Fallout 1 "proper" walkthrough: are the in-game clues about Master's whereabouts?

First time out of the vault
I'm playing Fallout 1 for the first time.

By now, it's common knowledge, that Master can be found in the Cathedral, south of Boneyard.
However, I couldn't find any in-game clues that I should look in the Boneyard. Are there any?

From what I recall the Followers of the Apocalypse will hint at the Master being at the Cathedral as does the Lieutenant in Mariposa base.
I think the computers at Mariposa also contain information about the Master.

Edit: oh and Morpheus at the Cathedral.

The Followers of the Apocalypse and people in Adytum have dialogue about the Children worshipping a "Dark God" and I'm fairly sure the term Master is mentioned, the super-mutant unity soldier dying in the Deathclaw cave references the master, and the Children showing up in Necropolis with the Super-Mutants as allies forms a decent link that would at least push the Vault Dweller to investigate the Church. When you get there, the word Master is all over the place and there's dialogue where your character connects their goals of unity and transformation with the FEV vats. By the time you infiltrate the church and see the nightkin/supers everywhere, it should be abundantly clear.

I remember missing the actual Master multiple times in the cathedral. The passage is kind of hidden, and I keep forgetting to walk there, just to go the bomb and set it off.

i think the fortune-teller in boneyard tells you that you have to go south and will mark the cathedral on your worldmap

IIRC The Followers of the Apocalypse area has at least 2 NPCs, one of them a talking head even, who give you hints about the Cathedral. Actually I believe the Followers' talking head, Nicole, gives you a quest to find another talking head in the cathedral, Sarah, who will give you information about what's going on inside.

That being said, the map design kind of hides the exit to the west side of Downtown Boneyard, where the Followers are, and when you get there and leave it doesn't even show up on the town map :/ So it's understandable for most people to have missed it the first time through.

Yep, although Talius the ghoul doesn't actually give you any quests, just dialogue info about the cathedral and the Master...and a spy in the Followers that doesn't exist :P
