Bethesda has the best fan interaction *ever*

I love all you NMA people...you are the best...everytime I see a fight break out around here you just shred anybody. I'm not the most intelligent person in the world, but I've noticed something about those people who truly love the fallout series, they are intelligent thoughtful people...at least those around here...and they don't put up with shit. I applaud you all and wish you could somehow make Fallout 3 yourselves, as you all would nail it.

Ah...keep it coming.

Metron still has a point, though. By posting that information and presenting it as Bethesda policy, Kharn has essentially placed HayT's career in danger.
As I said before, I cannot believe people keep citing this "presented as company policy" argument. Kharn quoted a dev, and then summed it up with his interpretation. Clearly an expression of personal opinion spiced with sarcasm unless you are a blind and deaf ox. No offence, of course.

Macaco said:
Kharn should also have been clearer in showing that those were the opinions of a single employee, and not the company.
As I said before - I just don't see how that isn't clear in the first place. He said he is citing a dev who posted on SA. That's it. Noone in his right mind would take the last paragraph so literal as to claim "it's company policy"

Stupid Man said:
HayT's profile isn't public but his thread was. And Kharn isn't a forum member. I like panties. And chocolate. Hmmm... Chocolate.
I recall reading that before, but apparently noone cares. Hypocrites.

This whole argument is very, very retarded.

at the elderscrolls forums the moderator "hayt" uses the email bchapin@_removemefirst_bethsoft.com (for those not familiar, remove the "_removemefirst_" to email him, it's an antispam measure)
So I'd have to enter bchapin@bethsoft.com to get the actual adress, then.
I also like to say: MacBeth.

Bethesda's reputation for being on good terms with it's fans is no small thing. They've spent conscious effort to create this situation. We still haven't seen the wide-ranging effects of HayT's comments, which could negatively impact the company. If a low-level employee causes that much trouble, I would venture a high probability of firing.

Lets be honest here.

Bethesda could have announced free $5000 hookers with every purchase of Fallout 3, and we still would have been pissed off at them for getting the liscense. They are in a complete no win situation -- and one of their employees vented on a private forum about how annoying some trolls were.

He's NOT going to get in trouble for that. Period. You guys would be calling for Bethesda's head regardless. To be honest, I donno WHY they announced Fallout 3 so early. The only logical thing I can think of is Interplay demanded they do so in order to help save their skins.

How about we all just sit back and take a wait and see approach? There are FAR, FAR worse companies that could have gotten the liscense.

For example:

Microsoft. Fallout 3 becomes a XBox Exclusive FPS. It's "edgy and innovative" because you can choose to play as a hooker.

Square Enix. Fallout 3 becomes a traditional RPG with over 75 hours of cutscenes and a storyline revolving around a group of Brotherhood of Steel fighting against the angry spirit of the planet. Oh, did I mention you can equip "Spirit Pies" which give your character "Spirit Power?" Each attack is followed by a 3 minute long computer animated movie involving 50' tall Gecko-dragons.

Sony. FalloutQuest. *shudder*

Derek Smart. Tremble in terror, for the liscense killer has come.

Of course, there could have been better ones...

Quest/Nippon Ichi: Fallout 3 becomes a Disgaea/Final Fantasy Tactics style SRPG that takes place in Japan about 50 years after Fallout 2. It's fairly close to Fallout's feel other than that, although some of the attacks are rather over the top.

Trokia. Nuff said.

A community as big as Something Awful has to have its share of idiots. However, your ridiculous generalizations and hostility don't exactly give a good impression of NMA either. One has to wonder why JE Sawyer has over 8000 posts on SA and merely 16 on a forum dedicated to a game he was designing. Something Awful has to be doing something right considering there are right now 2679 (out of 35500) members (who paid for their accounts) and 541 guests online right now.

you're right something awful has its fair share of idiots. Certain members using arguments that come down to "we're more poular", and "JE likes us more" prove that.

I can probably tell you what something awful is doing right, they have:
1) always a lot going on (lots of people, lots of posts, as you said)
2) a sometimes funny/always popular mainsite
3) hype, something awful is hot
4) "famous" people (well... people that people know/have heard of, who have done somewhat important things, who have something to share) posting there (like the beth guy and JE)
5) and probably even cool posters (that are staying out of this mess for obvious reasons)

What that has to do with this argument other than falling into a pathetic "we're better than you" flamewar... i dont know. was there a point? cause i'm missing it.

yet he still can't even access the disclaimer, as only SA subscribers can access member profiles.

good work, genius.

hahahaha :)

I am pretty certain that had Bethsoft not mentioned the 'we do what we do best' and non isometric thing, I wouldn't be as angry as I am now. If they had said 'we consider turn based combat and isometric viewpoints to be part of Fallout's core and we want to respect that', I'd have been cheering them on.

As for the $5000 hooker thing, Fallout is Fallout but for a $5000 hooker I'd be willing to keep quiet for a bit. As long as she was disease free.

Important safety tip, thanks, Tea!

If It were me, I would have waited for a few weeks to at least have a development plan going before I announced anything.

Personally, I think a 3rd person 3D fallout isn't the end of the world. Ya, it'll be different. So? Some of you act like they're going to make another FBOS.

Trying to generalize the forums in anyway is doomed to fail due to the fact that it's a forum with topics that range well beyond video games.

The only thing that stands pretty much the same is the community that's evolved around the humour everyone shares in common.

Derlaid said:
Uh... I meant after the fact. Now that you all know. You know, like after you were told. On this very forum? Not like any goons posting here GOT you banned, it was EPG's call.
Can't post something I cannot see, can I. I'd have to take the word of several angry SA regulars, which isn't as trustworthy to me right now.

Derlaid said:
You guys certainly are angry for a community based on several video games made several years ago. What's the big deal about what he said anyway?

Nothing actually, but it was news and public. But ask yourself if it wasn't that big of a deal, then why have NMA members been banned and our site attacked by juvenile SA regulars ?

Meh..Like I said, I'm done with this..and this debate isn't getting anywhere...

I don`t see you concerned with the generalizations against NMA members beeing made on SA, do i Derlaid? So what`s the point?

I guess it's about time this topic died, at least for me. Right now it's only working as a troll magnet.

It was dead in the thread that HayT's comments were first quoted in. I was wondering why Kharn made this news in the first place considering that everybody had already vented their angst over HayT's comments.

I'd rather them do a good 3D one that stuck closely to the feel and spirit of Fallout than them trying to cludge together a 2D Isometric one and failing.. A good Fallout 3 in 3D with a 3D camera would be so much better than a poorly executed Fallout 3 with just a poorly hacked Fallout 2 engine.

I think a Fallout game with a camera similar to the one in Spellforce or Sacrifice would look well.

I didnt generalize, i gave possible reasons for SA's popularity because you decided to bring that up (for reasons quite possibly unkown to man). But nonetheless, thats all cool and stuff, congrats with your ever-evolving forum complete with humour everyone shares, i hope you all have a good time there, but then again, what does that have to do with anything??

ps. I dont think this is or should be a NMA vs. SA war, i like somethingawful and read a lot of their stuff and thought it was funny. But im not gonna pay for a forum, so i dont exactly know whats going on there. What i am do know though, is that the banning of Odin and Pope_Viper was, to put it mildly, not a nice move. People here said just that (only put a bit less mildly) and then the place got invaded by SA people defending their favorite forum/site, but miserably failing because its obvious and simple; SA protected (or kissed the ass of) one member at the expense of others, there is no way to justify that considering Odin and Pope_viper did nothing wrong. You (well, the SA people not interrested in FO) can leave now, there is no argument to win and there's no need to defend your favorite forum, because i ("we" i hope/think) do not have a problem with SA in general, just with this issue.
