... thought of a Fallout 2 modding jam?

Like, there is one weekend in which people are creating Fallout 2 mods and then they get released after the time has ended. I am not talking about a huge total conversion, but something small. Something you can do in only two days. This could be anything that is possible to be done in the game, like a small quest, a puzzle game, something with totally different gameplay (as much as it is possible in Fo2), etc.

I thought it might be a fun thing to do and it would also spawn a few mini-mods into the world.

What are peoples thoughts? It could even involve a contest with prize of some sorts. We do have quite a few Fallout modders around here so it wouldn't be a thing of two people only. Of course, only if everyone is kicking in...

Not the worst idea in the world. This has been very sucessful for thief 1 / 2 over the years.

However, I think it would need to be minimum of a week. Very little decent quality work could be done over two days.

Well, the point of it isn't to create some big quality stuff with hours of playtime, but something new.

Additionally, it would stop being a modding jam, if it is running over a longer time period.

I'll make a wooden spoon, everyone needs a spoon to eat. Someone will need to script it so it becomes a talking NPC. :P

I'll do it! :P

Interesting idea, Lexx. It's always cool to me how popular '__ jams' are for you Euros. Coding jams, gaming jams, hacker jams, etc. Such events like Assembly (big Euro demo party, ignoring the gaming aspect of it of course) come to mind. This stuff just doesn't really happen here in the US.

But yeah, I agree that it needs to be only a few days in length, any longer and it just becomes an on and off again pass time. You gotta go straight through with it.

I don't know though, maybe a few years ago I'd be all over this. Perhaps another long period of time away from Fallout will help.

I find it fun, because for these few days you are concentrating on nothing else but the thing you are working on. And you always (well, most likely) finish something.

It feels good / is a motivation boost to get something done. Especially if people like your idea. It doesn't matter that it isn't 100% polished, because thats not what the jam is for.

I created a game in 7 days a few months back and it was a great experiencel. Though, I had no opponent and the time frame was too short for a longer game and too long for a short game, which was a big problem, imo. Yet I would like to do such a thing again.
