Fallout 1.5 Review and Critique

Hey dude, great video. I see you've been making Fallout videos for a while, will have to check those out.

I haven't played Fallout 1.5 since release, though I remember most of the major lore. I liked your review, especially putting it in the context of the timeline. You're discussion of where it falls in the timeline and how close it is to Fallout 1's timeline gave me a lot of newfound appreciation for things like the Mutant Hunters, and the remnants of the Unity scattered all over the world.

I think by viewing it through a lens of the title being literal to every aspect of the game, and it being an attempt to merge 1 and 2 in every way even lore-wise and thematically, you've uncovered a lot of interesting things to be discussed lore-wise, especially in regards to the Rebirth's goals being a synthesis of the Master and the Enclave.

Solid video and has given me a much greater appreciation of Fallout 1.5

Slight correction about the New Vegas amnesia thing: JESawyr has explicitly interpreted that the Amnesia thing is inaccurate to the designers intention. They never intended for the game to be read that way, and the seemingly basic questions solely exist to introduce new players to the intricacies in the world. The whole "Amnesia" idea originated with obsessive fans on lore subreddits saying "Well it's the only way we can explain the fact that the Courier can ask basic questions". It's not something the designers of the game take as canon.

Other than that, great job, and I look forward to future videos in the series, and when I have more free time, hope to watch your videos on Fallout 1 and 2.

I liked your review of this game and I agree with many of the positive points you made.
It is a shame this game lacked talking heads and voices but I don't think the game suffers under it.

Personally I would liked to have seen some more locations like perhaps Los Alamos and some more factions but that is just my wish for more content.

I always interpreted the Renewal as being heavily inspired by Van Buren's interpretation of Los Alamos, with the Ghouls having a Messianic Cult around a leader, hidden from the world, who claims to have overcome the limitations of being a Ghoul, as well as the future of Ghoul's and their long-term survival being contingent on causing mass amounts of suffering as they kidnap humans and conquer nearby towns.

I have the same feeling but from contact with a developer I understand Resurrection's storyline was really developed without the team knowing about the Reservation and its content.

It actually makes me interested in what it would have been like if both cults had been round, the Rebirth and the Children of the Wasteland.
One cult is about Ghouls becoming human again while the others is about Ghouls becoming the dominant species.

When I was talking with Hassknecht about the fan made Fallout PNP RPG I wanted to make this source module for New Mexico in which some elements of Resurrection would be taken into canon like the Empire, the Mutant Hunters, and the Rebirth.
A lot of Ghoul survivors from the Rebirth would eventually join the Children of the Wasteland cult.

Great video about an incredible mod.
I have an itch to replay it now.

If you want to do some other classic mod, you might want to give a try to Nevada and Last Hope.
