Death Hand?

Bob

First time out of the vault
I am Death-Hand! (?)

I seem to find something new everytime I play this game..

so this time I went to the Raiders camp without Tandi and apparently the vault dweller looks like Garl's father "Death-Hand"? It seemed weird to me because the raiders were all filling up the screen with dialog and the text was a different color. Is there anything to this?? This is the only time I found mention of it in game.

If you wear a metal armour, I believe, when you walk into the Raider camp, people will think you're the father of the leader, Garl.

If you talk to him, he'll give you Tandi for free.

Taken from Per's guide:

If your character is male with a LK of 9 or more there's a 50% chance (determined when you first arrive here) that the raiders will think you're Garl's father. You won't be able to talk to anyone but Garl; if you talk to him, it'll end in combat unless you have the quest to free Tandi, in which case he'll let you take her. I don't think there's any more to be gained from this.

Strange, I believe the metal armour is involved somehow as well, perhaps the metal armour works as well as the Luck roll...

Someone should try it.

I remember that the leather jacket has something to do with it.

Nah, 'cause I was wearing that every time I did the Tandi quest ('cause I'd go Shady Sands-Vault 15-back to Shady Sands-Raiders)

Yes, same here, Kharn.

Ya know, I am going to start a new game with 9 LUCK so I can get the Alien Blaster, so I will try and see if I can do this.

Mohrg

I'm running around in my Vault suit and it's still working. My luck is 10, so I'm guessing that's what is causing it.

And I read some faq which said a combat armor would give you this.
(never tested it anyway)

lol

anyway, a week or so ago, I was playing Fallout and I had the exact same thing happening to my character. he had 9 LUCK and was wearing leather armour, so I don't think you need to wear metal armour to trigger this Death Hand scenario.

did Per make a fallout 1 walktrough aswell ?
Where can i find it ?

I think wearing metal armor always active the Death Hand part
i will check this later.

well I tried talking to the raider leader in metal armor but he didnt see me as his father.

My luck was really low tho. only 2

Logical assumption: armor has nothing to do with whether or not you are recognized as Death Hand.

you would think that way huh...

how would we got that metal armor idea anyways....

I have the offical guide book for FO 1 and 2. I think I got the info outta that. Also I got the death hand thingy before but I cant remember ever playing an high luck character in fallout 1

Maybe it was before the patch ? I never played the patched fallout
Now im going to find my fallout book and take a look in it, if it mentions the metal armor

I just did the tandi quest and I wore combat armor and got tandi for free. so I returned her and was a little bored so I ended up going back and killing all the raiders anyway

Since I never had had any special random encounters on fallout 1 before, I tried with a new character, a guy with 10 luck, outdoorsman, blah, blah. so I got four specials, the giant footprint, the nuka cola truck(WOW 10000 BUCKS) Bob's car mart, and the fone box. now, after that (as I just had found the red ryder LE BB gun) I decided to got to the Khans and do some target practice. Funny thing was that when I got there, everyone moved away from me, saying stuff like: "The Death hand!" "He's back, the Death Hand is back"
so I talked to Garl and he said: "I killed you"
then I got some choices, took one, then after some lines, he said i was his father, blah, blah...and I stand with one simple question: HUH?!

yeah i had that a couple of times too (only in the american version though, never had it in the UK version)

it doesnt seem to have anything to do with clothing or something (once came back later with combatarmor and once just immediatly went there with leather armor)

the only 'special' thing i remember is having some stat up to 10 (i think stength or endurance, cant recall)

(and being male of course since you are supposed to be some guys murdered father...)
