Combat Control for FO2 on OS X

PulpX

First time out of the vault
I just recently started playing fallout 2 for OS X and am having a weird problem with combat control. I can dialogue with my NPCs just fine, but when I click on combat control the text screen just slides down and I see the background with NOTHING on it. This is fairly frustrating since my NPCs can only perform default behavior in combat (Get out of the way Sulik).

Anyone else encounter this problem or know a workaround? Oh yeah, and the obvious "Get a PC" fix just doesn't help much. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

MacPlay Patch

Does not specifically mention a lost roll up screen, just a general hand wave at ""errors during game"".

Support page offers an e-mail option and a phone number.
214 area code looks like Big D-Texas ...

Have played Macplay's ports of FO1 and FO2 on Beige G3 with Jaguar, and
the Panther and Tiger versions of OS 10 on a 2002 vintage Powerbook.
No graphics problems encountered.

Do not recall any crashes, if any, not memorable.

Have not had to - force quit - to get out of FO 1 in OS 10.4.

Have always allowed lots of hard drive space, and have let the Mac OS 10 maintenance routines auto in the early a.m.'s.

Perhaps your FO2 CD needs a wipe and a reinstall will have a useable rendering of the Combat Control 'cell' field.

Thanks 4too
I did email support at Macplay and they responded pretty quickly. Wanted me to reinstall the whole thing which I am going to try tomorrow. Also, I did find a slight workaround. By randomly clikcing on the screen, I was able to bring up the custom attitude menu so at least i can change some of the character behavior.

I have the same problem, and I started the game already using the latest (1.02a) patch. PulpX, did reinstalling help?

yeah, I'm having the same issue and I'm wondering if the problem was solved. Since you're not posting, I would guess that means that it worked. :)

This is the exact problem I've been having. v. 1.02, and I can't update with that 1.02a patch that was posted, as the file downloads but expands to a folder with no items in it. Is there anything I can do to get a working copy of the patch?

The problem is most apparent in that I cannot tell my NPCs to use any armor, so they're quickly becoming useless now that I'm further into the game. I'm wearing Advanced Power Armor, and Sulik and Vic are getting dropped in a single turn. :(

I'm also having the same problem. I've even tried to contact Mac-Play, but no dice! Has anyone been able to fix this, or are we on our own, letting Sulik run in front of Marcus, getting chain-sawed to death with mini-gun bullets?

Anyone Got this fixed?

I have the same problem with combat control (and have used the "slight workaround" described above. I haven't figured out a way to fix this yet (however in previous versions of OS X I was able to play fine ( I installed the game using a non-downloaded version that time....). However When playing with either of the two versions avaiable to DL, I get the CC problem..
From what i've concluded about the patch so far..
The Update (1.02a) was intended for the FO2 OSX that came in a folder...as opposed to the compressed version (aka the fallout head with two fingers) . I haven't tried playing with a legit copy of FO2 since then so i don't know if that will fix the problem..

Needless to say, you haven't been playing any non-legit copies either.

I suppose... I just don't have a better explanation for how it worked fine earlier...and now I can't use one of the crucial functions of the game (well... the one that makes NPC's useful...which is the biggest improvement from FO2 [second to 'Take All'])
btw ur guide rules Per

I've got the exact same problem on patch 1.02 and on the initial install version, although I was attributing it to my hardware; I'm running this on a 15" Macbook Pro.

I can easily understand this being an issue because of Rosetta running the PPC code on an Intel chip, do we have any 10.4 (Tiger) users running PPC chips that have this issue?

Also, someone mentioned that waiting an extremely long time resulted in the screen appearing...how long?
It'd be worth a 15min wait to just get armor on Sulik

No, my PPC iBook runs it without problems...

I'm having the same problem, too, and it's remarkably frustrating. I've even installed it on an old PPC iBook I have and still can't get it to work.

I've opened up the Fallout 2 package in OS X and checked out the interface file... Interface Builder says there are several inconsistencies, but I'm not confident enough in my skills with IB to tell what these inconsistencies are, much less know if they're the ones contributing to the bug.

Anyone hear from MacPlay recently? They seem to be ignoring my e-mails and I can't get their phone number.

So has anyone got a solution? I tried downloading and installing the 1.02a update but no joy.

Is there any way us mac os x.4 users can enjoy Fallout? I need my characters to strap on the good armour... I need my heavily armoured pack-horses to carry all my gear and distract enemy fire!

I own Fallout 2 for my PC but since I crossed over to Mac, the only version I have is the DL.

Is there another torrent I can use? One that works fine? I read on another forum (sorry I can't remember exactly) a person who offered to seed their own copy of Fallout 2 which worked fine on a mac os x.4, only Demonoid wouldn't let me register so I couldn't download it as it was an older torrent (it was still being seeded by a few people too)

I've just paid Metzger off for Vic and I dearly want to strap them up so I can really use Sulik and Vic to their full potential. It's my 3rd play through and I want to do it right....

Is there no fix, or patch, or fully working torrent anywhere?

:(

And there you go, strike one for warez talk, strike two for expecting us to help you with an *illegal* copy of a game.

Go buy the game for fuck's sake.

I already own it on PC, first and the second. I admit I was too desperate to wait to get it for my mac and I found a download for it.

It seems the legitimate copy has the same issues because I'm sure everyone else posting here is using legitimate copies, otherwise you would have unleashed your asshole power on someone much earlier. So is it even worth me buying it, if it won't fix the problem?

Believe me, I'd rather own it than have a download. I've actually bought it twice for the PC, because I sold my copy second hand but then I missed it too much.

But I'm kinda glad I got the torrent first, otherwise I could have thrown my money away...

Anyway, night all, maybe I'll read some more in the morning?

Either helpful suggestions or more people wanting to kick my ass... probably the latter :-)

Anyways, sorry for being so blatant with the illegal download thing. I really really want to buy the game (having trouble finding a UK outlet for the mac version, if anyone has any suggestions).

Either way, I am going to buy this game at my soonest convenience. And if that solves the combat control problem, then great, I deserve the inconvenience for taking shortcuts in getting the game. If it doesn't... well damn, there must be a workaround for it somewhere, right?

Thanks for your time guys, read you soon.
