Doom 4 anyone?!

Some leaked screenshots from a- supposedly cancelled -Doom 4 project. Bethesda however, has not commented on the screenshots and responded that Doom 4 is not cancelled.

Hmmm, looks pretty nifty:

I think I read about this, anyway, there's a Doom billboard in there. But there's also a McDonalds sign, so it could be the Hamburglar game too.

They never denied that these are Doom 4 screens though. Bethesda just said that it's not cancelled and Id gave a very vague statement, saying that they have nothing to do with the finished game supposedly. I'd say they are legit.

Nice product placement, I'm Lovin' It.

These leaked images only reveal that id is using id tech5 (not really a surprise) and that they are going to use the "hell on earth" setting which reminds me a lot of Half-Life 2 for some reason.

I need to see enemies, weapons and gameplay mechanics before (not) getting excited.

Here's hoping the men and women at id took a long hard look at their 90's masterpieces in order to avoid churning out another mediocre, bland "modern" FPS.

Doesn't give much hopes. Doom 3 was a remake of the first Doom - so Doom 4 will be a remake of the second? And then what? Reboot the series?

Also, looking at their 90s masterpieces won't help, not one bit. If they make something similar, it will be a mediocre, bland first person shooter. They need to take a step further. Perhaps 3D graphics and virtual reality...

You played the roll of a marine and you killed hellspawn, that's where the similarities ended IMO.

I'm not going to list the differences between 90's FPS and modern popamole FPS because that has been done to death. I think it's suffice to say there are many gamers longing for a decent FPS.

I agree. I'm one of them.

This is where one should mention: SS:BFE FTW! If you haven't played it, you have no right to whine :P

Have you played any shooters for the past ten years other than than Modern Warfare?

Yes I have, why? Serious Sam, Painkiller and Hard Reset were pretty good but still far from Doom, Quake, Sin, etc.

Poor Poor Doom. It looks like my favorite game of all time, the original mainstream giant, still can't escape the clutches of modernization. All I want is some good graphics, classic map design, the 9 classic weapons, and a horde of demons to point those guns at. That's all Doom needs. Give the modders some tools, and you can expect a PC hit. Except this game will probably be yet another console focused piece of shit.

^ I haven't played a FPS that I liked since Halflife 2. Serious Sam isn't for me.

@PainlessDocM - Thanks for the link to Errant Signal, that guy seems to know his stuff... 8-)

Yea he's great, some of his stuff on Half Life was a bit iffy but at least he argued it well. :P

This is, no doubt, the nostalgia in you speaking. If you, like me, grew up on SS:SE, you'd be all over it. IMO, the "good" new shooters are no worse than the oldies, but they lack the "omg I played this as a kid" factor which varies from person to person.
