Caravan (In-Game)

SudoX

First time out of the vault
I know Fallout just came out and I've had a hell of a time playing it, I also got the collector's edition so I've got all the special goodies as well ^.^ My question is if anyone has found caravan cards in game? I know the owner in Vikki and Vance Casino has a "play caravan" text option, but you need 30 caravan cards to play (obviously, if you've read the caravan rules you'd know that :D) I'm wondering if the cards are hidden throughout the game world of if you can buy them? Anyone encountered any cards (in-game) yet?

One character fairly early in the game gave me.a free deck. Not sure who, though.

I saw a couple of cards for sale in the Goodsprings shop but had no idea what they were for.

what i want to know is how to build a good deck, and select it. strategy points. etc. i know how to play the game and i usually win, but i'm a little confused still.

also: anybody else notice Caravan is bugged and you never win any money? :(

Ringo.

On a side note - how do you play Caravan exactly? I am able to place my first card, but then when my second turn comes I only have the option to "Discard Card" until I run out of cards and lose.

Running from memory here (taking a break at work), but IIRC you need to use the arrow keys (assuming you are on PC) to choose a card to play. I only played about 3 hours last night and did one game of Caravan with Ringo. I burned through about a third of my deck with the same issue until I figured that out.

Here's a guide. I'm actually pretty anxious about this game...in a game as well.
Stop following my posts and being so helpful all the time. You make me feel stupid :(

But thanks, Oerjeke, SudoX, and FolcoTook. I'll check those tips/guides out.

NEVER!

Caravans actually a bit broken. As soon as you "get" the game winning it is waaaaay too easy.

Well if I represent my character, then my character is addicted ;) I'm trying to make up for the debt I acquired before I started to figure things out... Still sometimes it doesn't make sense!

I don't know man, No Bark was way better at it than everybody else up to that point. He beat me before I even finished one fucking pile! 'Course after that I went all-in and routed him for over $500. :D

Also: anybody know how to add cards to your deck or what any strategies for buying cards, using cards, arranging decks might be? This part is still over my head.

If you stack deck with same suit and kings and/or 10's and 6's. Same suit = play card anywhere, 6 -> 10 -> K on ten = 26

(while accumulating same suits and 6's and 10s, buy up all 7's, 8's and 5's (the 2 numbers next to 6 (5 and 7) and the 8's ill explain) and 9's (number next highest to 10s). Using the same basic strategy of 6+10+king on ten, you can do 5+10+king on 10 to get 25... 6+9+K9 to get 24... 10+8+k8 to get 26, lots of combos of 7 8 9 10 that get close to 26
10+8+8= 26, 9+9+8= 26 10+9+7 = 26, and so on)

Aces, and 2, can be pretty good to add to a 25 or 24... this will change the suit of that row, but should be last card you add anyway, and if that row is all the same suit you can play the ace as an ascending number.

So, exclude 3,4, J, Q, Joker to start, then improve your deck from there.

(Eventually you can narrow it down to only using 3 suits, then 2 then 1 to make the ultimate deck, where any card can play anywhere, and you wont have to follow the ascending and descending part of the rules)

I am still unclear sometimes why the game ends, but i win bc i have high caravan #'s. So why does game in fast and sometimes long? aka what ends the game?

how do you get the cards you buy integrated in your deck? is it automatic? i also don't quite get the "arranging" part of choosing your deck.

The game ends when the three of a player's caravans are in the 21-26 range and best all the opponent's caravans. If one of your caravans' tied with the other guy's caravan the game's gonna drag on until that's no more (eg: you use a J on one of the other player's cards to break the tie). Usually games get longer because both players are trying to get a lower card to break the tie by selling their caravans higher.

Took me a couple rematches against Ringo to figure out you could place cards on the other player's caravans and i'm still sorta confused. And still trying to figure out the deck building for myself...
