Fallout 3 moves 4.7 million copies

Yeah well its canon now. Your right about the Black Isle thing, but what I am saying is that Black Isle said that Tictacs isn't canon, but Fallout 3 did.

Oh, I must have misunderstood you! Well, for the most part I agree.

Personally, I don't have an issue with certain parts of Tactics being treated as (semi-)canon if they don't contradict the first two games, and AFAIK the only mention to Tactics in FO3 is some dialogue that there is a Chicago-based contingent that's gone rogue.

In my (unjustified) opinion, I think Bethsoft did a pretty good job. I get Fallout vibes from the game. I'm enjoying it and am surprised it retains so many 'niche' elements such as the skill checks and so on, considering it's also a blockbuster.
There are no unjustified opinions. There are only opinions. If you have an opinion, then you have already (even unconsciously) justified it to yourself. People trying to change your opinions only end up causing trouble .... and they just need to accept that their opinion differs from yours.

In my opinion, I think your right.

In my opinion, there is no such thing as gravity, just a flat earth hurling upwards pinning us down. People trying to change my opinion base on justification must accept my opinion. Otherwise it will cause trouble.

In my opinion, I think 'your' not right.

Opinions are just observation of the facts. And the facts are, that Fallout 3 doesn't match up with his predecessors, whatever his inherent quality may be.

Fallout 3 doesn't match up with his predecessors, whatever his inherent quality may be..
Previous Fallouts aside, I still fail to see how Fallout 3 even matches up to its contemporaries. Again, judging by today's standards, most aspects of the game's engine (lighting, shadows, animations, textures, models, collision detection and so forth) are simply horrendous. Most of the bastardized FPS/RPG gameplay elements are seriously lacking. The writing is abhorrent. The humor ("Welcome to Megaton. The bomb is perfectly safe. We promise") is, well, humorless. What else do we have here... Insipid environment(/character/quest/dungeon) design. Incoherent and talentless art direction. Weak sound effects. B-class voice acting. Utterly dysfunctional AI. Unprofessionally implemented interface... It all comes down to minus after minus after minus, with no particular pluses coming to mind. That is, unless you count mindless, over-the-top violence as a distinguishing plus. I don't.

Frankly, I consider Oblivion to be a better game than Fallout 3. For one, it was larger, better looking, and seemingly more advanced. The world had weather effects, the magical setting allowed at least some sort of suspension of disbelief, and even though it did take a couple of fireball/arrow shots in the head to finish somebody, I do not believe it looked even remotely as ridiculous as this:

That being said, at this point I'm just comparing one piece of excrement with another...

I have to say, it made MY stomach turn. But HELL ... if people like it, then so be it. More power to them. Who are we to judge?

We are sane, non shit-eaters. It applies to both products, really.
I think you missed my point. Either that or I missed your sarcasm.

I really have to agree here. A lot of Fallout 3 falls into the "not bad" category but I constantly get a "mod team with unlimited resources" vibe. Yes, it's a decent go at a very ambitious production, but every single aspect of the game seems amateurish in some way.

There's voice-acting on par with the laughably bad FMV that was once trendy to include in games. There's dialogue that's as poor as translations from Russian. There's scenery that wouldn't look out of place in Morrowind. There's a combat pause that's as dull as KOTOR, but potentially worse without force powers. There's FPS gameplay that's tragically exploitable, to the point where a level 2 can take on a couple of mutants at once and win easily.

Basically, Bethesda have packed a huge quantity of content into the game, but none of it is up to AAA standards, which just isn't acceptable. Even low budget Indies outdo it by at least excelling where they can with limited resources, and masking the rest.

Frankly, I consider Oblivion to be a better game than Fallout 3. For one, it was larger, better looking, and seemingly more advanced. I think they're pretty much of a muchness. As always, Bethesda "fix" the perceived issue with their previous game by overcompensating in the opposite direction. It's just a question of which you prefer, it's very hard to objectively compare the two because they're both deeply flawed in different ways.

SECTION 8, give us an update about Synaesthesia at the codex you miserable bastard. Don't make me come over there.

You forgot how the radiant dog AI is also hopelessly outdated when compared to fable 2:aiee:
