon stash. I grab the inflatable doll, retrieve the key from Cassidy's pockets, then I go over to the provisioner and tell her about the stash, thus making it mine. I ignore Francis altogether.

Step 4: I enter the eastern part of Broken Hills. I talk to the ghoul with the fly problem, Typhon, Seymour, Zaius and the worried spouse, agreeing to help all of them. I pickpocket the smart scorpion for all his stuff (including his tail!) and take the tests.

Step 5: I enter the mine and find Chuck Stodgers. I enter the underground tunnels, burn all the ants and find the bodies. I also find Francis's note to Zaius. I confront Zaius about the note, then rest for an hour and give Typhon the doll.

Step 6: I go over to the western side of town, pump myself full of drugs and beat Francis at arm-wrestling (in the first try!). Then I talk to him again and confront him about the note. He turns himself in.

Step 7: I talk to Marcus. When I choose the "I have something to tell you"-line, I can choose between telling him about the bodies, or the breakout from the prison. I choose the line about the bodies, and he gives me the scoped hunting rifle. Then I decided I wanted to tell him about the breakout, but it was gone as a dialog choice. I wander over to the prison and see that the chemists have been locked up.

So...that's it.

If I was to take a guess what's wrong, I would say it was the key to the prison. Simply having it in my inventory might have been the trigger to all this weirdness. Also, the order in which I did these things might be significant. The prison wardens were still alive during this.

Bugs discovered during this:

# Prisoners still want to talk to you after you have admitted to not hating mutants. The chemists don't want anything to do with you if your town reputation is positive. Shouldn't the prisoners behave the same way?

# You can steal the radscorpion's tail even if it's still alive. Must be a strap-on tail, then...

# During an encounter with a Unity patrol, I was blasted into bits by a Rocket Launcher. During the time which the combat controls were closing (because my character was dead) I could see a Vault Suit-wearing character standing in the exact same spot as I was before I got blown up. Sadly, the game ended, so no Second Coming for me.

For the time being, copy over the .exe from the official 1.02 patch and replace the one that comes with my patch. That should help significantly, but you may still have a ton of encounters. Let me know what happens.

I still need to rethink how I am going to approach this encounter issue. At the moment anyone with a computer less than 1Ghz will see significant slowdown in the world map - more than is enjoyable. It would be nice if I had something included that could auto-detect the speed of ones cpu and thus alter the setting accordingly. No idea how to go about that, however. I guess I will just have separate downloads for an .exe and users that are flying across the world map can download the improved .exe if need be.

@Unkillable Cat
Thanks for the instructions. 8)

@other bug posters
Thanks, they have been noted and are being fixed.

It´s a engine bug and it happens quite often.

I don't think there's any particular trigger, it's just how things are set up. Quoting my guide: "The next step is to tell Marcus about the bodies. You should put this off until you've done quests 4 and 5 though, because Marcus will put Jacob away if he hasn't already done so."

I would be more inclined to fix the "bug" that if you demand justice from Francis, you'll have to fight the whole town. When you press him and he attacks, he should switch to another team and his damage and kill procs shouldn't make you an enemy of Broken Hills for defending yourself. Still doubtful, as this is just one of many "doesn't make sense" things rather than an "obvious bug" thing.

# Prisoners still want to talk to you after you have admitted to not hating mutants. The chemists don't want anything to do with you if your town reputation is positive. Shouldn't the prisoners behave the same way?

Not really a bug, most people in the game don't remember most of what you talk to them about.

Bug the bugging buggers!

New Reno:

# In T-Ray's office in the Chop Shop, the lower shelves on the northeastern wall prefer staying on top of whatever comes near them. You referred to this before as a "graphical glitch".

# I can walk through some of T-Ray's desk.

Golgotha:

# When (un)covering the grave that contains Myron's stash, an extra message "That does nothing." appears in the message panel.

# Another trap that needs to be checked in regards to the Light Step perk is the trap on the grave you dig up in the Pretty Boy Floyd quest.

Misc:

# Whenever you enter a "tough" area with Marcus (Toxic Caves, for example), he'll say "Hope you brought some hip waders. We're about enter some serious shit." There's a "to" missing in there.

# Everytime I exit a "small" location and see the world map, I'm always located slightly to the southeast of the location itself.

# When you encounter a Prospector, looking at him just gives the word "Prospector". Wouldn't it be better that it read "You see a Prospector." like with just about every other critter in the game?

EDIT: Further info on a bug added.

-The advanced computer consoles description says that it is Brotherhood technology. While this is fine for Fallout 1, this line should be removed in Fallout 2.

Scenery/general graphical issue. Things like this are not really fixable.

This is not set off by stepping, so it's unclear why Light Step should help with it.

Thanks Killap. I downloaded the 1.02 US patch from interplay, the NMA link wasn't working for some reason. Extracted the files and copied the .exe(after backing up the one from your patch) to the fallout2 folder. Game runs good, speed and encounters are normal again. You should put these instructions in your read-me for other users. Note: extracted files to somewhere other that fallout2 folder for anyone else with this problem, didn't want to overright any other fallout2 file by accident.

Well, according to the perk description it "halves your chance of setting off a trap." So perhaps this would not pertain to just ground traps? The picture does show the Pipboy carefully *stepping* around traps though.

Hey! I stepped on that grave before taking on any quests in New Reno and I set off a trap!

While we're on the subject, more bugs:

NCR:

# The Geiger Counter in the shelf behind the NCR guard in the house on the Bazaar map is turned on. Could you replace it with a Geiger Counter that is turned off?

# Merk's guards disappeared on me. I entered the Bazaar map from the downtown map (at 12:40 PM), waited (rest until 1800) until Merk and his guards showed up (which they did), talked to Merk and got the quest to "take care of the Hubologist", and went and did that. When I returned back to the Bazaar map, the guards were nowhere to be seen.

Redding:

# In the outhouse behind the Malamute Saloon, you can walk through the bathtub.

# If I solve the Bar Brawl quest in a peaceful manner (no-one dies, and no-one goes to jail) and then go talk to Dangerous Dan McGrew about it, he'll say that I killed everyone in that bar brawl and gets pretty pissed at me.

# When Doc Johnson heals the group for $100, only 60$ can be found in his inventory, even though you paid him $100.
