Fallout 3 "sounds mighty fine", says Yahoo

In yet another offering of most anticipated games of 2008, Fallout 3 has to settle for being one of ten titles in an unranked list.<blockquote>The Fallout name is revered among PC gamers, who associate it with a series of superb, old-school turn-based RPGs that still command a substantial fan following. Now the series is in new hands, and a new Fallout game is on the way - but even if you didn't play the first couple of games, there's still plenty about Fallout 3 to raise your pulse. How does a plot-driven adventure in a post-apocalyptic, Mad Max-style world sound? If it's in the hands of Bethesda, the studio behind the critically-acclaimed Oblivion series, it sounds mighty fine.</blockquote>Question is, if old-school turn-based RPGs are so superb, why isn't anyone making one?

Because they require a <S>dev-team</S> CEO/Executive Producer capable of thought and selflessness.

Also one that's not trying to cheap out by using over 70% of their old code from Oblivious and calling it Fallout 3...

That's another one for the 'called TES series the Oblivion series' box.
I don't get it. It can't be that hard to understand the difference between a series and a title in the series?

Only thing is, it isn't that.

Plot driven ? That's a trueism, isn't it. Every game is 'plot driven'. Some more then others. But even shooters are 'plot driven'.

Post apocalytic. That's true but
Mad Max-style. Hardly. The feeling that it will have will probably be more like Battlefield Earth then Mad Max.

Because that style of gameplay is old, out of date. Turn-based games do not have a place in the modern era of video gaming... Isn't that right Pete?

Man, you're dead on. Turn-based is sooooo out of date. Quake 2, man, that's the next generation of gaming. (Brought to you by Orwell's Doublespeak [tm])

Yay for historical revisionism.

Scratch "dev team", replace with CEO/ Executive Producer.

Can someone tell me what "mad max style" is? Are they referring to gameplay or environment?
Mad Max has an environment that is entirely desolate, not made up of destroyed structures.

Nothing should be described as Mad Max-style if it doesn't have car chases/battles. I don't remember hearing anything about FO3 having vehicles.

Yeah, obviously. Turn-based, isometric games are not imursive, inavative, next-gen, epic or [insert your own retarded buzzword here].

Well, I don't know. In my world (user support and web development) it is nearly impossible for the unwashed masses to figure out the difference between a software maker and a software title. Examples...

Adobe = Acrobat Reader and/or PDF format
Microsoft = Windows and/or Word

Of course, you would think that someone who is "expert" enough to give us a valuable opinion about upcoming gaming titles would be a little above the intelligence level of an unwashed mass wouldn't you?

Soon, when beth will run out of buzzwords they will probably use more retarded phrases, like "Gott mit uns". It has the same value as their other buzzwords.

"Essen sheißen und geld machen" will probably be Bethesda's new motto for the future.

All I know is, Fallout 3 has a <s>BFG</s> handheld nuke launcher, exploding cars, you can drink from toilets to recover health, and the mutants look like orcs wearing garbage can lids on their heads. FO3 is full of win.
