Buying a PS3

Akratus

Bleep bloop.
I'm a life-long PC gamer, but my friend has offered me his PS3, plus some games I'm not that interested in (Skyrim, GTA V, Bioshock) for 100 euros. I can get Red Dead for 20, Demon's Souls for 20, and Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for 25. I want to know if I'm likely to be satisfied with this purchase.

100 for a PS3 with games is a good deal. Altho, I don't recommend Red Dead Redemption, that game bored me super fast (plus, The protagonist is apparently a relative of the evil witch of the west as he dissolves in water).

Is Grand Tefth Horses with insta death in water. If you are into that it will be good, if you are not into GTA you aren't missing much.

I'm not into GTA, but the story seems so good, and the atmosphere, and the music! And. . only decent western game out there? Clint Eastwood bro! I'd buy it if it's even remotely close to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: the game.

I don't know, I spent 2 hours doing chores (killing Coyotes, lassoing horses, herding cows) and doing cart races, also you die when you touch water. Only had fun when I went on a rampage on a town. Like I said is GTA with horses.

Red Dead is a very solid game. Don't let his opinion dissuade you from trying it out. The format is comparable to GTA-with-horses, but I would argue that GTA doesn't have shit on Red Dead. At this point the game is so cheap you can't lose. There are tons of must play titles for the PS3. I can list a few if you like...

Red Dead is the closet thing we have gotten to a western game that captures the feeling of the old west fairly well. I enjoyed just riding around, cheating at cards, and collecting bounties. The storyline is actually pretty good too. I can't gush enough about the game and I can tell you, two hours of playing it isn't enough time to really see what the game offers.

The tutorials in the beginning can be a little annoying, but after that everything runs smoothly. I would at least play until after you leave Mcfarlane's Ranch. If you like westerns you owe it to yourself to try it out.

I think you would be better off buying Persona 4 Ultimax or any of the Blaz Bleu team fighting games, or one of the multiple JRPGs available on the system. There is also Infamous if you want an open world game, the story is kind of meh, but the gameplay is fun.

I've decided to go for it. I'm not much of a fan of japanese games, but I haven't tried many. What are the must-haves besides RDR, Metal Gear and Demon's Souls?

I enjoyed Red Dead Redemption quite a lot, and it realy gets the ol' west spaghetti western feel going, actually I believe it's the only game out there that really captures it. Only reason I stopped playing is because of work schedules, I really should get back to it some time.

You could also argue that LA Noir is GTA style as well, but you would be making the same mistake than with Red Dead Redemption. They are both good games on their own.

The only console games i really want that i can't get on PC is The last of us and the fatal frame serie.. The first 2 games where awesome :) Think there is 1-2 games on ps3?

There's always Ninja Gaiden Sigma! 9_9 6_6

Honestly, some of the best games you won't find deals on, because they're digital downloads. Then again, if you buy PS+ there's always the chance you'll get them, but that's a waiting game, and I prefer just having what I need at the ready when I want it. Games like Soldner-X: Himmelsturmmer, Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype, Super Stardust HD, the former 2 of which are excellent sidescroller shoot-em-ups, and the latter of which is a 360 degree top-down view astroid destruction/survival game. All 3 are mind-rapingly hard (hell, including my NGS recommendation, that makes all 4 of the games I've listed as patience-testing simulators, to some degree!) but very satisfying and also FUN titles. If you suck at them, they have difficulty levels, and they're just damn satisfying to play. Great soundtracks, sweet visuals, and they call back to an era of gaming that let you figure out what you were doing by just giving you the wheel and finding out on your own... and there's fireballs everywhere in the street. Have fun! =D

Personally, I supremely enjoyed GTAIV and GTAV, so I dunno what anyone's problem with either games might be. But if they're just not your thing, they're not your thing.

Other titles that kicked ass? LittleBIGPlanet was amazing (and very easy to underestimate, but if you stick with it for 3 hours, you'll find yourself losing sleep unable to tear yourself away before long), the Uncharted series is phenomenal (the 2nd is arguably the best in the entire series, but they all have their highs and lows) so grabbing one or all of those is a must, if you never played the original the Shadow of the Colossus HD rerelease is a spectacular title, and a great game to wrap up the list of titles that'll be keeping you busy for months to come is 3D Dot Game Heroes by FromSoftware (same developers behind the Souls series). So, in list format...

Disc:
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
LittleBIGPlanet
Uncharted 1, 2, and/or 3
(but definitely 2)
Shadow of the Colossus HD
3D Dot Game Heroes

Digital:
Soldner-X: Himmelsturmmer
Soldner-X2: Final Prototype
Super Stardust HD

In addition the Demon's Souls, that should round out your list quite nicely. Have fun! =D

Actually there are a lot of deals on PS3 physical games, a bunch of "Player's choice" editions, you can get the 3 uncharted for the price of 1 (I mean they are all basically the same game anyway :V), The two Infamous, all the game from the Santa Monica Studios for the price of 1 and a bunch of other stuff. I actually got Ni no Kuni for cheap because it was a player's choice game.

Metal Gear Solid:Legacy Collection and Demon's Souls are hands down the best games you can get on the PS3.

If you're looking for more exclusives, Resistance 3 proved to be a rather surprisingly fun shooter with interesting weapons, a weapon limit upwards of 2 and cool environments.

I think you'll really enjoy Demon's Souls, Akratus.

I haven't received anything in the mail yet, except for the metal gear solid collection. Unfortunately I had no idea some of the games are digital downloads, and this copy being second hand (still a steal at 28 euros) the code was already used. But I went onto the playstation store and got me mgs1 for 9,99. Besides that I'll only miss some graphic novels without the code, as I hear the original metal gears are included in mgs3. Though I don't intend on playing them, I read the synopses in mgs1. I just started that, and am already impressed by the atmosphere. Although I'm not having an easy time, I appreciate the challenge. Besides, considering it's my first serious console gaming experience, I think I'm doing better than could be expected.

If you're just now getting into Metal Gear, you're in for a ride.

I'd recommend picking up Ground Zeroes for PC when you're done with the Legacy Collection, then The Phantom Pain when it comes out.

If I may, I don't know what your plans are for playing, but if you're going to play through the whole Legacy Collection, you might want to hold off a bit and play Demon's Souls first, as it's incredibly short and can be completed within a day or two, especially for an experienced Dark Souls player. Metal Gear on the other hand is a serious commitment.

Definitely play the Metal Gear Solid games in order to get the full experience.
