Fallout 3 hits Steam

Fallout is up for pre-order on Steam. Not necessarily of interest unless Steam has one of their weekend pre-order discount dealies, but what it is interesting is that they also chucked up the PC manual. Not a lot of info in there, but worth a look if you're interested in the game.

Thanks Jebus and Gizmojunk.

Some of those perks disturbe me.

"Explorer"? "Cyborg"? "GRIM REAPERS SPRINT"?!?!

Friend/Foe bar is absolutely ridiculous, if that's not hand holding, then I don't know what is.

Yeah some of the perks I really don't care for. I am glad there are many i recognize, however. As for the friend/foe meter, at least it is reliant on your Perception (that being said, there was a perk on F1 & 2 that lets you distinguish friend/foes in combat, yes?)

Heh, there's no persistency any more. There's a bloody perk that allows you to open jammed locks...

No friction indeed.

I like how know we know exactly what will happen when exposed to radiation now.

Uh oh, I'm almost at 600 rads, better use some Rad-Away before I lose Strength!

Somehow, it weakens the whole "Oh crap, I'm radiated!" experience.

Man, those perks are pretty bad. I love how at level 18 you can suddenly have an adamantium skeleton. The screen shots are crap and it doesn't seem as though you can bind keys (a carry over problem from Oblivion). Also, I love how the map shows destinations you haven't visited yet but should.

Oh, and SPECIAL seems to only affect skills for the most part and has no direct effect on damage.

EDIT: And for the mini games (although I didn't see the computer one in the manual) there is no auto try, it's either force the lock or do the game.

So, Contract Killer is the evil version of the 'kill so-and-so and they'll have an ear on their corpse you can sell' good perk.

I thought the original was stupid, but at least before today I thought it was unique.

Why do they keep trying to hard to make sure both evil and good (or neutral, whatever) characters get all the same options? They're doing their best to eliminate choices and consequences at all.

If you're evil, you kill good people for their ears, and have bounty hunters after you. If you're good, you're killing evil folks for their ears, and having mercenaries coming after you!

What the heck kind of reason is there for even replaying this thing anymore?!

That would have required more development work, as well as make the game actually more difficult for the konsole kids, who would actually have to user their brains instead of their reflexes.

They don't seem to understand C&C at all. Either that or are extremely lazy and rather than coming up with a different story for each choice they just flip it. I'm wondering what they are going to come up for neutral due to the fact they cann't really flip the good or evil storylines to make a neutral one.

Seems that Bethsoft is taking Bioware's good/evil ideas to new lows.

TONS OF NEW INFO HERE, just tons of info here, don't know why this is such a small post.

Shows all the perks in game.
What 200 400 600 rads do negatively.

Please explain these actions:

Block (left alt key)
Grab (Z)
Wait (T) Like rest\sleep?
Ready (R) Holder weapon probably.

Block is blocking (RT combat remember), grab is take, wait isn't sleep but you can wait at any location, ready is take weapon in hand.

Yeah I guess I undersold it because I've had the perk list for a week. Yawnage. Are we still supposed to get worked up about info for this game? You gotta be kidding me.

Yeah, no kidding. Intense Training perk with 10 ranks from level 2?! LEVEL 2? Pretty much negates all the importance the characteristics used to have.

When you finally catch up with Dad, be nice. Or not…

Looks like that thing Todd didn't want to confirm a week ago is confirmed, well that and the [spoiler:846ea74727] pirated copy confirmation.[/spoiler:846ea74727]

Why didn't they just send a game guide and a super character as part of the install.

Also, did you read the introduction? Basically goes from the war to "present day".

Totally ignores everything from the first two games.

So much for providing the backstory, to let new players to the FO world know how it all came about.

:(

Ya, when i saw that introduction section, I thought it was going to be, i don't know, an introduction to the game and not a preview of what the game is.

Also, you can block in this game too?

Edit: So i dont double post.

Downloads
View any Downloadable Content you have obtained for Fallout 3.

2 things,

1) Looks like they do plan to let us download mods eventually, or that is 1 of 2 ways you can interpret this. The other way you can interpret this is that you will be able to see which BS released patches you have downloaded, but I have never seen a game do this and don't see a reason for it.

2) I thought BS was smart and had a download button to see if and automatically download the latest BS released patch. But as it reads is that its to "View any Downloadable Content you have obtained for Fallout 3" and doesn't seem to be for downloading latest patch.

Edit 2: this thread is dead for reasons unknown.

Level 20
Explorer
Ranks Available: 1
Requirements: None
When you choose the Explorer perk, every location in the world is revealed
on your map. So get out there and explore!
Grim Reaper’s Sprint
Ranks Available: 1
Requirements: None
If you kill a target in V.A.T.S., all your Action Points are restored upon
exiting V.A.T.S.
Ninja
Ranks Available: 1
Requirements: Sneak 80%, Melee Weapons 80%
The Ninja perk grants you the power of the fabled shadow warriors. When
attacking with either Melee or Unarmed, you gain a +15% critical chance on
every strike. Sneak attack criticals do 25% more damage than normal.
Solar Powered
Ranks Available: 1
Requirements: Endurance 7
With the Solar Powered perk, you gain an additional 2 points to Strength
when in direct sunlight, and slowly regenerate lost Health.

Level 20 blows, I was expecting some extremely good perk to pick from. I guess that you can pick other skills from 18 or something, but I was expecting End game over the top perk for htis. Well grim reaper is pretty good actually, but I was expecting like 5 good perks to choose from.
