Daggerfall - Free Download

Wow finally, not that I need it since I still have my copy. But now days it was hard to find, this will solve that problem.
Alec few tips if you do get it, in first play through explore the world and ignore MQ. Second when making your char use the background option where it asks you questions about past and one of the choices there should be Ebony Dagger. Take that and you can kill most magical things until better stuff starts showing up.
3rd cart and teleport spells are your friend in dungeons.

Average Bethesda fanboi reactions after acquiring the game:

#1: "omg jesus I'm blind, look at all those pixels, this is, like, soooo last millennium"

#2: "where the hell is the compass? how am I supposed to leave this dungeon?"

#3, when/if he manages to leave Privateer's Hold: "now what the hell am I supposed to do?"

#4: "NO FULL-VOICE-ACTING????"

#5: "I CAN'T JOIN THE THIEVES GUILD AND THE DARK BROTHERHOOD IN THE SAME PLAYTHROUGH?????"

#6: *uninstalls, installs Oblivion*

Despite it being quite dated and buggy, it is the greatest thing the Elder Scrolls series has to offer IMO. I was privileged enough to buy it back in 1996 and still play it every once in a while via dosbox.

lol...., the memories.

1. Do not go to the capital at the beginning. IIRC, something really bad will happen to you at night. :P

2. Find the nearest magic guild and make a cheap 20 g open spell. It'll open just about everything in the game.

3. I would recommend getting a mod that let you switch locations in the dungeons. If you get trapped..., it's not a pleasant experience.

4. Main Quest is quite buggy and complicated, so it's not meant for the weak of heart.

5. Broken collusion physics for the win! If you are desperate and getting beat up, get a bow and hide behind a wall/door. Your arrows/strikes will magically hit the target behind them.

6. Don't level up too fast. Level 3, 5, and 8 ( I think) will trigger main quest lines. The dungeon for the lvl 3 main quest line can be quite a dozy if you don't stick to a very safe route. And try not to attack any lich lords while you are there, you won't win. :P

7. Never go with a pre-set class unless you don't feel like wearing any plate.

8. IIRC, you have only one shot at most of the important quests, if you fail, there is no recourse. Save and Load is your best friend.

9. When you can afford it, get a horse/cart as soon as you can..., walking really stinks.

10. Boat > house. When you are rich enough to need a place to stash all your hard earned loot, get a boat before a house.

Can't you download it elsewhere now that it's freeware?
depends on the conditions put on the release by Bethesda.
you shouldn't assume it's up for grabs.

that said, i read that the release was based on id's terms for releasing Q3, which would mean it's ok iirc.

Great game.

Although, I liked Morrowind better.

Hard to believe that Beth actually made good, deep RPG's at one point.

Don't worry rcorporon, they fired that Beth and we now have the lovey wuggy Zeni Beth that we know and love.
None of those nasty deep confusing RGPs anymore.
:V

Hmm wonder how to make this game centered on my screen, a quarter of it is off.

I'm glad that they've moved on.

All that reading, and stat checking, and walking, and reading. Hell, not even a "quest compass" so I actually had to EXPLORE the game!!

Sheesh.

Yeah, but one thing annoyed me the quest journal wasn't perfect. I always had to write down the town/dungeon names where the quest led. Why because I couldn't remember all the names while searching for dungeons to set up nav point. Bit off topic wonder if the nude temple maidens, wenches and witches are in that version. Thought it was very bold and mature at that time.
Anyway people who have played Daggerfall and are playing it again, I suggest Andyfall mod. http://www.svatopluk.com/daggerfall/mods/andyfall.stm

Usually happens to my monitor the first time it tries a resolution it's not used to, you should be able to fix it by adjusting your monitor (I usually start with auto-adjust and tweek if I need to). I have no clue if that's not it.

Ah, Daggerfall, my first RPG. I have fond memories of this game, in fact I still play it sometimes when I get the urge.

Recall spell is a must. Getting lost in randomly generated dungeons is no fun.

I always make a custom class, a Werewolf class, because I thats how I roll. Meet up with a werewolf at level 4, let it scratch you up, and bam, you gots +40 on Strength, Speed, Agility and Endurance, +30 Hand-to-hand, Climbing, Running, Stealth, Swimming and Critical Strike, and the urge to hunt the innocent. But I usually do the quest for Hircine so I don't need to hunt to keep living. Then I focus on building my magic skills. Thats my character, a werewolf mage warrior. :D

Tried to do the main quest, but got stuck and pissed off a few regions in the process (the entire region of Wayrest won't talk to me, its so refreshing to see your actions actually have some consequences).

Best Elder Scrolls game, in my opinion. I only played Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion, though. Thought Oblivion would be like Daggerfall but I was mistaken. Couldn't even make my Daggerfall character in Oblivion, since they took out some of the skills I used and the whole werewolf thing. :x Oh well.

Still got the original disk, so I don't have to wait for it to download. :)

Memories... I remember playing ES 1 at my buddies, and not enjoying it much. However, by the time ES2 came out, I was more into RPG's, and loved it.

Morrowind blew my socks off. Still does, in terms of the land and exploring.

Good times, for sure.

This is great!
First Arena Freeware now Daggerfall Freeware!
BTW I actually sold my copy of Daggerfall with the box and Prima Strategy Guide for $90 5 years ago!
I still have another copy of the game lying around somewhere.

Gosh I soo hope Beth puts Terminator Future Shock/Skynet up for freeware also!!!

What ever happened to Battlespire???

These were my first two games back in 1997. Both were way before thier time!

Wow I need to hang in this section more often, alot of old school gamers here also!

I'm currently playing an Argonian swordmaster/mage type (I don't remember what I called the custom class). I took Stealth, Dodge, and Illusion as my primary skills and Long Blade, Destruction, and something else as my majors. I gave up iron, dwarven, plate armor, and tower shields so I could have x3 magicka and immunity to disease. Oh, and my magic only works in the dark.

The game definitely has it's charms. :)
