AR's or FN FAL's?

Still Mildly Glowing
If you had a choice between the Fallout Assault Rifle or the Fallout 2 FN FAL which one would you pick? - If the FN FAL was only semi auto and not full auto?

You can only pick one and you already have a shotgun and a magnum.

I wont lie, I am basically pimping my fan fic. How ever I am also curious as to what others, who are not reading the fan fic, would choose.

"true cult", i suppose. (has nothing to do with the actual gun, which is a ripoff of an old AR10 and an AK).

as for which gun? the FN FAL obviously. it's select-fire and packs a greater punch. as recently illustrated in Iraq, you don't want no sissy .223 / 5.56mm round when fighting in the desert wasteland.

the G11 is a decent assault weapon, far ahead of it's time, but the ammo makes it unviable.

What I would do is take the FN FAL first, and then go to a weapon shop and haggle myself a real gun, like the 10mm SMG, or perhaps the HK P90c, by selling all my other guns. And then go and burst some people. :)

Well, the FN FAL is effective and all for long range, but I think the Assault Rifle is just way cooler. Especially with an extended mag, it seems like you can just burst for eternity.

I never really liked either of them, I found it much more effective and ammo efficient to just target the eyes/head with assault rifles instead of using burst, which is what the P90 is for :) Hard decision but I'd say the Fal because it's a BETTER GUN.

Someday I want to buy a Fal from DSArms for around $1200 (the 16in. barrel version with carbine-length gas system).

The AK-112 as the FN FAL never existed in the Fallout world.

In real life though I'd go with FN FAL and lots of cash to pay medics for setting my arm back in it's place ;)

the FAL's kick aint that bad, not even with shortened barrel (shorter barrel = more recoil). still, the .308 aint no pussy round, so expect to be kicked a lil'.

In the real world FN FAL was superior to the AK's, M-14's and AR-15/M-16's when it first came out. It was DESIGNED after AK 47 and was specifically designed for the rifle cartridge blah blah blah. Because of its cost, FN FAL was used by the palace guard elite forces in various little juntas around the world, but it's a great gun, on par with an M-14 but more ergonomic!

And the fact that It could fire through a 6 inch railroad tie at 0.5 km made it somewhat desireable. But in all honesty its not to practical compaired to an AK, since the damn thing is so heavy, and way to finicy. Still makes up for it in sheer power though.

Dude, it's not much heavier than an M-14 or a .50 Caliber sniper rifle. US Navy SEALS are trained to carry and fire belt fed M-60 MG's on the run as their squad automatic weapons. It's a question of training and fitness. As to finickiness, know what happens to am M-16 after you drop it in the sand? Guess...

I dont know what series of FN you worked with, but the ones the canadian military used were designated the FN-C1, which weighed about 30 pounds, was mostly made out of heavy wood, and needed to have the firing pin regularily disassembled since it could take only so much gunpowdered getting rammed into itself. As in, after maybe 100-200 shots, the chances of it jamming were through the roof. The C-7's we use now are much lighter and, as it is, much more resilliant. IE: Dragging through sand, submerging in water, running over it, firing it a second time after a bullet has lodged in the barrel in order to clear it without fear of the barrel failing and exploding on you. And The navy seals cant be compaired to standard military grunts. SEALs and the guys in JTF2 are a more accurate compairison. Also it really would help if you had a brain, since I feal dirtied in the fact im arguing with you, Also One would think the M-16 doesnt have the sand problem anymore, as it and the C-7 are basicaly the same firearm.

The FN FAL would be my choice, as it devastated enemies in F2. Too bad I erased my old save files with it in my inventory...
