Ash or Goo?

I asked this on Reddit so I thought I might as well ask it here.

When you crit with a laser weapon your enemy is reduced to a pile of ash. With a plasma weapon its goo.

Which do you prefer?

Goo is cool, but I am leaning towards ash because if you kill a really hated enemy, you can sweep up the ash and keep it in a jar, which could go on the mantelpiece or something. That's not really possible with goo.

I usually use energy weapons in my playthroughs so I tend to gooify those who arent really priority kills (eg raiders geckos etc) and ashify those who are for that reason.

I like to imagine my courier has loads of jars lined up in his home with names written on them, y'know, Lanius, Caesar, Benny etc.

I prefer the slicing animations of the lasers in Fallout 1/2. Simply because it is more gore'y (gory? cory) cory in the house?). The old plasma animations are also pretty fucking sweet but there's just something about that clean slice that splits someone in half. Plasma death? You'll be in excruciating pain for but a moment before you lose your mind as your brain has dissolved. But being cut in half by a laser? You'll survive that, for a while, and witness how there is probably no way to save your ass and you're going to slowly die of bloodloss.

If I have to pick out of nu-Fallout ash and goo though? I guess goo. Even if that animation is kind of shoddily done.

You might be able to put the goo in a jar as well as ashes. It'd just be a lot harder to do. You'd need like a scoop or something.

I guess I prefer gooifying enemies. Turning human beings into a glowing liquid is alright by me.

I can't say I've thought about it before. Goo I suppose.

Anyone else find it weird that when someone ashes/goos you can still loot their clothes?

I don't use energy weapons. I prefer my enemies beaten to a lifeless pulp by my own fists, or when I feel edgy I like them sliced and diced by a nice blade.
(got that? edgy? Ahahahaha... ah... ah... ok it sucks... *cries*)

*ba dum tss*

I personally prefer the classic's animation of turning to goo.

But then I'm not sure if we had a proper animation of stuff/living beings turning into ashes.

The goo animation is undeniably better in 1&2. Because they do t dissolve into a puddle of green goop. Their flesh liquefies and falls from their bones Into a puddle of what I can guess only be described as bio-mass.

For myself I must admit that the classic titles has more flare with their ash/goo animations. Even with the limited pixels players could witness the horror that is to be hit with such a fierce weapon.

The newer titles lack the same pizaz the classics had.

Yeah, just check out the Lieutenant's death.

I actually prefer ashes to goo, myself. While it isn't actually shown in any of the Fallout games, the thought of killing an enemy and leaving them to just blow away in the wind feels more Fallout appropriate than liquefying them. They vanish, disappear without so much as a marker to show that there were once there. Only you know what happened, and chances are you just walked through the remains as you passed.

It's less gory then what Fallout 1/2 portrays with the liquefying, but it's far more absolute. The entire world was bathed in fire in the moments of the Great War; the New World is already being built on the ashes of those that came before, what difference will a little more make?

I still don't get why Bethesda decided to allow laser weapons to turn someone to ashes, it was pulse weapons shtick :/ Anyway I prefer gooifying my enemies.

Bullet-pierced > Ash > Goo

Unless it's alien, you're cutting it half with trusty laser rifle.
Animations of critters being electrocuted with pulse guns are great too.
