Anybody miss the game over analogies from F01+F02?

Isn't it Ron Perlman? That's what I had always assumed, and I think that in the Bible Chris mentions something about Perlman being upset about how many death lines he had to record.

Ron Pearlman narrates the entire franchise, including the death scenes.

Anyway I hated them, just when you were thinking "ah crap, I didn't do so well"

The game says "Yeah your shit, try again bitch"

-.-

I definitely miss them. So well written and so fitting in the old games. They could do it quite well with this iteration of the series too, methinks, continuing on from the slow-mo death animation and making that fade into a slow skeleton-isation (?) of your character.

I especially loved fallout 2's quotes as they made what chosen one accomplished feel more powerful(specially since he can fail).

Your death has sealed the fate of everyone on earth...
The enclave triumphs.. releasing the FEV virus into the atmosphere..
Millions die.. And the earth falls silent again..

You fought valiantly but to no avail..
The enclave triumphs and soon.... The entire world dies...

Agreed. There was an epicness about the player character's achievements in FO2 which even surpassed FO1 in my opinion. FO2's writing in general was utterly amazing, and the intro sequence is still probably my favourite intro to any game, particularly with the ending line "...but the earth has not forgotten".

well I always considered the end of the vault dveller or choosen one as viable option :P

Same as becoming a super mutant. I think but I am not sure about this there was as well the idea to continue the game after you got diped as Supermutant even. Heh now that would have been awesome. As well like the "true" ending for junktown, you know the one where if you help Gizmo (the evieeeeeel guy) the Junktown will prosper in the end as Gizmo boosts trading while Killian is using some kind of terror regime in the name of justice or something like that.

That fucking ending still gives me the chills to watch. Something about the Vault Dwellers being stuck in the maze-like Vault with these hulking brutes, who may look comical in one way, but are pretty damn imposing in another way.
They really nailed that "invading monsters with no place to escape" feel.

Well for me the death scenes would last for 0.5 sec with no sound, sometimes i watch/hear the entire death scene...in any case, i think its fitting to the atmosphere of the game...its the post apocalypse damn it, not a day in Disney World...its supposed to be morbid :)

If anything, watching the Master ending from Fallout again really makes me miss the old school overseer rooms. So much cooler, IMO.

I have problems with my Fallout Trilogy - it won't play "you're dead" parts, nor the endings. It just takes about a second to flash on the screen, and then it's gone. I hate it.
In the end, I had to watch all of them on Youtube. Best endings ever.

Open up DXDiag (using the Run option in the Start Menu) and go to the sound tab. Turn off DirectSound hardware acceleration (move the slider all the way to the left). Try and watch them then.

Anyway, as for the topic of the thread: I thought they were a nice idea when I first played F1 and F2 but they soon got a bit annoying so I'd just skip through them. A thing that didn't bother me ages ago when I first played the games but really stuck out like a sore thumb when I replayed them the other day was how they have nothing to do with how you actually died.

If you get killed in a random encounter, fine - it makes sense. But if you're killed by a Super Mutant in the Military Base, why is your corpse suddenly in the desert? If you're blown to pieces, why is your skeleton whole? They should have had at least a few variations, based on common ways to die and the major locations.

It works perfectly now!
Thanks a bunch, Export!
No problem! Actually, it was someone on GOG who told me about fixing it that way, and they got their info from NMA, so it's gone round in a big circle.

It's interesting that a lot of games had these in the past, but today you don't see much anymore.

Like it's a crime telling people that they committed an error and obviously failed at the task.

John Carlin anyone?

A giant chair with dual miniguns is too awesome for modern games.

Also I just noticed the the animations used in the ending, like the running vault dwellers, are the same ones used ingame.

It's even the same critters. :p

There we can also see that super mutants are able to run!
