Dragon Age? What the hell happened to you?

Wait, so it's not point-and-click like Baldur's Gate? How is that going to work on consoles?

KOTOR was point and click on PC but targeting on consoles....

Maybe this will be similar?

I don't know though...

Well, if it ain't a bloody orgy than I don't know how to call it. Still, it's good depsite the jumping-like-a-rabbit-in leather-armor-killing-everyone parts.

no blood orgy ala Manson this time

Maybe you should post the link for the video you were watching, then. I'm thinking the body count for this one must be about 50.

Seriously, though, between these shitty trailers and what sounds like a dodgy DLC scheme, I think I'll pass on this game.

The numbers of slain enemy's isn't really relevant imo, its not a "look how much gore this game have" kind of trailer.

Any who, imo this is one of the best trailers in years. Really well made. Warhammer MoC had some nice ones also and so did DOW 2.

It's like a fucking crappy movie trailer...

And... when I read Marilyn Manson on the thread, I thought that this was a montage of the clip plus some nerd's stupid song... but am I blind, or did they, Bioware themselves, put it on the video? Am I going to hear Marilyn fucking Manson on my stereo if I run this game here? What happened to good ole symphonic orchestras?!

How can anyone call this market they aim for hardcore? They're nothing but casual gamers who want their games as watered down as their crappy hollywood movies.

Rat God have them all.

Somewhat cheesy but alright I guess.

There came a point where CGI stopped impressing me. Maybe that point came when actual games started looking almost like the CGI movies. Since then on, I don't get the point of CGI trailers.

Still undecided on this game.

Apparently the game allows you to follow up on a homosexual romance, among others.

The Dragon Age: Origins news story is going to be awesome. Never mind that the game doesn't get much more explicit than two people in bikinis, hugging it out (and that's only after you've played for dozens of hours) -- you can go to a brothel! Have a male homosexual relationship with an elf! Get it on with a transsexual dwarf! The dwarf's on the burqa end of the clothed spectrum, mind you, and does nothing more than stand in the general vicinity of a bed -- but you know Fox News is going take off running with that.

Nothing spells "DARK, GRITTY AND MATURE" or "DARK FANTASY EPIC" like bangin' a bro. Or a He-Elf. Or a....transsexual dwarf, was it?

This just keeps getting better and better.

Trailer wasn't bad.

However, when are movie/game developers going to get over the tired cliche of untouchable heroes against seemingly worthless hordes of enemies. The heroes fighting enemies that can actually hold their own in a fight would be much more interesting. Even the dragon was incompetent and rather wussy.

Not to add some rain to your piss parade, but:

Bioware already HAS the Baldur's Gate market locked up. They don't need to advertise their awesome story or dialogue to make it sell to the RPG crowd, cuz they've (me included) already placed their orders.

What they DO need to advertise to is the twitch maniac diabetic XBox and Ritalin junkies.

Which is what these trailers do.

Funny thing is, when watching Warden's Quest (Teams of players competing to beat the early game), the teams wiped. All the time. Against the "boss battles" in particular. Hell, Team France couldn't even BEAT an instance, and got eliminated from the tourney after being stuck for 3 hours, and this was on Normal.

Don't know how solid this is, but anyway;

http://ramraider.blogspot.com/2009/11/ea-offer-to-remove-dragon-age-embargo.html

I don't much doubt that the game is decent enough, and I don't know wether it is or isn't worth a 9/10 score, but these kind of deals gives me a sour taste in my mouth.

Edit; Was just informed by an employee of the Swedish PCGamer magazine that the embargo was for online publications, and that printed papers had an earlier embargo.

EA demonstrates once again why its poor reputation is well-earned.

Though I'm sure they're not the only publisher to pull that kind of crap.

Lol
Sad. I can't believe this are the same fuckwits that gave Fallout 3 perfect scores, and they balk over ballparking one of the coolest RPG's I've seen in a long time.

Scummy move on EA, but not nearly so scummy as the ball gargling these mags did for Bethesda.

Dude, almost EVERY publisher does emargoes on reviews nowadays.....not just EA....

Review embargoes arent a bad thing; they dont mean that a game will be bad....its just a way for publishers to build hype by only letting reviews be shown around the release date....

What are you talking about? Almost all the reviews I have seen for this game have been overwhelmingly positive...

The bad thing isn't really limiting the timespan during which journalists can report (though that's slightly iffy), it's bribing journalists to get good reviews.

I'd say that that's more on the journalists than the company, but whatever way you look at it, it's a form of advertisement in place of supposedly neutral reviews.

...
Well, yes. They're required to give the game a 9 before being allowed to publish anything on the game. Of course any review you see is going to be positive, 'cause the negative ones don't come into existence.

Also, I don't know if you've noticed, but video game journalism hasn't been critical for years now. They continually fall for and perpetuate hype and ignore gigantic flaws. This is a structural problem.

In other words: good reviews don't mean shit.

On Gamersglobal.de is a more critical review. The game still got a 9.0, but flaws are named too, which are as example way too linear levels. Really, really linear levels.
Also there is a shitload of combat. You shouldn't be surprised, if you have combat 3/4 of the game. Balance shouldn't be very good too.. like magic is uber strong in some cases and the way you start the game (with healing magic or without) has a very hard influence on the combat difficult in the beginning, NPCs don't react on stealing and do nothing else than standing around on fixed positions in the world, etc. etc.
