Fallout 1 and/or 2 Real-Time Mod(s)

FakeKisser

First time out of the vault
Has anyone ever created or thought about creating a mod for Fallout and/or Fallout 2 that would allow real-time combat like in Fallout Tactics or as used in the PC Baldur's Gate games? If there is one, can someone please post the web site where I could find it. Thank You.

...Laugh it up...Laugh it up...

It may be funny, but it's possible and would be really awesome.

heh
I don't think it is posible to script realtime combat in whole game, but you can make simple boxing or something like that  .

Both statements be incorrect..unless you have access to the source code of the game whereas at least they first would return TRUE.

I have no idea if its possible, but it would be cool.

Better yet, some1 make a fallout2 campaign for tactics.

It'd look dumb on the travel map screen, but itd be cool.

I mean how Navarro and San Fran are on the coast.

really, if anyone had the time, make FO2 in FO:T

It'd be fun, especily since U could control your team members then.

The image for the world map can be changed very easily, F02's world map fits very nicely though with Fallout's map you've got the green circles as part of the image, but that easily worked around.

Several people have made maps recreating areas of Fallout 1 & 2, mainly OTB, but someone else did a New Reno multiplayer and I think a few other people have done so as well. You could always start up the editors and make your own version of FO2 in FOT.

Thats the kicker. I can make maps for operation flashpoint, a FPS which has a high quality built in editor and LOTS of modding support from that other BIS Bohemia Interactive Studios which made it.
But I still havent figured out the FO:T editor.

Okay, so I started this post a year and a half ago. Everyone laughed at me, but isn't Troika's new game exactly what I was talking about?

Possibly, as far as I know, they have not stated whether or not it will be RT. Personally, I would hope not. If I wanted to play an "action" version of Fallout, I'd have bought FO:BOS.

RT Fallout, as evidenced by the replies in this thread, is not likely to be a popular idea.

On a side note, it's interesting to see Psycho being enthused about FOT. All you'll get out of him nowadays is a comment about it being "Craptics".

Well, that depends. Arcanum's character system was flawed because they also had to try and balance in RT alongside it. RT doesn't work well with systems designed for TB gameplay. The kludge mess of the Inbred Engine should be evident of that, and I really dislike the idea of combat becoming uninvolving as a Punch and Judy Show without any audience interaction.

Turning Fo1 or Fo2 into an RT or RT+Pause gaming style would completely fuck over the character system. For an example of someone attempting to do this and failing miserably, look at Lionheart, aka Star Trek: Away Team 2.

Besides, what does Troika's new game have to do with Fallout? It's not Fallout, it doesn't try to be Fallout and it won't ever BE Fallout. With the game not being Fallout there's no reason it can't be RT (other than RT tending to get implemented miserably, but I'm enough of a fanboi to trust Troika that they won't fuck up).

So?

OMG! That means he has UBER knowledge!!

I definitely understand that some people prefer TB to RT. Personally, however, I have found that TB battles can take many hours, where as a hybrid system can cut down on that time radically depending on the gameplay style of the user. My first encounter with a hybrid system was with Baldur's Gate and then Arcanum, but didn't Fallout Tactics give a choice of being completely TB if one wanted it? All I am saying is that I don't always have time to play TB games (in fact I have little time to play games at all anymore), so I am growing increasingly more fond of hybrid systems. It does unfortunately lose some of the gameplay aspects in comparison to TB, but that is something I have to sacrifice. Also, I don't understand the hostility between these posts. I initially posted as a curious gamer with little time to devote to TB games and was met with hostile posts. Now, when I reposted to defend myself once again, there are more hostilities. I'm not a 15 year old kid sitting is his parent's house without a job or responsibilities, nor am I a casual gamer looking for quick action games between watching Rambo and attending kegger Frat parties. All I am saying is that you try to understand where I'm coming from before you try ripping into me. Thanks.

Yes, but it was rather heavily bugged, and certain sections of the game were obviously made for RT. I'm not going to go into why/how, as it's been gone over many times, if you really want to know, try searching the forum.

That's the clincher - most people here are not willing to sacrifice gameplay for speed.

I honestly do not mean to be hostile, or to "rip into" you, but it's hard to tell people that you don't like their idea (let alone that you intensly dislike it) without some negativity creeping in. You have also not had any particularly rude comments directed at you. Yes, there is a certain amount of derision, but nothing too rude.

Imagine, for instance, if you went into a C&C forum and suggested a TB mod for it. You'd expect a certain amount of criticism for it, simply because your idea is so much at odds with the game that the forum goers all love. Why wouldn't you expect the same here?
