Eldridge is hostile - can I fix this? (F2 restoration patch)

Eldridge is hostile to me in Fallout 2, and I don't know why. I'd like to fix this, and since I don't have a save that would let me do this without replaying hours, I'd like to know if there's a way to fix it with a save editor or hex editor.

I'm playing the restoration patch.

Anyway - Eldridge is a pain so just waste the dude, then collect his goodies.

Most likely you entered the shop from the front after dark, and he hates that. The best way is to lock-pick the back door and enter the shops basement during the day, and just ignore the barking dogs. But know this, the dogs can turn hostile if you hang around too long.
 
Aw... I could just kill him, but I wanted to see how he'd react to my new Made Man status.

I had this same problem that seemed to happen out of nowhere. If I remember right, Eldridge's dogs are supposed to go hostile if they detect you entering the shop at night when Eldridge is in the back room. They may not initiate combat immediately, and in that event you'll miss the fact that they are in fact hostile. Once they turn hostile, Eldridge will turn hostile too. As far as I know, there's no way to fix this internally or externally.

Anyhow,
Eldridge will offer you access to his 'special stock' if you're a Made Man, but if you kill him the stock will appear on his corpse anyway.
 
you have probabaly already killed Eldrige but FSE can edit local variables,eldrige map is newr3.sav in fse,local var 4 in his script (named ncEldrid) controls if he is hostile,set it to 0 will prolly make him normal,would also maybe have to mess with his dog's script var's (named ncEldDog) and the var for that one is 0,again setting to 0 is prolly good enough

I got the message that FSE is an outdated tool and that I should use the Sfall Script Editor. I tried to edit the file newr3.sav but Sfall does not seem to be able to open it. Anything I missed or is Sfall editor simply not the right tool to edit the newr3.sav file?
