Don't Fear the Reaper (Acoustic)

It Wandered In From the Wastes
This is my acoustic rendition of Don't Fear the Reaper. Before you comment, yes I know my singing is pretty bad, but I figured it would be worse without anyoone singing at all. As for the multiple attempts, I've convinced myself attempt 2 is better. If you feel like it, just skip ahead to attempt 2 halfway through the video.

Again, I apologize for my singing.

I'm on a modem here. I watched and listened to attempt 1.

I can't really say that it was special in any way. It is a great song, performed by a great band and one of my all time favorite tunes, so it is hard to beat to begin with. You did better than I would have so that's good. But keep practising. That's what I would have done.

Your singing is terrible  But ive heard worse. Your better than me at the gutair. which is good. but i suck at gutair so that isnt saying much

keep up the good work

Did you need to worry about the volume of your attempt or something? Because you were playing really softly. And that detracted a lot from your playing. The notes were all correct, but there was no conviction, or fire behind it.

Also, you seem to have some problems with tempo, specifically in the beginning. Try practicing with a metronome.

Other than that, well played.

The singing was a bit soft and unsure at times too. Try opening your throat, project and sing stronger. I don't play guitar myself, but it seemed alright.

Music which is out of time and out of tune is painful, but one can master it.

Excellent song!

I agree with the comments here. It sounds like you have a bit of stagefright, which is not at all unusual. Uploading videos of your playing on youtube is actually a great thing, because you have an audience in a sense (though obviously a bit different than a live gig).
It also enables you to really listen to yourself and how you sound. It's hard to get a sense of how one really sounds when playing at the same time, so it's a great thing to record yourself.

But like Sander said, be sure to practice with a metronome (there are free ones on the net you can use).
And yeah, just practice, practice, practice. The more you know the song, the more confidence you will get. Practice it, and try recording yourself in a couple of months or something. Listen back, and see where you have improved and where you need more practice.

Also, try practicing the song with a plectrum. It might be hard to get used to if you haven't played a lot with a plectrum before (especially the riff), but once you're comfortable with it you'll be able to get the song to rock a bit more.

Ever since you got hit by that laser at that Blue Oyster Cult Show you've been acting like a pussy!

Actually I use a pick (plectrum) way more often then fingerstyle. I just liked the sound better on the acoustic with the fingers. I generally play alot more electric guitar, and use a pick for almost everything I play.

[EDIT]
I also mellowed it out to better suit having one singer and one guitar. Sometime in the future me and my friends want to put a band together. No doubt we'll do a full on cover of Reaper then.

That's from "The Stoned Age" isn't it? Never seen it but I know the reference for some obscure, wikipedia-related reason.
