Bethesda and IPLY taunted

Briosafreak was kind enough to scan a small article regarding Bethesda and IPLY in the French magazine called Joystick. Here's a rough translation on what they said:<blockquote>Now it`s Bethesda who owns the Fallout license and that left many in perplexity. Not that we want to put down their games, no. The atmosphere and freedom in the Elder Scrolls series are excellent, but it's hard to imagine them doing a Falloutish post apocalyptical.
Bethesda has never proved that they could create interesting and fun dialogues, for instance. Also their FPS combat is chaotic and [bourrin], thank you very much.
Yes we understand that their adaptation will be something more than a radiated Morrowind.Maybe our concerns aren't legitimate. The developers could do some interviews to reassure us, we'll wait until we see something working to give a more sincere opinion.

On their side the Interplay zombies kept the multiplayer games rights. They are moving slowly and clumsly towards us, their arms stretched while mumbling something like <<Fallout onlineeee>>. I believe we're just going to keep them at bay discretly.</blockquote>Hehe, I especially liked the zombie bit..

Thanks Briosafreak!

Sexy zombies are the worst.

You think youre getting head, when instead they bite you where it really hurts.

And in defense of the devs, theyre open to interviews, but not allowed to do so unless PEte Hines gives premission. So far, he hasnt.

Yeah, the biting hurts a lot. Burn the sexy zombies too. Or just chop off their heads and skull.. uh, gotta run.

There are no devs to be open to interviews because currently there are no devs for Fallout 3. As we've said several times, we're in pre-production and in the process of hiring people to work on the game. When there are devs, and they are ready to talk about the game, and we have something to talk about, we'll talk about the game.

Petey, is that truly you ? Don't say it's too early to tell
Some mod give him developer status, it sure sounds like him.

But seriously, welcome to these forums, i hope you see the guys here all have great hearts beneath the thick armor of cinism... well besides roshambo, he's just mean :D

And don't mind if some of us seem a bit overanxious, most people are already settled with waiting, but when something that looks kind of newsworthy pops up we get all frilly (not me, i'm always cool, i try to tell people not to put the wagon in front of the oxen)

Damn you, I had already tought to post this marvelously on-topic strip:
20020227l.gif

and then you come out of nowhere and make me bust out with the welcoming... but anyway, thanks Penny arcade for that strip (not that anyone here wouldn't recognize it).

Need any ex-interplay employees?

a little comment about the source of the article:

for years Joystick has been in my opinion the best pc game magazine in Europe (been reading it for years). recently the entire team was changed so we'll see if they continue being as critical as they used to be. it was one of the few magazines who dared to stomp the big game developers in the gut.

kinda useless comment maybe, because most of you cant read french :p

They still have some hardcore Fallout fans in the new team, and Cafféine was kept from the old team, so we`re alright Suaside.

Welcome Pete

Yeah Pete, y'all are gona need a FO website soon, and thats what Corith did for Iply (well, I think she did the whole Iply site, but still......)

^ What they said. I mean if Krazi is really a man I've had some seriously misguided fantasies...

yeah i know Caf stayed and that the biggest part of the team are RPG fans, but that doesnt necessarily mean that they are just as critical and well educated in the history of games as the old team.

looks ok atm though...

so all frenchies, belgish, canooks and other french speaking/reading dweebs on the forum: buy Joystick :p

Krazi Katt worked, in a very around about fashion, for me. She (yes, she is a she) handled updating the content of the web site once it was created. She also created most of the graphics on the site that the general public saw, although I developed the initial concept for the sliding menu web site from 2 years ago (I wrote the DHTML for those menus). I wrote the code that pulled data from SQL and manipulated that data for display.

Web design was not my original field. One of my degrees is in history. I was a content consultant in the design of the local area network, multiplayer, role playing game, Shattered Light as well as story designer and level scripter. I was also a content adviser for Star Trek: Starship Creator and functioned as design consultant on Starship Titanic, Survivors: Testimonies of the Holocaust, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Brat Attack.

I have also worked as freelance writer for Stroke & Dagger and Mind's Eye magazines in addition to designing game supplements for Iron Crown Enterprises and Hero Games. I had my own-featured gaming column in the Long Beach Union Newspaper. I also spend many years as a historical consultant, game designer, and game mechanics design assistant for The Balboa Game Company.

The week before Interplay closed, I was approved to make a lateral move from web application engineer to game design.

Hmm, wonder if we ever interacted over at the old boards.

As for round about, I doubt you're either Dan or Bill so I doubt we've actually talked on the tele then.

By the way, I"ll try to explain what "bourrin" means:
  • Not tactic
    Click-click-click
    Fast and furious

Doom 3, Quake, Serious Sam (maybe the best example) and every solo games where you just run and click without any form of tactic have what we call "bourrin" combat.

Do you have a translation for that word?
