Command and Conquer Generals

Commander Elite

First time out of the vault
I was a bit dissapointed with this game. When i bought it i found out you could play as the Arabs and they have suicide bombers, rebels etc..

One thing i didn't like was the fact that you couldn't take hostages.
That would be great if they included that in the game.

I think they ridiculed the Arabs in that game by not alowing them beheaded anyone. The Americans had all the advantages with their planes and such so the bombers and rebels were crucial to win.

However it would be good to see some soldiers (on both sides) desert their side and convert to the other side.

An example would be if they allowed kidnappings and beheadings it would lower the morale of the Americans and some would desert and joining the Arabs and make your army alot stronger.

Are there any other war game out there at the moment where you can play as the Arabic forces?

People's General is a pretty good TB strategy game. You can have forces from all over the world in that.

if you want a good RTS that still holds up today...

Dark Reign and the 2nd one...

both have good game-play and the AI is actually very good.

WTF? "kidnappings and beheadings"? It's a war game, not a terrorism simulation. :!:

Kidnapping and beheading (execution) has been used in warfare around the world for millennia by all kinds of governments and armies.

GLA is the best army, if you know how to use it. And with the Zero Hour Expansion they get even better.

It serves no military purpose, so I don't see why it should/could be in a war simulation/strategy game, in which taking prisoners isn't even possible.

While being fun in the respect that you get to play as the..."evil arabs" with their Datsun trucks armed with machine guns and kamikazes and all that, other than that the game completely dissapointed me.

It just didn't feel like playing a Command and Conquer game. The fact that there are absolutely no video briefings whatsoever cotribute to this.

Where are the brilliant cutscenes that characterized all previous C&C games (even the...mediocre Tiberian Sun had extremely well-done video cutscenes and briefings)? With the absence of the tension-building briefings and the really shallow mission plots ("go there, kill that", then "return to base, kill whoever attacked while you were away", "then nuke the evil capitalists". The end. Hurrah!). Even when finishing a faction's campaign I got an extremely indifferent feeling ("Hurrah. The world has been Nuked...") as opposed to C&C games like the original Red Alert, where for example I actually could feel that Greek general's anger when the supreme commander mentions "yes, we have lost Greece..."

The fact that briefings are all done using the in-game engine just increases my theory that the production budget of the whole game was intended to be radically lower than previous C&C games.

And the rant goes on and on and on and on and

i never really got into the C&C:G (although i loved dune, c&c1 & ra1)
there was something lacking...

dark reign 1 was (for me) the most enjoyable RTS ever. they seriously fucked up with DR2 imo though...

I think Generals is a nice game on it's own, but it doesn't deserve the Command & Conquer in front of it...
It's just not C&C anymore...

Besides that, the game is cool...
Although the best strategy for the Americans is very similar to the Allied strategy in RA2...
Just make sure no one can get in your base (place lots a defensive thingys) and then build a ridiculously large airforce.

Its a good game, but its soo not C&C.
It was wrong of EA to call it that.
I bet they just did it to try and trick people into buying it.

Uhm, Soviet had the airforce in RA (Allies only had choppers), so in your example it should be "build a ridiculously large navy" (or lots of tanks, if there isn't any water).

Erm... he was talking Red Alert TWO and in that one... it was the allies with the planes :)

Pause DR2 in the middle of a huge battle and rotate the camera around and tell me you don't cream your pants the first time you do it.

I agree. Its fun, but I would have rather have seen them make a new actual Command Conquer.
