Bethesda has the best fan interaction *ever*

I wonder what would happen If we all publicly boycotted a first person/realtime fallout 3 and bethesda products, if it would just back them in a corner and force them to do fallout the right way :D ... no, that's too evil.

Will probably end up coming to that though, eventually.

That would NEVER work. Just coz a bunch of people say they're going to boycott the game doesn't mean they will, they'll just go and buy it anyway.

Plus, I'm a hardcore Fallout fan and even if the game turns out mediocre I'm going to get it, know why? "Know thy enemy"... I don't believe ignorance is the answer to anything, I'm not going to pretend that it doesn't exist and just boycott it, I'd rather get smart and then actually have an argument with them rather then a "you're wrong, I'm right" type of thing.

Also, you have to realize that the people who are so hardcore that they'd just boycott it probably make up about .00001% of the community. It would have no effect except that you may miss out on a good game regardless of whether it's like Fallout 1 + 2 or not.

Because you like to reward failure? If the game is mediocre, and I'm not saying it will be, but if it is, then the worst thing you can do is run out and buy it. The one big problem with the game industry today is that publishers who think they can get away with making something mediocre will continue making things that are mediocre because mediocrity doesn't cost as much as greatness.

I think if they really want to calm the fans, they should get their priorities sorted out and TELL us what to expect.

They should say:
We ARE going to have S.P.E.C.I.A.L we ARE going to make it turn-based we ARE making it isometric.

It's not a matter of whether or not they are going to do it, because if they're not going to have those things in mind from day one this will not be a real fallout-game!
So instead of saying "oh we're so early in the dev cycle bla bla bal" they should already go out with a statement saying they're going to live up to the fans expectations on these points no matter what.
By not doing so they're just admitting that they are ready to scrap things anytime in favor for easier development and fast money.
Bleh, I don't care if they can't or not they should realize that we've seen fallout screwed over two times too many now and dont' really have patience for these idiot developers.

On the other hand, promising shitloads of cool stuff, Chucky style, would make me just as uncomfortable, Just give the fans some time to digest it. Still, funny too see how infuriated the Bethesda devs are at our rampant replies ha-ha!

well I think the problem is that they announced that they had the license WAY too early.

It doesn't even seem like they know what the game's going to be like yet.

That's probably why they acn't give us definitive answers.

We'll just have to wait 6 months or something and then they'll tell us more I'm sure.

Oh well... hopefully Troika will make a game very reminiscent of Fallout and we can all just adopt that as the spiritual continuation of Fallout whether it goes by that name or whatever.

I would be in favor of that, however, interplay apparently got all over Troika because Arcanum was too much like Fallout. If they could do it legally then go for it, but if not then theres really no hope left.

They probably didn't have much choice, seeing as how the money they spent will probably keep Interplay afloat for a few more months, and people would definitely be asking Iplay where the money came from. It would have come out one way or another.

Well I don't think SPECIAL (for example) is a requirement of a good post-apoc RPG.

So... as long as the game didn't have SPECIAL and didn't have the same engine as Fallout I wouldn't think there'd be a problem.

But... Interplay are fuckheads... so that's a problem.

I'm glad to see there are some Fallout fans who are willing to look at the situation with an open-mind.

You have to understand that the ball is in their court, not yours. You're not going to get the ball off them by hurling insults at them and making demands. If you play hard-ball, they'll play hard-ball and it won't turn out right for you...the people who don't have the ball. You can either work with them, or work against them .. one way may actually work.

This is a British person trying to use American terminology.

Exactly, which is why we should try to work with them. I'm sure if they wanted to they could just forget the existing fallout community and aim the game at the Elder Scrolls fans and the rest of the RPG community, which they have succesfully done in the past.

Yeah but I also don't think taht screaming at a brick wall with no knowledge of anything helps either.

What happens if it turns out their system is 10 times better then the old system? Maybe they've got a better idea for how the gameplay should work and so we're all just yelling at them and proclaiming we're right out of ignorance. We just don't have enough details to be able to put them down like that.

Tim must be pissed... I mean his baby is being continuously dragged through the dirt...
He might be, but if he was, its more our fault then it is bethesda.
(yeah its more iply fault then ours, but iply is done, we wont have to deal with them anymore)

I'm glad more people realise that constant persimism and flaming just won't get us where we want to be,

As to a why the devs are talking, its because they are polite and want to answer questions, they could simply ignore us (which they are likely to do if the flaming and such continues), Instead they give us answers, though vague as they may be, I see hints in them.
and it's a quite simple one :
"They aren't ready to come out with answers yet"
I'm betting plans change with the day, I mean thats just how it goes.

I think we should all respect that, and just well forgive there mistakes if you think they made so many, patience is a virtue and right now it comes down to who has the most of it.

As to the statement that the fallout fans can't be told to do otherwise :
I think they can be, if more and more people keep giving the right example, more and more will follow, and maybe someday, we are discussing things with the devs from bethesda.

One might never now how it turns out :)

Why would it be our fault if Tim Cain was pissed about the treatment of the Fallout license? This isn't one of those "the fans killed Interplay" things, is it?

I think we're all open to discussion of various bits that make up Fallout. I would guess that the lack of information coming out of BS has led to wild speculation.

I think we're at the point we play wait and see.

Again.

Timmy's a big boy. He knew he was making a product.

I honestly don't understand what the fuck that guy is whining about. Overall Bethesda's being treated very cautiously (no one is claiming that Fallout 3 will definitely suck), even now when the interviews set the sirens blazing. Hell if I were him I'd shed a grateful tear or two!

no one here knows who i am, which is fine because i never post here. but i ckeck up nma several times a day, and i am as big a fan of any of you. (i can even remember the fallout bibles word for wore...((almost)))) :P

i think the problem we have, is the more vocal of us fans, have made such a fucing racket in the past, we now have given ourselves a name. people think fallout fans are noisey, abusive, and as soon as anyone says soemthing we dont like, we jump on them like pirhanas. yes we have been fucked about a helluva lot, and yes i would personally hit chucky or herve in the face if i got a chance, but we have to be more professional when dealing with these new guys.

if we get on at them, (too much) it may just create a minor feeling of spite, and make them think 'oh fuck it, whatever we do they wont be happy with anyway, so fuck it'

like it or not people, this could may well be the last chance at fallout 3 indefinately, so for the love of all the monkeys in africa, stop fucking flaming for a bit. complain WHEN they do it wrong, not before.
