fallout 2 sex appeal trait

First time out of the vault
just starting the game and just got a Q on this trait...my charisma is 4 and i know that means I lose 1 charisma talking to other males (im male). Does that mean I wont be able to get as many NPCs to join me if i have it? I know charisma has to be an even number or something...

probably only good for females right, might just take something else..
 
I think it just affects reaction (which basically doesn't matter) and bartering, not quest options* or NPCs.

* Other than quest options that directly reference Sex Appeal.
 
but dont reactions affect quest options then? or is it mainly down to speech and INT. if it doesnt affect any quest stuff (other than sex appeal) i will take, more interesting than anything else on offer..

Only for less than a handful of critters in the entire game, and even then in largely insignificant ways.
 
Sex appeal has no hardcoded effects on speech, charisma or anything else whatsoever. All you get is what's in the critter's scripts.

There must be something, though: you get different barter prices when talking to someone for the first time with Sex Appeal on or off. I figured it was CH +1 or -1 for whichever calculation is used to set the barter level.

No, really, there's nothing. Believe me, I've spent more than enough time digging around in fallouts code. :P Any and all effects come from the scripts.

As far as scripts are concerned, there's a check in GetReaction in modreact.h. That function is used by pretty much every critter (348 of them, according to grep,) to set up their initial reaction. The effect is to improve the critters initial reaction by 20 for opposite sex, and reduce it by 20 for the same sex. I presume that's what has an effect on the barter prices.

There's debug messages in there too, so if you turn on debug logging you should see the sex appeal effects.
 
I don't know if it works for the game you're talking about (cause I don't know which one exactly it is...)
All I know is that from the RPG that while also talking to the same gendered sex you loose 40 speech... which isn't cool. ultimately, unless you want to play a gigalo character it's wise not to choose that trait. actually in all honesty it's just not a very worthy trait.
 
I couldnt get my characters to be a porn star without Kama sutra master or Sex Appeal on.

So... not so useless. No matter how many I screwed, didnt get chosen. Had Prizefighter on them all.
 
I took buffout's, 2x and it dasn't work pa.

I went for mega-slut traits. I had sex appeal, kama sutra, Gigolo and like 6 endurance. I didnt get sexpert yet but eventually got that too.

Made some cash on puttin' out

Can I ask this question again? Are NPCs affected by the Sex Appeal trait listed anywhere? I would like to try a playthrough taking Sex Appeal to use it properly.
 
Search my guide for "sex appeal" and it should give you all five instances or so where it matters. Phyllis, Myron and Little Jesus come to mind.

vcnancy is the only script that checks for it explicitly. These scripts check it as part of dude_sex_rating: (i.e. you can overcome the lack of sex_appeal with high chr etc.) dcbilly, dcfranki, dcmetzge, dcsheila, nccorbro, nclabish, ncliljes, nctray, ecravpty. So there's somewhat more than 5, but there's no cases where it's vital. (Even in vcnancy, which I assume is Phyllis's script, you can skip the check by having the kama sutra perk, >8 charisma or >75 speech)

Of course, pretty much every critter checks it as part of setting up their initial reaction too.

Something else I just noticed; there's no gender check in dude_sex_rating. the sex appeal trait has an effect of +2 charisma regardless of who you're after. :P
