First time out of the vault
PROLOGUE

It never changes. The wastes that is… Seems like everything around you just gave up on life. Mother earth took its final blow and its heart stopped beating. My name is Jack… just Jack no last name and no legacy behind me. I was born in the New Reno alleys… my mom was a working girl, a Reno whore. She was murdered by a customer right there in front of me after he had his way with her. He let me live, sick bastard got off on me watching my mother die. I’ve been traveling these wastes for 3 years in search off nothing. I left Reno 3 years ago after realizing that there was nothing there for me. I guess I was kind of hoping I’d find something better. Don’t know how old I am or what year I was born. That kind of stuff just doesn’t hold any meaning in this world anymore. I know I’m younger then most judging by everyone’s crisp radioactive treated skin. I travel with my only companion that I picked up in the beginning of my travels. A half robot half wolf cybernetic dog, a Vault Tek prototype. I call him R.D. because of the faded sign on him “Robo-Dog a vaults best friend.” Apparently they were designed to explore the wastes in search of life and safe radiation levels. Never put into production… I guess the bombs came before testing was complete. I found him under a pile of ruble in a ghost town west of what used to be Broken Hills. His CPU was fried and non operational, but I was able to drag him up to Vault City were good ol' four eyes fixed him right up. Intelligent somuvabitch though, won’t shut the fuck up sometimes. Keeps me company with all that info downloaded into his mainframe. Dogs more freaking intelligent then me! But what can you except… it’s not like I got to go to school with all the other little kids and learn my ABC. I’m heading east now, past NCR territory and into the uncharted wastelands. Never met anyone that ever ventured that way, I guess maybe it’s not such a good idea to go there. I’m looking for something just don’t know what. This is my story…

THE BORDER

“RD what’s your Geiger Counter reading?”
“Radiation levels are minimal Jack, wind speeds are 17 mph. Temperature is 3…”
“I asked you for the Geiger not the fucking weather report! Thanks a lot Ron Burgundy!”
“Actually Jack, Ron Burgundy was not a weather man he was a news anchor that…”
“Yeah whatever Ron. Were the hell are we RD?”
“We are about 60 miles north of NCR outpost Border.”
Border is were NCR ends and hell begins. NCR has basically swallowed up every piece of land that is charted on the west coast. Border is just that, the old border. What used to be Mexico is now radioactive swamp and marsh. Most of it is submerged under radioactive water. You can’t cross it even if equipped with a MK5 Power Armor or an Environ-Suit. The water will melt metal, shit is a fucking mess. Are plans is to hit border and then head east. I’ve heard that adventure hunters frequently head east in groups. And I sure as hell am not trying to travel alone. No one really knows what’s east and why no one can ever say they have been there. Some say it’s filled with ghoul mutants who suck the marrow from your bones while you are still breathing; others speak of monsters standing 10 feet tall that suck your brains out. All bullshit probably, a bunch of fucking panzies who got too high on some jet and started imagining shit. Why I’m going there I don’t know? It seems like the thing to do though.

“Hey RD scan up ahead. What the fuck is going on up there all I can see is smoke.”
“I’m detecting many energy weapon signatures and high heat. It looks like a battle is going on Jack, I advise that we stay clear unti…”
“Shut up RD! Some times I think you’re a big pussy! Come one this is the perfect opportunity to stack up on weaponry, ammo, money, armor, or anything else that the unlucky dead ones drop.”
“Jack we know of only 3 factions that use energy weapons, Rangers, Brotherhood, and Enclave. Judging by my readouts it’s safe to say that the Enclave is attempting to gain control of Border. Do you honestly think it’s a good idea to go scavenger hunting?”
“Even better! Enclave always got the best shit, common!”
When that Vault Dweller guy blew up the old Enclave base an all out war erupted between the Brotherhood of Steel and the NCR Rangers against the Remaining Enclave Factions. They thought it was gonna be an easy fight but the Enclave are some powerful sobs. They have been causing hell trying to organize themselves again and build there ranks up. If you ask me that Vault Guy is a certified dumbass! He should have got with the Rangers and Brotherhood and took control of the tanker and all its technology. Then they wouldn’t have this mess right now. Use the Enclave tech against them. But noooo fucking the Last Action Hero over here wanted to blow everything up! Fuck him and his village, because of him I’m getting showered with plasma and rpgs!

“RD! Shit stay low, a laser hit to your CPU will fry you! Come drag that Enclave soldier into that RPG trench.”
When I looked back at RD I saw his metal body get flung into the air. An RPG hit a couple feet from him and the shockwave launched him.
“Stop dicking around RD! Get that corpse over here!”
We jumped into the trench listening to the mayhem above. Funny how I can just go about my life stripping a dead guy while a war wages above my head. I guess I have to be a sick bastard not to fazed by that.
“All in an honest day of work huh RD?”
“Jack I’m showing life signs under the power armor. The soldier is still alive. It seems he was hit in the power supply box on the back of his power suit.”
“So...”
“If you can pull another undamaged power supply of another suit of power armor this can be fixed. It would be a lot better for you on your travels then that metal clad your wearing.”
I hit the airlock clamps on the soldier’s helmet. Air hissed out of the armor as I pulled of the soldier’s helmet. He quickly started rambling off orders, “shit, drag the rest of this armor off of me! Then you will follow me to my squad. Perhaps I will spare your life if you…”
BLAM!
“Was that necessary Jack?”
“What?”
I put my magnum back in its holster. I guess having RD blabbing to me with his suggestions all the time is enough for me. Don’t need some Enclave scum telling me what to do. I quickly unhooked the remaining airlocks off the suit and removed the headless carcass of the soldier. As the war continued atop me and RD work on repairing the power supply box on the suit that RD retreated off another fallen Enclave soldier. After about an hour of working in mayhem the armor looked complete.
“RD why is this piece of shit not working?”
“No idea Jack we would have to hook it up and run a diagnostic.”
“And were the hell can we do that?”
“Well Vault City has tech that can do that…”
“Well were no in Vault City are we now!”
I heard vertibirds in the air and loud cheers erupting above the trench. I guess NCR was able to thwart the Enclave assault because they were pulling back. Even thought the brotherhood now to possessed the vertibird tech they did not have a means to mass produce it and therefore the Enclave still held an advantage there. NCR was slowly beginning production of vertibirds out side of San Francisco but that came to a halt with an assault from the Enclave. Like I’ve said before that Vault Fuck is a moron. If the NCR and the Brotherhood controlled the oil rig right now this war would be going in a different direction.
“Common RD let’s go find someone who can run the diagnostic for us.”

Fallout 2 endings make no mention of regrouping Enclave forces. No organization ever had or will ever have the resources to mass-produce Vertibirds. Maybe assemble one or two by hand, but mass-produce? Never. Ron Burgundy is a '70s character, not '50s. New Reno? That city needs to be wiped out, levelled and never spoken of again.

So yeah, burn it.

New Reno always remebered me of my childhood... :D

Dead people. Gangs. Drugs.

I like New Reno.

I like Reno. It's something I could see in destroyed world. People will the rope together? HAH! Mayhem and bloodshed. Yup, that's the focking future.

Well as for the story. The prologue was too fast. Let the image live a little.

I just wrote this up at work one day because I was so bored. Wanted to see if I should finish the story or if it's worthless. I'm not much of a writer I just like imagining things. But anyways I guess I’ll just scrap it

considering both Fo 1&2 were based on 50's pop culture, "Shit stay low" is not appropriate to the setting. Really.

Hey, don't let us stop you. If you enjoy to write and think this stuff up go right ahead and do it. Practice makes perfect they say*.

*awaits certain cynical and sarcastic remarks

Needs a whole lot of polishing (and englishing, for that matter), and certainly the RD is "reading" or "getting" signs of life, not "showing" ;)

Ok I re-wrote my prologue... Let me know if this is still only good enough to be used as trash can fire fuel in the Den! :D

PROLOGUE

It never changes. The wastes that is… Seems like everything around you just gave up on life… gave up on trying. Mother earth took its final blow and its heart stopped beating. I guess I was kind of hoping I’d find something better, but as time passes I gave up on that to. Don’t know how old I am or what year I was born. That kind of stuff just doesn’t hold any meaning in this world anymore. I know I’m younger then most judging by everyone’s crisp radioactive treated skin. His CPU was fried and non operational, but I was able to drag him up to Vault City were good ol' four eyes fixed him right up. Pretty useful in the wastes, came fully equipped with Pip-Boy 2000, Geiger Counter, Motion Sensors, and some sharp teeth . Intelligent somuvabitch won’t shut the fuck up sometimes. Keeps me company with all that info downloaded into his mainframe. Dogs more freaking intelligent then me! But what can you except… it’s not like I got to go to school with all the other little kids and learn my ABC.

There is a war raging now. And no, this is not something were the NCR Rangers are waging a campaign against the slavers… No, this is almost like all hell broke loose in hell, as of these wastes are having there own Great War. Bombs would probably have dropped again if it wasn’t for the fact that they were all used to create the paradise in which we struggle to survive in now. With the destruction of the Enclave Oil Rig, the main base of all there operations, a major blow was struck. But the Enclave is a foe not willing to disappear into the wastes. They have been ferociously restructuring themselves and rebuilding there diminishing ranks. What unknown outposts they had east of the NCR Republic have become the new operating bases and training facilities for there army. They have a new agenda now. No more are they planning to wipe out every living form of life and start from scratch. That goal was stopped by a man know as the Vault Dweller in the wastes. There one and only objective now is to topple the Brotherhood of Steel and the NCR Republic and again resume there place as the controlling hand in the waste of California. Even though there army is much smaller then the force of the Brotherhood and the NCR, there technology and firepower is unmatched. There army is still by far the most advanced equipped force in these wastes. Even though the Brotherhood and NCR have technologically advanced weapons they are few and not enough to supply there army with. Thus there great numbers are still unmatched to the Enclave’s superior energy and heavy weaponry.

We are heading to the last inhabitable wasteland in the south. A small military outpost used by the Brotherhood and NCR called Border. Word is that the two organizations are recruiting men who are trained and already equipped for battle. Supposedly top dollar is to be paid for these experienced mercenaries. I guess will see what kind of price me and RD can fetch… and who knows, maybe I’ll find some kind of meaning there…
