Been thinking of buying Syberia 1 and 2.. Anyone played em?

I'm not a big fan of these kinds of games but it reminded me a bit of the longest journey when i watched some trailers.. Are they any good?
I do like harder games and i saw someone mentioning that the second game is harder but it might still be a really easy game?

I played both of them, though didn't finish the second, got stuck near the end. I liked the atmosphere very much, the story and puzzles were interesting, though this was pretty long ago, when i wasn't that good at logical thinking. I guess you could try the first one before deciding on the second, as it has the better story and general atmosphere, though the second one at times is a bit more difficult.

I've only played Syberia 1.

If you like walking, walking up stairs, walking down stairs, walking some more, and walking around a lot, Syberia 1 is your cup of tea. The problem is you can't skip screens while walking/running around and whoever made that game was absurdly interested in padding the environment with screen after screen of useless scenery. If you ever forget something in an area, have fun crossing around 20-40 screens while backtracking. After I arrived in the second chapter, I was horribly fed up with having to traverse yet even more screens that could've easily been compressed into more compact gameplay. Staircases become the bane of your existence because they prolong the agony of travelling even further.

Perhaps the scenery was, once, considered of particularly good quality, but if that was the reason to make you suffer through it at a slow pace without the ability to skip, then the game hasn't aged very well at all in my opinion. The setting, however, is nice and interesting, but that's really all Syberia has going for it. Neither the story nor the characters were captivating enough for me to keep playing. The puzzles were decent.

Unless you posses the patience of a monk, I wouldn't recommend Syberia to anyone. The Longest Journey is, by far, a better game; one of the finest adventures I've every played in fact. I can't say anything of Syberia 2 because the first left a bad taste and I didn't want to take my chances with wasting time on the second. Perhaps I'll give it a shot one of these days.

I do love walking.... the same way i love getting kicked in the nuts.. I'm not sure anymore :P

If you need some more opinions, check the Good Old Games subforum on the Syberia series. A lot of people really like the game because of the setting and aesthetics, but to some (me included) the clunky gameplay just made it unbearable. I think I've gotten less patient with games over the years. Had I played Syberia 1 a few years ago, say in 2005 or so, I might've been more positive. It really comes down to whether you do or don't mind the game's gameplay limitations.

Actually, on second thought, why not just go and watch a Let's Play of Syberia 1. It won't really spoil much. He includes backtracking but shows overlays of concept art instead so as not to bore people. The stairs at 0:35 and the backtracking at 11:00 are a good preview of what you'll be meeting constantly. It doesn't seem annoying at first, but it adds up after a while.

I've played through both, and enjoyed them. It starts slow, but after you leave the first area the story picks up nicely. Travel is actually quick if you run (double click where you want to go), and as long as you thoroughly scope out each area you won't find yourself backtracking much at all, most of the puzzles are straightforward, lacking the goofy "adventure game logic" found in similar titles.
