Germantown, Maryland is a real-world town in that area.

Big Town is also a small section of Baltimore, IIRC. Jeez, people.

I've lived in Baltimore all my life (26 years) and I've never heard of Big Town (Pig Town yes, Big Town no).

anyway...steering the debate towards a serious topic.

"PC version is slightly superior in the graphics department. Both versions were running well and suffered from none of the hang-ups that usually bog down unfinished games

Its good news, i wasnt looking forward to forking out another 400 on a gfx card to be able to play it to a good standard.

As the dog charged forward and leapt for my throat I activated VATS once again and queued up a melee attack with my fists. I connected with the animal in mid-air and watched as I pounded his in his head for the kill.

I would have liked to see this on video, im wondering the queued attacks had any effect on the dog in terms of physics. (I.E. connecting to the head cause the dog to career off course mid air).
I dont particularly like the idea of hitting a dog repeatedly while its frozen in mid air. If you choose a mid air hit then you have to accept that a combo just isnt gonna work, unless your Bruce’s long long long lost white cousin.

I liked the renaming of towns in FO1 and 2. I was disappointed a bit with New Reno, and I thought it was silly that it was still 'San Francisco' when it was essentially all asians and a few Hubologists. The Hub, The Glow, Boneyard, Necropolis. Those are cool names. They create a sort of expectation in your mind and add to the atmosphere. Keeping original city names seems to exude a lack of creativity that's appearing to be ever more present as more info is released.

Or, perhaps the people desired a sense of normalcy in their otherwise shitty lives (living in a wasteland) and tried to cling onto any remnants of their old existence any way that they could.

If northern Ontario was destroyed by a brutal war (fat chance :)) I think that I would find it comforting if, from the ashes of the destruction, I could find recognizably named places around me.

I would be rather pleased if I found out they had a location called "Badger Town" that had a massive statue of a badger that came alive at night and helped guard the town.

Im probably on my own with this one but a massive badger? surely an instant win.

They'd look at the road signs and then they'd be living in communities called Yield, Fork In Road and Airport Beaver.

I'm from the Badger State and that is a terrible idea for Fallout 3.

Now if there was a reference to The Simpsons episode where badgers overran Springfield, that would be funny.

Well, Fallout's names were pretty functional, as in Junktown, the Hub, L.A. Boneyard (though the town is Adytum), Necropolis. Those aren't just names, they're descriptions.

But creative they're not. They were fine, as are names like Bigtown.
I disagree that Bigtown is a descriptive name, sure it comments on the size of the town but does it have any character? Yes, the names in Fallout weren't all that original or creative but they added to the atmosphere while these really just seem to fall flat. Regardless of whether or not the names are taken from their real counter parts or not they simply aren't interesting. That said, I think that Megaton has a good name, it fits the setting and atmosphere aswell as functioning as a descriptor for the town in spite of being uncreative. All in all, the Megaton/Fallout 1 route is better for the game than the real world route as it adds flavor to the setting.

How about talking raccoons?

Surely this magnificent species are finally due their triumphant apperance in Fallout 3! For to long have they languished in their limbo state in the semi-canon dimension! Bethesda will bring about the full glory that is the S'Lanter race! Praise be Bethesda!

Kidding aside, I seriously hope they dont include em.

How about a town, that is called Mudsdale, and it is completely infested with crabs. I know I know bad joke..

This is one of the things that I'm not really too nitpicky about, Big town,German town, their pretty much like the "original" names we have in Canada. I actually live 20 minutes away from paris... ontario that is.

But it really isn't that big of a deal. As long as the scheme doesn't apply to ALL cities, then I'm fine.

Hi everyone, I just joined the forums. So you have to be nice to me, right? ....right? (gulp) Okay, moving on... :)

Did I miss something? The IGN article says,

As the dog charged forward and leapt for my throat I activated VATS once again and queued up a melee attack with my fists. I connected with the animal in mid-air and watched as I pounded his in his head for the kill. Having specific targeting options for melee attacks isn't just useful but it's a great deal of fun to watch if you can handle the gore.

According to this reviewer, you CAN target specific body parts with VATS. Up to now, everything I've read has said that you cannot. What gives? Did I miss a news item or something? Thanks for any and all replies / flames / name-calling etc.

P.S. I played FO and FO2 when they first came out, so you can put me down as an old-school fan (for those of you who care) :D
