Fallout 3 LGC: InsideGamer NL

The Dutch InsideGamer has tried out Fallout 3 twice more, at the showing in Amsterdam and at the Leipzig Game Convention. They're very impressed overall, noting the game looks slightly better, especially in lighting effects, "but despite that the visual site remains a bit of a problem, as everything looks gloomy and gray due to the grand, apocalyptic world."<blockquote>In Megaton there are a lot of characters that need your help. For example, a bartender asked me to reclaim 100 caps (caps are the currency in this world) from a female thief. I accepted that quest back at E3, but back then I chose to just shoot the thief without a second thought to claim the 100 caps. This time I discussed the matter with her and agreed to let her escape and to tell the bartender that she had run away. In doing so I hoped to have fulfilled the quest satisfactorily and to continue on to the next quest. Sadly my word wasn't good enough to the bartender and I had to get the 100 caps another way.

Another cool incident happened at a former villa. Here I met some kind of Hugh-Hefner-type dude, who was chilling with two women of easy virtue. The house was full of empty whiskey bottles and everything pointed to a rough life style. I asked the ladies what they were doing here exactly and it was clear they were only there for the money. They also let me know I'd be better off not picking a fight with the landlord, as he's extremely proficient with weapons. Cool, reason enough for me to take out my shotgun and blow his head off. A wise move, as because of his death I now had a nice machine gun, as the ladies ran off in a panic. This annoyed me and by shooting off their legs I assured neither lady could go anywhere anymore.

In all likely I could no longer do a certain quest due to this action. It turned out both ladies had a knife under their nightgown. It might very well be they had a double agenda, but now I would never find out. Actions in Fallout have real consequences and I love it.</blockquote>Yeah, 'coz shooting someone meaning you can no longer interact with them is the pinnacle of choice & consequence.

Thanks The Dutch Ghost.

I don't get it. Since she's gone, why would it be your job to hand over a 100 caps? You didn't exactly agree to take over her debt, did you?

That's only part of it right?

Yes. We don't translate whole articles (except with permission) because:
a) it's rude
b) it's illegal

Most of the rest is about how the game was totally different based on his approach every time (3 times) he's played it. He describes VATS again, and how scarce ammo can be (when shooting fire-breathing ants). There's not much else in there.

Ok cheers, I understand about being rude and that. Guess folks will have to use an online translator to read it all, which never turns out great <_<

Err ok you meant Fire ants right? Because fire breathing ants sounds a little coo-coo even for BS.

Tell that to the fire breathing Geckos....No really I hear they need the work.

Man i had completely forgot about those wretched little things, but then again bad ideas are not BS exclusive, and just because Fallout 2 had them doesn't make the Dragon ants any better.

It would be much more interesting if you could wound their legs with a less intense weapon and be able to question them or even apply first aid when they cooperate. As it is it seems kind of stupid that the person just shoots at their legs and their legs pop off and they apparently die.

I do agree, though Fallout 2 always had this comic book feel to it, Fallout seemed just a tad more serious about it. So when FO3 says "it is gonna be like FO1" then has something a lil bit goofy...It is little weird.

Still does not solve our Jobless Fire Gecko problems.

And Fallout 2 could have been worse, i played a mod for it (i think it was killaps) that there was a bad guy from Arroyo always poping up and saying he was gonna kill you, really annoying.

dude, do you ever get happy about anything?

I thought this was a big thing, being able to fuck up quests by killing the wrong person. you never ever see that in games these days, and it's something I've missed from Fallout. and here you have it, but still you find some way turn it into something negative.

you're like the damn Grinch of Fallout land.

Agreed. And I quite liked it too.

He has a legitimate beef. If you thought this is a big thing, then I feel sorry for you, because you've clearly been brainwashed by generations of games calling themselves RPGs, offering even less.

Killing off an NPC and blocking their quests is possibly the easiest, cheapest way to cross that "choice and consequence" mark from the game's to-do- list. In no way or form it is actually some sort of remarkable thing worth mentioning in a Fallout title.

I am sure Fallout 3 likely has real examples of choice and consequence, but this isn't one of them, and that journalist is an idiot.

Yeah i completely blocked that name out because in portuguese its the word for taking a dump (Caga), same sound at least.
