My thoughts? It seems like a regular fps, not that it doesnt have its perks but it doesnt seem like a HL2 or a D3 from the demo. Its sorta like The Grudge + The Ring + Guns + Bullet Time. It does look great however though you'll need a serious system to really get the best of the best. It is creepy though but not the continuous jump fest that was D3. I suggest to anyone to check this out.

I think it will be 0.4 times what Doom 3 was. Kina scary, trying to be Doom 3, but just won't do it as well.

However, with a game that is supposed to be scary, you can't know exactly what it will be like until you play it yourself with all the lights off at 2am in your basement. It doesn’t matter how many trailers you watch, you have to play it to know what it will be remotely like with this type of game.

True, but what I felt was that it is going to be more of a unerving and sense of wrongess coupled with creepy girl shots with some jump scenes. I just dont think it will center around jump scenes as much as D3 did.

Judging from the demo, i'd say this tops Doom 3.
Less monsters jumping through windows, more supernatural weirdness. And the fighting is great fun, a la Max Payne. It's possible to bicycle-kick people in the face in slow-motion :D

Nothing new though, just a nifty shooter.

Tried it today, nothing special, AI of soldiers is a sham, its scripted like hell, the second of the first two guards just must jump through the window, even if it means going around through the door then runing and jumping out of the window stupidly while you pump his ass full of lead.
Played it on Hard.

Its maybe good to laugh at how its not scary.

It looks like they have a lot of work ahead still, graphicly its not anything special, they did manage to get guns right, although they feel as guns in Far Cry only somewhat better.

I have just seen the worst water ever i think. Its undescribable.

Its just not scary in that interesting way. Sure it can make you jump but so can i and nobody is telling me im the next revolution in anything.

Another "AI" example..... you charge into a room, first three soldiers come out...you take them out, then proceed further only to be surprised by two more. Now first time i played it i started running to the first one planing to jump up and blast im right in the head from above.
Right as i was jumping towards him he pulls a shelve from the wall and throws it across my way.... i stuck stupidly and they fill me with holes.

I was like -wow.... did you see that guy, he totaly screwed me!!

Then i reload.... looking forward what they will do next..... i take out first three again but then i take a few steps forward and start going back.

Guess what happened? The same guy comes to the shelf and while im pumping him full of lead from far away he grabs the shelve and throws it the same way again although i was at the other end of the room.

I was like...rriiiggghhht..... alright.....

And i didnt like DOOM 3 either. Bloody boring.

i wouldnt be so negative as Sina.

as far as FPS's go, it's far from being bad.

it's pretty rough around the edges, no doubt about that. but there are some good things.

the atmosphere is way better than Doom3 ever was. at least in the movie no predictable cheap "haha i just spawned a zombie behind you while you werent looking"-thrills. the "spooky" sequences might not be something that scare you, but at least they are good in setting the mood in a "Max Payne meets Vtm: Bloodlines" kinda way.

the combat itself is fairly good, althoug the slowmo seems pretty cheap to me (you can use it way too often). the weapons (which obviously they put too many of them in the demo, just to show them off. dont expect them to drop so fast in retail.) are pretty good. while many of you will resort to spraying, it is a lot easier if you take a more 'real world GIGN: 1 shot, 1 kill'-approach. almost all enemies go down with a single shot or single burst to the head (as they should, unlike many shooters).

the animation of the enemies is pretty much a big success imo. their movements are polished & look at least believable.

there are some anomalies in the AI. that is not only due to scripted events. you can for instance instagib the first soldier you encounter with a pistol headshot (he will actually gib when you do that, splatter all across the room, i wonder what that is all about), while the guard standing in the room next to it WILL NOT react to the single shot fired (and the blood splattering all across the room). if the pistol had been silenced, then maybe i could live with it.
on the other hand, the AI will react to your flashlight. if you shine into a room without entering, the enemy will warn his friends (maybe even lob a nice lil' grenade your way).

graphically, it's pretty stunning (at least it looks fucking sweet on my pc). the water might not look like water (i dont understand why all games want to turn water into quicksilver mirrors), but i guess that aint the end of the world. smoke, animations & environment are rendered pretty well, although stuff like grass or vegitation suck (but hey, this seems to be an indoor event, who gives a damn).

the story itself might be a bit flimsy, but interesting to say the least. i really want to know what that girl has to do with it. some poltergeist ripoff perhaps?

all in all, i look forward to the release. it might not be everything might hope for, but it looks like it will at least be one of the best FPS games this year.

After The Grudge and The Ring, the mass audience knows that little girls with black hair=scary.

booooooo, whoever thinks D3 is scary are all weak little ninnies... There is no depth of actual -fear-

Mexicans were scary when I was 10
My car breaking down is a scary thought
Getting severely injured at work seems to bother my thoughts...

But eerie noises and stupid things popping out of no where is not all that scary, perhaps suprising, but not intimidating at all

Not at my computer, so I cant try this demo

I thought Doom 3 was scary. Did you put tin foil over you basement window so you room would be in complete darkness and play it that way with no lights on and the sound turned up?

i still think that the grudge is a movie without sense. Not a great horror movie at all.

In fact it was kind of bad.
Japanese horror combined with american money. No soul and at least annoying storyline.

*necromancy*

I bought this game a couple of days ago, it's great, even on my medium computer. The AI is still pretty smart, and has surprised me at times. They tend to try and outflank you. The close combat is supreme, like in Riddick. And the game is very, very bloody. You can shoot of body parts, which is kind of unexpected. Combat is already very challenging on normal, even with the bullet time. All in all, firefights and weapons are great.

It could have used more scares though. Not "boo" scares, like in American horror movies or Doom 3 (there are barely any of those anyway), but more of the creepy nature. It does happen a lot, but maybe not often enough. I haven't finished the game yet however, and I expect more creepy parts with the little girl involved. It's not hard to see what Monolith's Xbox 360 game "Condemned" is based on (they practically copied their own game and added a more complex close combat system, it seems).

I definitely recommend this game to any FPS fan. It's IMO much better than Doom 3. And it's long enough to keep you going for a while. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet though, but I suspect it's quite generic.

Yay, another FPS. *yawn*

I'm now replaying Dreamweb and Front Mission. When F.E.A.R. becomes half as good as either of those games, let me know.
