It Wandered In From the Wastes

It's going to be a prequel, here an interesting blurb:

Perhaps controversially this time around combat won't be influenced by stats, but will rely purely on your personal marksmanship skills. Instead stats will influence "a vast array of fully upgradeable and customisable weapons", and you'll be able to tailor your arsenal to your play style with mag upgrades, scopes and other add-ons.

What's more, stealth will now rely on a cover system rather than shadows, and damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal. There's probably going to be some debate over those two.

Sounds like they're turning it into a generic shooter...

well, Deus Ex is probably one of the few games where auto-heal would make sense tbh. a prime use of nano-bots.

but anyhow, i'm not really expecting anything out of this game.

Another case of "game evolution" where everything gets sparkled-up and dumbed-down for the console crowd... at least there are experience points :| but it's looking like yet another "all style no substance" pile of glossy crap.

Maybe they'll redeem it somewhat with an awesome storyline? Preferably one that doesn't allow you to receive all the possible endings right in the last level regardless of how you played the game.

Also, auto-heal needs to die. It totally destroys the awesome tension of running around going "oh crap where's some health".

Auto heal without a reasonable reason, twitch gameplay other than stat, are the main reason why today's games are bunch of POS.

What the frack is wrong with so many in the gaming industry? When did they prescribe to the saying, "If it doesn't work, try, try, try, try-try again."?

I have recently played Deus Ex again after a few years. The game, released in 2000, wouldn't have survived current 9/11 censorship. The first part of it is not a game, it's a description of our reality - you can't make such product anymore. Mindless shooters are better - with them, you don't even have to consider that people may think.

damn, that's disappointing.

it's not like I had very high hopes for this considering what happened with Invisible War. but that quote almost sounds like a bad joke. could have just as easily said "just so you know, this will be a straight shooter, nothing in the way of rpg elements here".

I hope they take some steps back and look at the mistakes in Invisible War. I mean come on, only one type of ammo? That just dumbs down so much of the game. And concerning the auto heal, you could get that in deus ex, but it was an augmentation you found near the end, and cost a large amount of energy. If there is auto heal in D3, it better come with similar costs.

I really would love to have a great Deus Ex 3, but after the last few years and the current trend... I wouldn't be surprised if it will suck. To get on the same level as Deus Ex.. I don't think, that this will be possible.

*Sigh*

Your absolutely right. Knowing Deus Ex, I wouldn't be surprised that a few people behind the scenes already know of the games existence.

Sounds like I need to put tin-foil on my head, but If you've been around the block in the political climate even alittle, you it smells of smoke, and hidden fire.

Yeah except Bioshock was just the spiritual successor of SS2, while Deus Ex 3 is the direct sequel, kinda reminds me of a similar game that could have been a spin off or a spiritual successor, but became a direct sequel, with a completely different twist on game play.

What the fuck?

Is the game industry self parodying itself?

Maybe they will turn Deus ex on a satire on all that is mediocore in games, yeah that's right. Autoheals? It's a satire of...Halo, cover system? It's just parodying Gears of war. Yeah.

Prequels? George lucas.

Yeah...that's right, deus ex 3 is a satire on the banality of modern games.

Nah, I think Army of Two was the closest thing to a satire of modern games, though it wasn't designed that way.

This is just, you know, banal.

This kind of thing is depressing. I can't remember playing a single game post 2000 that isn't dumbed down.

And from the looks of it, gaming will never recover.

There've been a couple good games that came out, but they've never gotten the kind of attention the ultra dumbed-down games like call of duty 4 get.

Dammit, this kind of crap never ceases to annoy me, a great game gets a crappy sequel or two that's dumbed-down for the masses that ends up tarnishing the name of a great title.

Augh, WHY?!?!
