Astral projection

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Astral projection, or out of body experiences. Has anyone here experienced this? I've done a lot of research on the subject and its pretty fascinating. Let me know in the comments

There's two possibilities regarding astral projection:
1. It's real. Astral projection is a phenomenon that cannot be explained with established physics. Still, there must be some rules in there (or absolutely everything we know is wrong). That means that there is a whole new branch of physics that is very much incompatible with known physics.

2. It's not real. The phenomena can be explained by normal means like hallucinations und subconsciousness and so on.

One can invoke Occam's Razor right there and come to the conclusion that astral projection is highly unlikely.

Does the sensation of dying constitute astral? I got swept into a river following the huge 2011 super tornado outbreak after deluge's of rain for a week straight. Got caught in brush in the river, almost like a mangrove of debris and lodged sticks, and drowned. My buddy pulled me out after i lost consciousness. Lungs hurt, then it stopped, felt warm like i was taking a nap, "It was a good run" thought when through my mind, and blacked out. Honestly thought i was dying. But i definately felt like i was leaving my body, even if it was just for moment before the plug was pulled.

Yeah, I would count it. If im not mistaken, it's all pretty linked (near death experience and OBE's)

But i'd like to make the point, i wasn't like looking down at me trapped in the bullshit or anything. i've knocked out dozens of times in my life (a dozen to fighting, probably six to skateboarding, another 3 or 4 to choke out {mma training}, 1 car accident) but this was a different loss of consciousness. This was a grim, oh fuck this is it, no life flash.. and a weird mindset i've never had.

there was no struggle. I was so exhausted from fumbling with the shit catching around my legs and the torrential river that was boogeying. Water straight up beat my ass. I accepted that i dying in about 2 seconds, got a weird feeling that it was okay and went out man. gives me chills reliving it.

and that's why physicists always get the party pooper award.

Also, never ever ask a physicist "hey! Do you think we can ever fly to the stars?". It might break your Sci-Fi heart.

Also, astral projections. Lulz!

I don't know if real astral projection is possible but you can trick your mind into a pseudo outer body experience.

Take some melatonin before bedtime and you might increase the chance of experiencing a lucid dream. It's available at most pharmacies within the US.

You can also try meditation but it takes lots of practice.

Floating in a Sensory Deprivation Tank (Like that Simpsons episode) might also get you there but it's a bit pricey (around $85/Hr).

^Tons of sense-making there.

I don't like being harsh about these things, but what is more likely - that a select few humans have a sort of golden ticket to supernatural stuff (while our species is at the same time known for being able to imagine, pretend, hallucinate, misunderstand, misenteprate, lie, cheat, self-delude, etc.), or that someone has made - even an honest - mistake.

I'm not gonna say no or never, because that is wrong too. But I'm gonna say very unlikely.

And yes, I've had some woozy strange-y out-of-body-y experience. Most of those experiences resulted from a lot of prior stress, or some other kind of negative experience.

When i improvise on my piano in the dark, with my eyes closed, i feel like my body is falling down into a deep valley, but my mind is still up there. It's an interesting feeling, though nothing mystical about it.

I also get sleep paralyzation sometimes, it's when i semi-wakeup but am still paralyzed and cannot move anything in my body. I see my room, yet my eyes are closed. Others often halucinate too, which is even more scary, because the feeling of paralyzation is bad enough to scare the shit out of you without seeing some strange figures. I think this is where those alien stories come from.

Don't pretend your opinion to be the ultimate truth, too ;)

That too. Although I don't quite understand what this has to do with astral projection.

people believing in such stuff are usually not open to logical arguments.

Because yeah, one has to "accept" that it exists. Kinda.

In my experience "Astral Projection" is just a mystical/religious name for lucid dreaming. Once you understand how lucid dreaming works and train yourself to do it (I can, it's fairly easy), you realize that there's nothing special about AP. You aren't going to see anything new, it's all just a construct of your dreaming mind. It is very cool, however; and I do recommend people try it.

Those who claim AP is anything but lucid dreaming are right up there with the sham psychics like John Edwards, Uri Geller, or that disgusting bitch Slyvia Browne (The cunt who told Amanda Berry's mother her daughter was dead).

I'm curious about lucid dreaming. I don't know if I've ever experienced it. I've had many dreams where I know I'm dreaming, but it rarely works to my benefit, and often my knowledge blurs into ignorance anyway, like, I'll make flawed logical thoughts - such as "I know I'm dreaming, therefore I can still keep all this dream-money!"

Had I really been concious, I wouldn't have been that stupid :I

Other times I seem vaguely aware I'm in an unreal place, and those rare times I actually can take advantage of it, to the degree of wishing awesome landscapes to envelop me, and fly around, but these are so rare I can count them on one hand. And like I said, the "true" conciousness-level there is very vague.

I'm with you on that one. I've experienced it a few times myself, even had a period when I was younger where it happened regularly. Every time it happens I'm almost certain someone else is in the room, sometimes I feel like people are standing beside the bed looking down on me. It was scary as fuck at first (well, it still is but nowadays I know right away what's going on, but there's still a sense of panic) and being interested in UFO/EBE-phenomena, that's exactly where my mind goes every time. I'm convinced a vast majority of alien abduction stories can be traced back to sleep paralyzis.

I'm gonna do the majority of ya'll a huge favour and write that, yes, astral projections are really happening to people out there.

I will do ya'll an even bigger favour by stating that these astral projections are definite proof that there is much, much, much more to life than meets the eye.

And finally I'll bring a smile to everyone's face by claiming that astral projections (which I have already acknowledged as being real experiences some folks have) are the handiwork of an omnipotent god. This god (who goes by a variety of names of which God and Allah and Jahweh are the most common) self-evidently 'creates' these astral projections to award pure, good souls. These good souls consist of all 7 billion homo sapiens now alive with one remarkable exception: me.

So, no: I have not yet had an astral projection myself, but how would this lack of experience withhold me from stating that they must be very real nevertheless?

On much the same grounds, I cannot but accept the existence of angels, fairies, dwarves, giants, unicorns, reincarnation, heaven, hell, aliens, flying saucers, bigfoot, ...

Heh.

That's your brain shutting down due to oxygen deprivation and water in your lungs. Read up on drowning mechanisms.
