are you okay with ugly characters?

No, they don't have to be attractive, but the lead character often times will be unless there is story justification for them not to be - like Darkman to use a movie as an example. I made a hideous character in New Vegas and roleplayed him that way...put a mask on him and everything. Pretty fun actually.

I ain't gotta save no ugly woman only the pretty ones and I will expect sex out of them or I will hentai them. Don't care if the girl is 18 or virgin, if I help she gotta help me cope with crippling depression and extreme obesity.

I am glad when i see ugly characters, especially if they are the lead, in any kind of medium.
This makes fiction closer to reality, on one hand, and emphasis of the subtle discrimination at work in most media. It isn't just about gender or race or religion. The media, mostly mainstream, but also seen in other productions, tend to have an extremely narrow view of what the protagonist and other characters should be, and those habit tend to stick way too much.

Article: Why the hawl do they hire thos models if they make a fairly ugly normal person's face?

Now as in general, bring them on. Not much to say, really. The looks can be an aspect of the character or even just flavor. To make a SJW point? Eh...
Also, aren't a lot of TW3 characters ugly as hell? Are they sexist by having some fiine men and women?

The pictures they got of the woman who was the model is also in rather heavy make-up. Take that away and... Well.. Would that leave us with ME:A's face?

I like pretty characters, male and female.

Sadly, the video game character I most look like is Barry Burton.

Yes. I am not only ok with them, I think we should encourage it.

This whole idea that any form of media is made up of purely attractive people is utterly unrealistic. Every group of people is going to have a group of people of different sizes and appearances.

Any media, whether a TV Show/Film/Game that has only conventionally attractive characters feels somewhat-immersion breaking for me. It feels like the characters were hairbrushed to give a glamorous view of the setting, rather than actually being realistic.

What counts as attractive or not? I mean I have my preferences on whats ugly and whats not, while other people have others. I think I've fought my friends over what girl is prettiest, when both of them technically is.

Now, there should be no creation of ugly or attractive characters just for the sake of balance, rather than actually create a character appearance that fits that certain character.

Having all attractive characters destroys immersion completely: if suddenly the 'nerdy girl' is a hottie. (Not saying she can't be, but video games are all build on cliches), literally any character has an appearance that matches their personality, unless it's some plot twist of some kind.

Realistically ugly is fine, but unrealisticly ugly (as in the Ass Effect trailers) is just annoying. Unless it's on purpose and artfully done, obviously.

I don't mind ugly characters, no. Now granted, I don't think that every single character should be ugly in a situation unless there's a reason for them to be that way. The same could go for the other side, not everyone should be so beautiful that they would put real life models to shame. More within the average would be nice. People who have a flaw or two here and there that aren't distracting, or are pretty in a way that it isn't the first thing you think about when you see them.

appearance that matches their personality
Depends what you mean by this.

If you mean quite literally, appearance reflects personality(As in villains having a naturally sinister look to them, or heroes appearing conventionally attractive), then no.

If you mean there appearance reflects there lifestyles(For example, characters who are in active roles are far more muscular) then yes.

The second one.

I don't care either way.
I don't think we should gloat about the idea, at the same time, I don't think we should demote it either.

We should just go "Well... doesn't that character look... okay?"

I actually don't have an issue with how the new Mass Effect looks, also, I don't get the issue of people saying "It's gone too SJW!!!"

Personally, people like that just cry foul over the most random and stupid points.
I get it, some people at Bioware are crazy, I actually finished a script on it earlier and will be recording a Video today... but believe me the most vocal people have no say in the game what so ever.

As for genially ugly characters... again... meh.

There are beautiful people and there are average people.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway.

Like those damn Daggerfall titties... they get me hotter than Conan Exile any day.

As long as the ugliness is an active aesthetic choice and not from incompetence I am pretty okay with it.

What the hell does attractive mean here? Subjective perception of human looks is...subjective. The girl I find beautiful is not the same girl my buddy will find beautiful. Or maybe he will. It's subjective.

If the character is made unattractive but natural, I'm fine. If it's a weird uncanny valley that's forced by devs for whatever reason such as in MEA trailer - fuck that.
Same goes for attractive characters - if it's done naturally, good. If it's forced with every character being a walking deity of sex - fuck that.

Those who wants to make a realistic face/"face that make sense" for their character should have a look those face reading thing:
You don't make an idiot/imbecile character to have a wise face with philosopher forehead (unless he is pretending or he has brain damage) or a "clever ice queen" with a face of a slutty porn star

Or some 15 years old girl that looks too sexy too hot (I am taking about you, MGS....)

If designer need any "evil/criminal" face, go visit those police most wanted and you have plenty.
Have a look those politicians, you have plenty of faces from assholes, liar, self-centered idiots to idealistic extremists
And of coz, those beauty contest have plenty of hot chicks every year

Ugly characters um maybe but not say to reflect certain values. Game maker is politicaly x and makes all npcs who share different political views ugly. But what I would like is maybe say less symertical looking pc and npc. Also as a southern europeon looking guy we need more variety in noses. I'd like to see more body types (no not just more full figured body types) petite, tall and lanky; short people with long arms y'know the variety we see in life.
