Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
So the trailer is finally out:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/hd/

I couldn't wait to see the footage but now I don't know what to think. Looks too much like an animated movie to me. Could be interesting though.

For those who don't know, it's the new James Cameron movie and the most expensive movie ever, or some BS like that.

Any opinions?

Super fucking Meh.

Looks like a trailer for a World of Warcraft expansion.

My ex-girlfriend played nightelves constantly so there's inherent feeling of doom and dread when seeing the blue elves running around. It makes me feel like somehow she won a battle of ideologies.

I'm going to burn everything.

The CG is overdone and it looks way too animated. And really? Did he have to not have any spoken words narrating the premise in the preview?

When I saw it in the theaters, nobody really got hyped for it since we had no idea what was going on.

So are humans beating the crap out of elves? If so, that is awesome. Makes me want to play Arcanum and fucking scorch every god damn mage with my flamethrower.

This is my take on it. People with disability, or their minds are somehow transported into the elves, at start they live nice and happily on that planet, but at one point humans decide that can't be and decide to attack the once-humans-now-elves...

What, no! Humans find a planet where the elves are the indigenous population, then the humans decide to go batshit and nuke it.

Ironically, the most CGI looking part of the trailer was when that human guy rolled out of the ship in a wheelchair.

Since it's Cameron, it has to be somewhat decent, at least. It just seems way too cartoony than I expected.

Are you saying that they turn cripples into cat-people? I freaking hope not. What sense does that make?

Morons.

In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.

Well would you be a cat man and be able to run, walk etc, or be human and be cripple. It's obviously they found/captured an elf and transported main character's mind in his body. I'd also guess that isn't the only case. Maybe not all elves are once-humans, but main character is and I'd guess from trailer there are at least few more.

I assume wikipedia has a description, but this would be my take.

Why?
Sure, Terminator 1+2 and Aliens were great.
But what have you done for me lately, James?

If that's indeed the case then I already have a problem with this movie. If they could do that, wouldn't they be able to cure cripples? Now that I think about it, why are there cripples in that world anyway? It looks too advanced for that.

Lately, he's been into documentaries and TV specials but all his action movies were pretty badass. If Avatar is half as good as any of them, it should be decent.

ok, wtf?

so what exactly makes this based on the cartoon???

i have seen some of that show, and nothing in this is similar in any shape or form.

Hahaha... No, no relation to the Nickelodeon 'toon that I know of, although I liked that show too.

Haha Wes, I made that mistake at first too (unless you're being playful).

There are two movies coming out

One is by M. Night Shymalan called The Last Airbender which is based on the TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender.

This one is called Avatar and is based on... nothing?

Based on Cameron's genius, foo'. I'm curious how it'll turn out.

Also, maximaz is officially gay for linking from an apple website.

You are all forgetting to mention The Abyss. That was a great movie as well. He's one of the few people out there who have made quality SF, you know? A guy like that deserves a little faith.

Well, I don't know how good the movie will be but because the James Cameron is working on it, I know it will not be bad...
