Looks like an interesting game. However, there are not really that many informations out yet - I think?. It looks like it will take a lot of inspiration from Bioschock.

All I can think about when I look at it is "lolsorandom".
I have no idea what the hell I'm looking at and the more I see the less sense it makes to me.
And when it comes to some of the technical stuff and graphical fidelity it just looks like a glorified tech demo.

Not trying to be overly negative or anything. I've actually worked on being less negative as of the past 2 years.
But this? I just don't see what there is to be excited about.

Just looks like random shit thrown together for the sake of randomness sake.
And the tech demo aspect? Just go to the part of the video where he goes over the mirrors and you'll see what I mean.

Look, a ghoul in Fallout has a reason for being a ghoul. They're a part of the world and the world reacts strongly to their presence in it.
What is the reason for the bloodvein monster?
Or the Donnie Darko rip-off floating streams?
Or the big jolly fat robot break-dancing?

Maybe there is context for all of it and it all makes sense in the story but it just seems like they're desperate too show off anything that might hook a player.

So yeah I'm not interested. I remember the last time there was a trailer for this and I felt the same way.

It's actually pretty interesting, because now we have some sort of Bioshock/USSR
hybrid on the way. I wonder how it will play out.

The point of this is to
capture the viewer's attention as it showed them a world in an alternate timeline, where mostly everything (machines for example) ran amok by someone or something for a good reason. Also it was brief, so no spoilers or anything.(THANK GOD!)
Just like Bioshock's trailer, it drags you into an underwater utopian city where everything changed from a paradise to perdition. Plus, the iconic Big Daddies and Little Sisters remained a mystery, because they kept the world brief enough so that gamers can buy the game to find out by immersing themselves into the world itself.
At least I'm a bit more optimistic rather than being skeptical/cynical, because sometimes it can't be that healthy to the mentality of such a fragile mind we all possessed from the day we are born until the day our bodies no longer function with our minds and souls.

I found Bioshock far more consistent in its setting than this, even judging by its trailer from back in the day.
And I'm not being cynical or even necessarily skeptical about it either, I feel nothing for this trailer. A trailers job is to lure an audience in and I personally can't be lured in with this. All I see is pretty visuals which at this point mean nothing to me and random... stuff. Just, here's stuff. It's random, isn't your interest peaked? Not really. I'm not someone who's read a ton of interviews and lurked around the game development like a hawk so I know enough of the backstory to make sense of it.

All I know is that it is in Russia or whatever, robots are around and it got some alternate reality thing going on. But I don't know what kind of game it is. Is it horror? Is it action? Is it RPG in first person? Is it action RPG? Well the trailer says it is action RPG, but I don't see any RPG aspect to it so that means nothing to me. You can easily say one thing and do something completely different because your interpretation of the genre differs from mine.

Is it open world? Is it corridor crawler? Is it semi-open world? Is it linear? Open-ended? Judging from the map it "looks" like it has a lot of places to cover but that trailer map can be awfully deceiving.

Is it Survival? Serious Sam-esque shoot-a-ma-thron? Part of it looks survival esque but then the character pulls some fucking anime fighting moves and it looks silly.

On that note, tone is important. And again I don't know what to make of its tone. The trailer changes from mystery to horror to action to just silly shit constantly that I don't know what I'm to expect from it. Obviously a game can change its tone from time to time so that it doesn't get overbearing by constantly trying to make you feel one solitary emotion throughout the experience but if you're going to introduce new players to a new IP then it is very important to make sure they know what the overall tone of the game is going to be like.

And the trailer tells me nothing of the backstory either. It's just... Stuff. It's like if a Fallout Trailer were to just show you a bunch of iconic stuff with zero explanation of what it is. Like one second it is a BOS logo, the next it is Master making a facial animation, the next it is a super mutant blown up by a missile, the next is you digging up Willy in Golgotha, the next is a shot of Cathedral, the next is you getting diddled by that super mutant in Broken Hills (Frank?). I just can't be intrigued by this because I don't know what I'm looking at and the trailer gives me zero incentive to want to look into it either.

I'm not saying anything about the quality of the game because I know nothing about it. My sole criticism here is the trailer. It is supposed to entice me into wanting to play this game and I don't understand what the hell I'm looking at. It's stuff. I can tell you that. A lot of stuff. And things happen, I don't know what those things are but they sure do happen. And boy would you look at robo breakdance over here, but wait there's more! Here's a humanoid creature made up of blood vessels but let's not pay attention to that did we go over how good our game looks graphically cause here's some scenes of that!

A lot of things.
A lot of stuff.
And I understand nothing of it.

I have more than enough games in my backlog as to not be starved for a new game so I can't be enticed by this.
You can't just show me stuff and things and oh look it's so pretty and expect that to be enough for me.
I need context, and this trailer has none as far as I can see.

First impression means a lot, and my first impression is confusion to the point of disinterest.

Hell, judging by the block of texts I've written I'd say I'm more interested in talking about how non-interested I am of the trailer than the actual contents of the trailer. I had to give the trailer a once over as I wrote this post and I was just insanely bored the entire time.

Maybe understanding nothing of it, will be a part of the experience? Who knows. At this point, everyone can only speculate. As far as the 'Backstory' goes, I think they said that you're a Soviet officer who has been send to a secret reserarch facility they lost contact with, to check out what's happening there and why no one is reporting. So there is that.

My theory, it involves some kind of experiment that went horribily wrong - duh!. Maybe with alternate realities, which have mind altering effects or what ever. Think about Event Horzion here, where you open a portal to some kind of dimension, which doesn't follow the laws of nature, which would be of course confusing. I would find that idea somewhat intriguing. It would at the very least, explain some of the things we have seen so far. But I get your point and I am not trying to convince you of anything. Just saying.

There is also a 10 min gampelay video out now:

But I am afraid, it doesn't explain anything. It just shows some of the mechanics in the game. I really like the style and artistic direction to say the least.

But no AKM Assault Rifle :/!

Your theory is more interesting than the trailer. :V

I'll check the gameplay video later, maybe it'll help clarify some things for me.

I watched the gameplay video and yeah I don't see what there is to be excited about really.
It had a brief moment where I got a Bioshock atmosphere but the rest of the time I just felt like I needed context.
And the combat looked awful, it's pre-alpha though so hopefully it'll improve.

He smoked a cigarette for seemingly no reason.
He picked up food but never ate it despite health being low so I have no idea how healing works or what the purpose of food is.
Some of the things down in the labs made me lose my suspension of disbelief as it just didn't seem to make sense nor seem practical.

It looks nice. Good graphics, good aesthetics, interesting reality warping stuff.
But the gameplay feels clunky, awkward, unresponsive and confusing and the story and setting still lacks any kind of context for me to get into it.

Like, apparently it's an awful lot of walking down corridors, occasionally stumbling into enemies and dealing with awful combat.
So it feels like a artsy fartsy version of russian Bioshock where they care more about the aesthetics and graphics than they do the gameplay.
All flare, no substance.
Like, if the game didn't look this good, graphically, would it still garner the same kind of excitement?
Hell, at this point I'd argue it is a walking simulator where you have to deal with chores (combat) every once in a while.

Hopefully it does improve because if the combat gets better and they reveal more of the story and setting then it looks like it could be a good game.
Since it seems like everyone and their dog is dead i don't see how it could have a strong narrative, unless it is all audio like Bioshock; So that means that all the game has is gameplay and that needs to be good. You can have poor gameplay but an amazing story and I will endure the poor gamplay just so I can experience the story, like The Walking Dead. But from what I've seen there has been absolutely no focus on the story at all and I find that very suspect, so if the story is barely there or poorly executed then is this gameplay really enough to suffice a full game? Like, it will obviously be compared to Bioshock because of a lot of similarities and, well, gameplay-wise Bioshock, a 12 year old game, puts this one to shame.

I'm unimpressed, but I can see potential and I fully acknowledge that it is pre-alpha so things can improve and hopefully they do. Because I wouldn't mind a russian reality mindfuck Bioshock.

That is some extremely cheeki breeki game. Hope they can explain the fucked up shit with some good story.
I also hope it's gonna be made.

Biovodkaschock?

The trailer for Stalker 2 also looks neat. Not that much really shown outside of some visuals really. But what they have shown so far looks ok.
