Fallout 3 Set in the East Coast?

Bradylama

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
So sayeth Desslock.

According to Desslock's recent RPG column in PC Gamer, he "accidentally" came to a wall in Bethesda offices that had a lot of concept art. The article was mostly about what Desslock thinks Fallout 3 should have, which he could've lifted from any Fallout forum on the web.

However, towards the end of the article, he states: "Judging by some of the landmarks I spied in the design art, Fallout 3 will not be set in Southern California like the first two games. Instead, it'll be set on the east coast of the U.S., ..."

I can already hear the atrocious Planet of the Apes jokes.

...
No completely useless bumps, Bradylama. I mean, a bump 13 minutes after your own post? Huh?

Anyway, nicely done. If set on the East Coast, I won't complain. It depends entirely on what Bethesda will do with it.

One problem: Pipboy was not a corporate icon of the producers of the PIPBoy2000. It was a cartoony image used by (predominantly) Vault-Tek in educational videos.

Also, moved to Fallout 3 discussions.

I think Photobucket resizes images that it thinks are too big. The image I wanted to upload was 1250x1728

This is pretty interesting. Why didn't you post this in the news, Brady? No matter, I'm going to do it in a little while.

By the way, is it okay to upload the scan to our gallery? Any copyright issues to consider?

EDIT: The article is from the December 2006 issue of PC Gamer! What the hell?

They always release the mags with two or three months in advance, It's just like mags work.

Excelent, excelent find, thanks Brady and Ratty

I didn't feel comfortable making it News because I wouldn't have had any proof. I could've done a scan, but like you said, I'm uncertain of any copyright issues, and it's impossible to link to the article because the PC Gamer website only has snippets from stuff nobody cares about.

how about Fallout 3 beeing in Europe?

Have you even bothered playing either game, or do you think Fallout is "I shoot shit in teh nuked wasteland"?
ahaha, quote of the mouth probably  Nicely said :P

Well, you know, i always had a strange feeling about this. Bethesda did say sometime they had been studying over FOT's storyline. Maybe they are planning on continuing the history of the new brotherhood of steel? Well, i do hope they right the wrongs FOT left behing (right wrongs left :P)... But i'd like a storyline develped over the vaults and their inhabitants instead of one over the BOS... Don't know...

Not funny, Rosh, there have been a number of experiments with creatively projecting Fallout setting onto Europe. Yurop, PW, Forlorn World...

Except that those weren't full-blooded Fallout sequels. One of Fallout's hallmarks is 50s Americana. In Europe, this doesn't really work.

but they're not Fallout, Silencer...

american 50's pop scifi in europe? no thanks...

edit: damn you, sander...

That's why I added the word "creatively" in the last post at the last moment. ;)

Of course, they are not sequels, but keep in mind, that moving Fallout out of USA would not only be refreshing, in a way, but also would reduce the potential for canon contradictions.

Also, creativity in the case of PW and FW (I'm not saying anything about Yurop for lack of info) was applying a "retrofuture" theme to European history, which would in their case be harvesting the heritage of socialist Poland and it's neighbours to produce a sort of post-communuclear theme. Replacing American 50's propaganda with Socialist propaganda, socialist heroes, local flavouring...

Or imagine a 60's European integration scenario extended into the future, then dashed by the dissolution of the Commonwealth.

There are possibilities.

Nevertheless, I'm pleased as punch with Fallout stayin' in America.

Yeah, the possibilities are certainly there for an original Fallout-inspired game set in Europe, just not a Fallout 3.

Thanks for posting this. Aside from the semi-confirmation of the game taking place in U.S east coast Desslock did a good job in his column pointing out some of the things Bethesda better not screw up.

My biggest fear is the possibility the rights for Fallout fell into well intentioned but unfortunately incapable hands. The Elder Scrolls series was decent, but thinking of those developers doing a Fallout game worries me, as I'm sure it does to most of you. Hopefully they plan to listen to the community and stay true to the series as much as they can. This one's special and I really dont want to be dissapointed.

All bethesda need to do to make a great fallout 3 is:
1) Fire all their programmers.
2) Fire all their 3D and 2D artists.
3) Fire all their Managers, The CEO, The CFO and Marketers
4) File for Bankruptcy
5) Hire Irrational Games or [insert ex fallout 1-2 employee/group]to make it.

I can't wait!
