Caravan (In-Game)

It took me about 8 loses before I figured out how the game worked. I suggest playing against Joseph Nash because he only bets 1 so you can learn the game mechanics without breaking the bank (like I did with Ringo xD). I didn't find nobark to be too hard. I actually played him to make up for my deficit I acquired while learning to play.

i also don't quite get the "arranging" part of choosing your deck.

Sorry, thought someone else would have answered that by now.

OK, when you challenge someone to a game one of the first screens you see is "2" decks of cards, the cards on the top and the cards on the bottom. This is misleading (at first i thought i was picking me and my opponents hands or something). "Both" those decks are yours... both is in quotes bc it is not 2 decks. You are making the best deck you can by excluding bad cards (ie exclude all Queens and you will never be delt a queen again) and allowing/adding good cards (10's/6's/k's for example). So, the top deck will be the the cards that will be shuffled and delt to you in random order, and the bottom deck are the cards being excluded... so pick better cards (or exclude lesser cards as the case may be) to improve your chances of getting good cards, more good cards means more wins, and so forth.

And you get cards by finding them, or, for me at least, mostly buying them from just about anyone who you can trade with.

Greetings!

Can anyone tell me why I'm not able to play any card except face cards on my first card in a caravan? I can play any numbered card for the first card, but anything beyond that apart from face cards shows up red and the game won't allow me to place it. For instance, I played a 9 of diamonds as my first card in my first caravan. Ringo played a 9 of spades in his. Ringo played a 7 of spades on his 9 of spades. I try to play a 7 of diamonds on my 9 of diamonds, and it doesn't work. Nor does a 10 of diamonds, a 4 of clubs, or any other numbered card or ace.

Also, I have many stray cards from other casinos in my inventory that are not showing up in my deck. I still only have the stock deck when I go to play the game. What's going on? I'm bummed.

Holy crap, nevermind. I didn't realize you actually have to move the card -down- to place it. That should be automatic. >_<

However, the problem with cards remaining in my inventory persists. Any ideas?

Someone on the Bethesda board figured out the "cards don't go into your deck" problem:

The cards are supposed to be deleted from inventory and added to your deck when you acquire them. And this works if you take them from a body or a container. Possibly also if you take them from the ground. But it doesn't work if you buy them.

One assumes this will be fixed in a future patch. In the meantime, just add the cards to a container and then take them back. I can verify that they then show up in your Caravan deck the next time you play, on the "select your deck" screen. You still need to scroll over to them and add them to your active deck.

I haven't had this problem, I bought all my cards and they appear when I am making my deck :P

I'll have to try that out, sounds like the same problem I had with the boxes of pistol powders you can buy. i would buy them but they wouldn't "break open" and split into individual powders I could use for making bullets. Then I dropped one on accident and picked it back up and it magically split into the units of pistol powder.

I do 6's 7's 8's 9's 10's Kings and Jacks and I win usually within 10 turns. Caravan is good you always actually win double what the person bets. By Novac there is no reason you shouldnt have anywhere from 10-20k caps. Since you earn double what they bet BUY from the shop ... you could be more lame and keep buying/selling stuff back to make them have even more money .... come to think of it that means there is a way to exploit infinite money from anyone who runs a shop and plays caravan ... I am going to test this out when I get home ...

Ugh, I miss pazaak.

All that time not playing caravan because I hated the clutter the store bought cards made in my inventory. Thanks for the tip on how to fix that.

If Caravan is strictly for making money, I probably wont play it. Is there any specail use? Like pazaak you had to defeat successive players/join a tournament ect....

It depends on what you need by "good"

Is it hard? Not really, you just need to load your deck up with Kings, Eights, Tens, and Sixes.
