The game crashes very often without any error message. I use XP ... This never used to happen before. The screen freezes.

Odd. Have any save games of this?

No unfortunately not because game has crashed when I tried to save. Try walking from arroyo to klamath couple of times Kaga will vanish from the scene sometimes but the 2 outcasts still strike.

:clap: 1st up, you are heaven sent! Killap! you are the man! I've been playing fallout 2 over and over again ever since it was released more than a decade ago! this RP is heaven sent! breathes new life to an old game!


bugs: I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not, but i tried to disable the submarine in San Francisco, but after that, I'm left running around in the submarine unable to do anything to anyone or anything. i tried going up the ladder and go on the boat, but there isn't any icons for 'use'


Help anyone?

Ladder at the side of the sub doesn't work? Post a save game if not.

now I'm playing the RP with YAMM installed and must say, so your mod brings an excelent balance to the combat. Very good work you have made, I like it. :clap:
(Heh, all of those pig-rats and mole-rats are a dangerous opponents now, at last!)
 
Just a small thing - with critical successes/misses switched on from the very start of the game using SFALL. If you critically fail while trying to disarm a trap in the Arroyo Temple, the trap plate simply disappears and no spear is shot from the wall.

I can provide a save game if you really want it - its at the very start of the game, and my traps skill is 14% - it'll probably take a while to reproduce.

This is my save file.

I was mentioning these kinds of crashes killap, it happened to me 2 times... Once in kaga encounter and once during I was trying to attack rat god in klamath sewers
 
Keeng Ra'at

Something strange just happened to me. I've killed Keeng Ra'at (the rat God) with one blow - for 16hp with a Combat knife in the eyes. This can't be right, can it? I'm playing the hardest difficulty and also use YAAM.

It can be, because the instant death roll threshold in Rats' critical table is pretty low. You don't even need Better Criticals perk for instant death of rats.

You don't say... one would think the almighty rodent king would be an exception. I'm just freaked out because I'm used to semi-epic battles with Ra'at :D Quite anticlimactic ...

That's crazy. I experience it too with your save game but I have no idea why it's happening. I can start combat on other maps in Klamath (trapper town, etc), other cities (Den, etc) and all is well. Not Klamath downtown though. I have other save games which don't exhibit this behavior at all. I noticed you had called the save game 'quicksave'. Does this mean that you're using the quick save feature? kansar02, are you making use of this too?

Can you (ugsbaudolino) and kansar02 give me your exact setup information: OS, how did you install the original game, how did you install the RP (what options in the installer) and if you are running any other mods, etc.
 
I looked at that save before and it's some kind of map corruption.
If you replace KLADWTWN.SAV with one from a working save it's all fine again.
I extracted that map and opened it in the Mapper so see if I could find what was wrong. I figured I could remove stuff until I got it working again (it worked again if I cleared the whole level), but I never found exactly what it was. Every time I saved the map as a textfile the Mapper crashed. When I looked at the textfile it had stopped somewhere in the objects section but as it crashed before it wrote out the problematic object I couldn't see it that way.
I'm guessing it could be a critter that has strayed outside of the map boundaries that is causing it.

I actually had that crash with Kaga happen once, when he spawned on the wrong side of the border and ran outside the map to try and reach me.

You are absolutely correct! I had all the Klamath citizens (not all of them, but just those who use the kcitizen script) spawn in the center of the map. Lo and behold, no more crashing! I wonder where the critter has to be for it to start crashing...

Found the little bugger! He was hiding on the edge where you have to scroll it just in the right way to be able to see him. :roll:
There were actually two of them causing the crash but the other one was in plain sight.

Alright, so anyway... If a critter is south of the red line he will cause a crash.

The odd thing is that there is only a problem on the south side of the map. The other directions have no problems.
Also, that crash line is south of what exactly? I don't get it.
Could the high-res patch be involved somehow?

no other mod

2. singlecore=0
3. skipopeningmovies=1

Yes, that save was Quicksave. But normal save has the same problem.

Anyway, I am very happy you've found something around the cause of the problem. All your efforts give this old game eternal life.

Once again, awesome sleuth work!

I'm not sure why this problem didn't happen before. Since there were never any blockers on this map in vanilla F2, there really isn't any reason why a critter wouldn't have wandered down there. Very strange. What is the tile hex range down there?

In any event, I plan to add blockers to this map and others where critters have the tendency to wander around. Nearly every map has a full border of blockers around it, but there are a few that don't for some reason.

Thanks for the info. Looks like we got to the bottom of the problem! Can't really do anything for your current save game (I could do the spawn trick like I did to discover the problem) but at least future playthroughs won't have this problem.

Since a week will have gone by come this Saturday, expect the official release of 2.1.2 then. After that, I'll be taking a modding hiatus.

High-res was not on during my crashes... I just had RP vanilla full installed nothing touched
