Fallout 1 Removeing level cap?

BababooeyHTJ

First time out of the vault
I just picked up Fallout 1 and installed a couple of mods. Really fun so far. Anyways, is there any way to remove the level cap? Also I hear that there is a way to do away with the time limit.

Thanks for the help. :D

As far as I know, lev 27 in F1 & damn near level 50 in F2 & probably about the same in FT, there is none.
But in F3 there is altho there are mods which get around this.
I was at level 40 when i had found everything and done everything

OOC will my level revert to 20 with the Bethesda addons? I am yet to buy them yet as i was heartily sick of F3 by the end. Do you also lose yr perks?

Is there really a level 21 cap in Fallout 1? The wikia says so, but I can't recall hitting any cap when I last played it. And I was fighting respawning deathclaws just to gain xp. I killed a lot.

If there is a cap, is there a way to remove it, indeed?

Fallout 1 - 21
Fallout 2 - 99

I know that you can set a different level cap with Sfall for Fallout 2. Don't know if this works the other way around for Fallout 1 too. But I also wouldn't recommend it. If you play Fallout 1 "normal" and take a look at everything (and don't fucking shitgrind encounters- yes dudes, grinding sucks and is boring as hell) you should be level 20 to 21 at the end of the game.

I didn't got it.

If I do grind, will I be able to level up beyond level 21? Or after I reach level 21, I stop gaining experience?

I know that grinding beyond 21 sucks. Even grinding 18-21 sucks, since you could finish the game, killing the Master and stuff at level 15, or maybe even at level 9 or so, if you intend it.

I know that you can set a different level cap with Sfall for Fallout 2.

You mean playing beyond level 99? Or playing with a lower level cap?

I don't think that it is possible to set a level cap above 99 in Fallout 2. Also I know nobody who ever reached level 99. The one who managed this must have had a very boring week or two.

If you do all quests in Fallout 1 and visit all places and got all the other stuff around, you should be at least level 18 when completing the game. If you finish the game with level 15 or less, you definitively missed out a lot.

I once did it, but that was a very long time ago and I used the cheatbook you get in New Reno.

And it still took helluva lot time, so most likely you'd run out of time (sfall-less game) before hopin to reach that level the normal way.

Well... of course... if you use the cheat book, you can beat it in just a few minutes. But doing this is stupid because of a lot things: first, it's cheating, second with using it the first time, all your skills are at 300% and third... well, yeh. You already have maxed out your stats, so leveling up even more makes no sense at all.

Hmm I could have sworn that I hit higher than lev 21 in F1..the deathclaws alone put me at 21...was there a patch/mod which extended the levelling?

However "grinding out" is a matter of opinion. I personally play at the hard settings and without exp you die so levelling via grinding is necessary to finish the game. As for "boring" well that is only your opinion. I find that hitting the robber caves at lev 16 or so when they have pulse weapons and turbo plasma rifles to be hardly boring and you wont find them if you just zip through the game going from quest to quest as their find probability is quite low( but looting such weapons is nice even if energy weapons at 20%skill suck :))

EDIT: apologies...my last comments were about fallout 2 not 1

The humblest of apologies mighty mod :)

So, is Swift Learner as pointless in Fallout 1 as it is in Fallout 3? Yes, I admit to playing 3. I've played 1 about twice, but it's been a while. So I don't remember if there is any point to this perk. I seem to recall some of the best perks require level 20 (slayer?), so I want to make damn sure I get to the cap.

Here, you can find all the perks and their requirements.

As for Swift Learner, it's pointless in Fallout 3, Fallout 1, AND Fallout 2.

Per on his Nearly Ultimate Guide said:
Swift Learner decisively wins the struggle for the title of most deceptively lousy perk. It may certainly seem like a good investment when you first look at it, but since the xp requirement for each new level rises linearly, even if you get all three slots of Swift Learner you only ever stay a few levels ahead of someone who doesn't ruin their early game wasting invaluable perks. For starters, you have to wait until level 17 before you're even one whole level ahead of the "slow" learner, and if you eventually get to level 30, which should not be until the game is over anyway, you'll still be only two levels ahead. So, that adds up eventually to a few HP and skill points, for three perks... Simply put, do not choose this perk even if it threatens you with a radiated stick.

So, basically, if you pick the perk, at the time you have gained enough experience to be level 96 and you're halfway to 97, you'll reach level 99. So, even then, you can't gain three whole levels for picking the perk. Maybe if there wasn't a level cap...

Conclusion: Swift Learner is a totally pointless perk, no matter what!
