Best song to listen to whilst roaming?

Ain't that a Kick
Disclaimer: Sorry if there have been topics like this before, I haven't been around long enough to know!

So, one of my favourite parts of F:NV is of course, just roaming around looking for random encounters or nearly-forgotten corners of the map. I almost always have the pip boy music playing, and there's always those one or two songs I get genuinely excited about when they come on the radio.

Though apparently my favourite is not a popular one, (according to youtube comments, so that may be dubious), I actually found Johnny Guitar to be the best roaming song. It's obviously not as ironically chipper as some of the others, but I like how it can really create a melancholic mood.

Opinions? To clarify, I'm not just asking what your favourite song is in the game, I'm asking specifically what you like to listen to when you're wandering without a clear objective.

I tend to leave the radio off as much as possible, when I'm roaming, myself. The station playlists are fun and fitting, but to me the original Mark Morgan soundtrack has no peer when it comes to evoking the proper admixture of empty, sun-baked slogs, haunted echoes of the old world, a sense of foreboding, and the glimmering, far-off possibility of new discoveries.

When I do have the radio on, that means that I'm in the mood for something to break that spell for a bit, so my favorite rambling music from the stations is usually something as far in the other direction as possible. I've always been partial to "I'm Movin' Out" and "Lone Star" when I feel the need to switch something on-- both feel like good music for setting a pace on a dusty old trail. Lone Star in particular is a favorite because of the dramatic irony it takes on after the revelations made in Lonesome Road.

DarkCorp: Ah yes, Ain't That a Kick in My Head is definitely one of my favourites. I especially like that song for epic moments in the game, like battles or plot points.

Yamu: LONE STAR! Love listening to that one when at physical high points on the map, like a mountain or what have you. Since staring into the distance is one of my favourite pastimes in fallout games, specifically staring at the Lucky 38's far-off glow, Lone Star and Blue Moon are very appropriate for that, since they well, talk about looking into the distance. I'm Movin' Out rarely plays for me, for whatever reason.

During my first few play-throughs of NV, I very rarely just listened to the default game atmosphere music. However, today I started a new file [my first one in Hardcore mode, yikes] and I'm giving the non-radio soundtrack a try. It certainly makes killing a lot less comical, heh...but it's definitely well-made music, and I can't believe I waited this long to listen to it more consistently.

Big Iron--I loved that song long before New Vegas, and I still love it now. It's my favorite song to listen too when out roaming the wastelands.

I also like Ain't That a Kick in the Head, and I sometimes find myself singing along to Heartache by the Number.

I like pretty much the entire playlist, and wish there was more to be honest. Too bad they didn't include the song "We Will All Go Together When We Go" by Tom Lehere. That is freaking hilarious xD

Depends on the situation for me, but I like most of the New Vegas soundtrack.

I guess "Lone Star" and "In the Shadow of the Valley" when I'm walking around desolated places and "Ain't that a kick in the head" when I'm in the casinos.

Oh, and I'm always in the mood for "Jingle Jangle Jingle".

"Ain't That a Kick in the Head" by too many miles. I grow overjoyed when its spot on the radio playlist is reached, and despondent when it's over. It's just such a catchy, delightful, enjoyable tune, and it's somehow found its way as the song that most embodies FONV more than any other sound bit, so it makes for a wonderful experience every time it comes on. None of the other songs really do as much for me on any level, by comparison. I get a kick (no pun intended) out of original tracks playing in certain places, and while I like FONV's scores considerably, everything falls by the wayside next to "Ain't That a Kick in the Head". =)

Can this be music we actually do listen too while roaming the Mojave? or is it only for the music that shipped with the game?

For music that shipped with the game, "Big Iron" is good, a favorite actually, and so are the other favorites mentioned, "Ain't That a Kick in the Head", "Lone Star", "Johnny Guitar", but again, I have a lot of the original Fo1 and Fo2 ambient music playing in certain locations, ... http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/38557/?

There are several "abandoned in place" ambient music tracks that actually shipped with the game, but were never used: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/39969/?

Someone mentioned an extended playlist (200 additional tracks)? http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35966/?
... and "More Vintage music for Radio New Vegas and Mojave Music Radio" by Dexter8522 and Three Dog found here: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40453/?

I am currently making a "personal"* mod that has stuff like this on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z79pgPn357g
and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A__w_YFYUpA < this one fits the mood of some places, I think.

*personal because it can not be released for general distribution due to copyright law.

"Big Iron" is great, especially if you've just emerged, victorious, from a shoot out, or in the process of blowing Benny's head off.

"Ain't That a Kick in the Head" is definitely the most "Vegas-y" of the bunch, and is my favorite when I'm prowling around New Vegas proper.

When I'm roaming the wastes, I prefer "Roundhouse Rock".

Usually I find myself singing along "Ain't that a kick in the head." I like to hear the news, but after the first loop I shut it off. Yet I prefer to stay in the Ultra-Luxe for their music. Otherwise I'm listening to my environment. I'm too paranoid to not to submerge myself.

Another one of my favorites, not mentioned here, "Why don't You Do Right?", by Peggy Lee? Don't know why I didn't mention it before, that song tends to stick in my head every once in awhile, very blues, ... literally find myself wandering the Mojave and singing that song even though it is not currently playing, ... hmmm could also be one of the weird things too, ...

The one I couldn't get enough of when I first played FO:NV was "Big Iron" by Marty Robbins. I feel like it set the tone of the wild west culture of the game and even inspired me to build my first character as a good-natured ranger/cowboy after guys like Texas Red.

I honestly love all the actual music in-game and switch back and forth from each radio station frequently. I prefer Radio New Vegas because Mr. New Vegas makes me smile every time.

The Fallout soundtrack is eerie and brings the seriousness to the surface. Still haven't listened to all of it I'm sure but will for sure.

I'd say for roaming, for me the best songs would be "Blue Moon", "Jingle, Jangle, Jingle", "Let's Ride Into The Sunset Together", "Lone Star", "Something's Gotta Give", "Stars Of The Midnight Range" and "Why Don't You Do Right?" all have a western traveling feel to me and fit nicely when exploring the wastes. Otherwise, no radio does great as it's the score of the Mojave Wasteland.

Now if it's music for a gun fight..... that's a different list.

Personally, I'm a fan of the calm, plodding and humorous "Home on the Wastes" and it's real version "Home on the Range"

But of course, you can't beat good old Kay Kyser.

It's more of a theme to NV then the damn Main Title soundtrack.

I always found it suited quite well in the midst of a firefight.

this was one of my favourite songs before New Vegas was announced, so when i saw New Vegas trailer i was like I GOTTA PLAY THIS

and I like roaming wasteland with no music - no radio, nor ambient. it has some special atmosphere to it, hearing wind blowing in the desert is my kind of music. but when i'm in towns or something, I like listening to custom radio stations, default new vegas radio songs aren't as good as those in Fallout 3 (but I love Big Iron, Ain't That a Kick in the Head and both Peggy Lee's songs)

Most definetly the ambient soundtrack is the best, altho I have like 6 moded in Radio Stations too, I usually play the Rockabilly one when going into hostile territories.

I,d say my favorite would be "Let's ride into the sunset together". I can't help it, I'm a hopeless romantic... Although, there are so many great songs to hear, it's hard to choose one. Unfortunately, for every "Heartache by the numbers" we get on the list, there is ALWAYS "Johnny f***ing guitar!" God, I HATE that song!!!!!! Also, that annoying "Mad about the boy"...

I also have to mention "Lone star", "Big iron" and "Ain't that a kick in the head". These songs are simply amazing!
