Fallout 1 Into redux

Jes-Wan

First time out of the vault
Hi All, I've recreated Fallout 1's into video using assets from Fallout NV and 4 in Iclone.

I've only been working in 3D programs for about a month now, have no prior experience. I did this for learning purposes. :)

That is certainly a lot of effort that went into creating a worse version of Fallout intro...

Ouch, thanks for your feedback... I'm only brand new at this, about a month's experience and did this to learn. I'm a gamer of twenty five years, yet thought I would finally give it a crack.

NMA feedback tends to be rather painfully honest and straight to the point. There's very little sugar coating going on here. But don't let that demotivate you, you've already done a better job than 99,99% of the forum members would do.

My biggest annoyance with your version is that it doesn't quite clearly show the execution as clearly as the original. In the original, it's quite shocking to watch how they coldbloodedly execute the bound soldier, how the executed soldier squirms and how the executioners then wave at the camera once they noticed they were being filmed.

Thanks mate! Having never done animation before that part was my biggest challenge. I kind of reached the point of if I don't stop now I'll never get it finished ha-ha. I do agree with you, I actually questioned myself doing this because of how shocking that particular part is and how many may react to it in this day in age. As an old school gamers we weren't bothered as much about it back in the 90s, but in today's standard can you imagine that actually getting through main stream without tones of news articles? The wave is there, but it's a bit harder to see compared to the original, he's going more side to side, whereas the original goes up and down, like flapping. Thanks again, you've given me a lot to think about with what I do next in regards to considering more on the impact of the viewer. Cheers. :)

I am sure your skillset would be very appreciated in projects such as Fallout 1.5 resurrection and Nevada.
Are you familiar with those two mods?

Made more so, because it's more than likely based on an actual historical event: the Saigon Execution [!graphic image].

The intro ...well... it's not as clear or impactful as the original... but it shows promise. I agree with SuAcide's reasons. There is no reason not to refine, and improve upon it though; for learning purposes. You might even try doing the vault boy animation clips in 3D, and the photos. IMO, drop (or greatly reduce) the faux film damage effect; it distracts and detracts.

You are not the first fan to make an extended 3D video for Fallout. You might like this one:
(The guy spent almost two years years on it)

Yes, it is a lesser version of the original but you're also working with assets from New Vegas and 4. I hope you learned some decent stuff while working on it. That would be the most important part.

My two things I outright didn't like was the Grognak comic on the wall as I don't really care for those sort of additions to Fallout and I don't think it fits thematically, especially with Fallout 1. I also would have liked the execution to be more clear on the execution as well as others have said.

Ehh, the guy was last online in February, I don't think he is coming back for any sort of critique. But yeah, agreed with most of the stuff you guys have written.
